Number 5 of the Top 12 Countdown of 2020 - Infinity Train: "The Wasteland"

Seven spots in the Top 12 Countdown out of the way, only five more to go with only a few days left until we bid adieu to 2020 and saying hello to 2021. And coming in with the number five spot in the Top 12 Countdown is a show that really deserves the public’s attention when it comes to...well...viewership. I mean really folks, go watch it, it’s a really good show that needs y’all’s support. And because this year has two seasons aired, we’re diving into the show’s second season that aired back in January. Most importantly, one of the episodes that aired back in that month in the number five in the countdown in Infinity Train with “The Wasteland”.

Before doing that, let’s do a little background telling where we are in the episode and making it to the countdown at the number five spot. Most importantly, around the character of Mirror Tulip, or M.T., or now called Lake later on in the season around the end. In the episode “The Chrome Car” in Season 1, we were introduced to the mirror version of the show’s protagonist at the time, Tulip Olsen, where the mirror version wants her own freedom although the silver police won’t let that happened. Spoiler alert, the mirror version of Tulip is now out of Tulip’s hair, thanks to her, with Tulip now living the full life after the train with no reflection with her mirror self now roaming around the train and also on the run. Thus, season 2 comes in where we were introduced to that season’s...I guess the co-protagonist in Jesse Cosay and the animal companion known as Alan Dracula. Helping Jesse getting his number down and at the same time, go on the run from two chrome policemen, Sieve and Mace, and thus leading to where we are in the previous episode, “The Mall Car”, where we met Grace and Simon and trying to convince Jesse to say over and have his number to go up but Jesse, thanks to Mirror Tulip (Lake), have the number going down to zero and was to take her with him back to his home but...only Jesse can make it out because he’s a passenger and Mirror Tulip (Lake) is not.

Thus, to where we are now to begin the episode with Lake now surrounded by the two cops while the Apex, lead by Grace and Simon, retreat back to their hideout. Leaving Mirror Tulip (Lake) to deal with the two cops, however, things take a turn with the handcuffs upon leaving the train, thus having both Lake and Mace handcuffed to prevent her from going forward in the chase but also falling off from the train and landing themselves to the ground of the what the episode title is called, the wasteland. Though not the first time we had a visit there, because the first episode of the series with Tulip accidentally got off the train, only to head back up. Yeah.

The rest of the episode is pretty much both Lake and Mace locked with handcuffs in the wasteland and need to head back to the train, though working together is going to be somewhat of a challenge. Mostly because...well...Lake is pretty much the most wanted criminal, just because she left Tulip’s side as her reflection, and let’s face it, you seen movies where both the cop and the criminal have to work together to get out of a sticky situation just as this one with this episode trying to get back to the train and not trying to get in the way of the gnom. You know, those roach-like beings that can pretty much drain someone’s soul no matter what number you have on the palm of your hand. I mean it did almost got Tulip...twice, so the fact that Lake, Mace, and Alan Dracula had to make their way back to the train...yeah, so I guess gnoms are not only known for attacking passengers on the train, but it can be any organism on the train outside each of the car. Nothing else but them trying to head back to the car and not to mention, have Lake to form a tiny alliance with Mace if they want to get out of the wasteland and get back to the train and they did, forgot the part where Mace is shown not having any legs since being forced out of the train.

And you’re probably thinking right now, how come any episode of Season 2 or throw in an episode from Season 3 would’ve made the cut in the countdown? How come you brought it this episode if you say that it’s simple? Well, you may be right. The other contender when it comes to the season that would’ve made on the list is the last two episodes of the season because of lore and such. But there is a reason and the only reason why this episode made it to the top of the list and on number five no less? Well...the reason why this episode made it on the list may have come to a certain moment at the end of the episode and it’s best to tell it right about...now.

Lake and Mace made a small alliance to get back to the train, which they did but of course, the doublecross was bound to happen once they made it back with Mace coming in for the kill thanks in part to Lake losing her guard but apparently, that doesn’t work and this is where the scene comes in and why it got the number five spot in the countdown. Trying to get away from Mace, Lake swings around with the cable like the Sia song “Chandelier” plays in the background and towards the wheel of the moving train and…

Straights up murder the guy in cold blood to close out the episode. Sure, it was off-screen and yes, it’s two silver people with one silver getting the ax in the hands of the other but...holy shit. That happened. Despite being somewhat off-screen, we just witnessed a murder and that was back on Cartoon Network back in January. It’s surprising that this made it past the censors and this is coming from the show that last season, being Season 1, have the conductor, i.e. Amelia, took down Atticus and turned him into a gnom. But this concerned a living being, of course, a null but still. A surprise murder with no regrets mind you and that made it past the censors. And I gotta say...that was shocking. But it was also something for the writers, mostly Owen Dennis, to have the balls to have a murder on the show, even if it’s off-screen. Though that was Season 2. Season 3 on the other hand...oh boy, yeah, a certain someone’s death to one-up what we just witnessed is on the list.

So yeah, “The Wasteland” from Infinity Train captured the number five spot in the Top 12 Countdown of 2020. And mostly because of that scene in the final minutes of the episode with Lake taking out Mace in cold blood with the moving wheel of the train upon getting back from the wastelands. That’s obviously why the episode has landed the spot way far down in the countdown and at number five of all spots. Other than that, it’s a simple episode. I mean, it’s alright, and did explore more of the wasteland that was shown most times outside of the train. See, we’re worldbuilding here when it comes to this. But other than that, the scene of the final minutes of the episode is what sold it to me enough to have the episode to fall to the number five spot in the Top 12 Countdown of 2020. And also, go watch the show. It needs the support it can get now that it’s on a streaming platform like HBO Max, so please! Please! Give the show a shot and help out for once!
