The list continues onto our Number 19 spot in the Top 20 Countdown for the year 2018 and this one is not so surprising to anyone one of y’all who read the Number 20 post yesterday when it comes to one of the episodes that I reviewed during the revival stages of the reviews. And it is this one. Yes, the Season 9 premiere of Bob’s Burgers has taken the Nineteenth spot in the Top 20 Countdown of 2018, highlighting Tina’s quest to find a boy that she just met, only to end up facing in the toughest “Try Not to Fall in Love” challenge and boy, she failed badly in Number 19 of the Top 20 Countdown, “Just One of the Boyz 4 Now for Now”.
So, the 150th episode of Bob’s Burgers, we meet once again now in the form of the Top 20 Countdown. This time around, I will only talk about the main plot of the episode because…one, it’s my list. And two, the subplot, if you haven’t checked out that review of that episode back in October, yeah…it was a glorified mess of a subplot that seems pretty much going nowhere to be honest here with the Belchers helping Teddy out taking care of a newborn baby rat and must hide it from Hugo to ever finding out. So I’m not gonna talk about that again. No sir or madam or whatever.
This episode is mostly centered around Tina and of course, like almost every episode, it has to include a random boy that appears out of nowhere, to be a one-shot and probably never to return, and the boy this time around is a guy named Damon (voiced by Josh Gad of Frozen fame) when he was rushing his way to the upcoming Boyz 4 Now auditions to replace Boo Boo, who back in Season 6, departed from the group to launch a solo career. And Tina following that little meetup, napkins all over the ground, like…same with her sight on Joe, that boy that Tina’s fallen head over heels back in Season 7 while sharping her pencil over at detention, enter fantasy land we go.
And the Belcher family of course, noting that Tina’s going boy crazy and somewhat calling her out when mentioning Damon and that this isn’t the first time Tina went full on “love at first, fall into la la land and sing about it”, because we were shown every boy that she met, it’s the same thing. Going full on boy crazy. And we seen her going all lovey dovey when it comes to Tina to the past boys in her life and here’s a full list of the said boys of the past…
Wow, wow, wow…that’s a pretty long list. And it looks like that list is gonna expand as the series progresses. Fuck, all the way to the upcoming movie in 2020. We have a reverse harem, people. We have ourselves a reverse harem for Tina. And the Boyz 4 Now auditions is her perfect chance to find Damon and hook up, but Bob decided to not let her head over to the audition, mostly because one, it’s boys only. If she were to get in, then she’ll be deemed as a fangirl and may end up being in the wrong crowd. And two, of course, work…that is until Bob decided to tell Tina to have a go and head over to the audition. And of course, since the audition is boys only, she needs to go as a guy. So say if, unless you’re really new to this, Tina, in the beginning, in the pilot version of the first episode of the series, was supposed to be guy at first mostly because of her voice actor, but of course, in order for the show to be on the air, there have to be some changes and thus, Tina was born.
If you think that finding Damon over at the auditions, dressing up as a guy, would be a total cakewalk. Nope, once entering the room, see a sea full of boy trying out for that missing spot for the band. And oh boy, Tina is gonna have a major tough time to find Damon and try not to fall in love with any other boy along the way. And boy, she is trying her damned best to try not to fall into the temptation.
Bumped into three people. Three boys in her way from getting to Damon. Fallen into fantasy land. Let’s not forget that despite that this is the show’s 150th episode, it ain’t a special occasion…without musical numbers. Five to be exact. Five numbers. From Tina’s first meeting with Damon to the end credits that includes a lot of boys from past to present, it was a musical filled episode. Now we await how the 200th episode is gonna play out. “The Bleakening” hold the record number at seven. The movie however in 2020, is gonna break that record. But it’s not just a musical filled number when it comes to Tina’s first sight at any random boy, it was a star studded one as well. Some actors from the Broadway musical category also played a part of the episode as well. Gad, of course, known him as Olaf from the Frozen films, he was from Broadway fame. But you have four other boys in play that had Broadway stars as their voices from both Rory O’Malley and Andrew Rannells of The Book of Mormon and of course, Daveed Diggs from Hamilton fame. Which, that fantasy from his character and Tina…the rap sold me. Never been to a musical. Hoping to see Hamilton, not because of that, but me being a history buff. But of course, Tina can’t fall into temptation and must head to towards Damon is at.
In which she did. Asking him that, “Hey Damon, remember me? The girl that you bumped into? Yeah…so, I was trying to find you and maybe asking that once you’re done with this, maybe…I don’t know? Hook up? Grab something to eat?” And it looks like Tina has finally done her job of finding his dream guy of the week after being around a lot of boys and fell into temptation and it looks like Tina might get her way after all. Only a brick wall can stop you, it’s another boy. In the form of Damon’s best friend and that’s where we ended up to another fantasy into the depths of space, in the space station, two friends fighting over Tina and…you already know what happens next at the end of the fantasy. Of course, Tina got rid of her disguise and just like with the review, the girl tried to shoot the ball into the goal and she fumbled. Five yard penalty, first down. Do not pass go. Don’t collect $200 at the start. And gets caught be security.
And then we get to the whole ending to see who’s the lucky person to be in Boyz 4 Now. But before that, we have the family at the Security Office preparing to pick her up when Tina tells them that whole shebang fell apart and that she failed to prove them wrong that she can’t fall in love with every other guy in her way to see Damon and proving their point to be correct when it comes to the idea of Tina being boy crazy. But of course, knowing the Belcher family, gotta accept the fact that Tina is boy crazy and she can’t handling it, but it’s fine. There’s no problem with. She wants to be boy crazy, then have at it. Also, that line from Linda…oh boy, that redemption episode later in the season…that’s probably gonna get Linda to chew her own words. And then we get to the ending when we find out the person who’s gonna replace Boo Boo in the position in the band and it’s…
Boo Boo. Yep, Boo Boo. Making his return to the band since his departure back in Season 6. And of course, when I reviewed this episode back in September into October, Boo Boo returning to the band was no surprise to see. Mostly because I felt kind of cheated when looking over at the Wikia when Boo Boo’s voice actor, Max Greenfield, was in the episode. Like it sorta like killed the suspense and the surprise. And like I said back in the episode review that this should’ve like kept it confidential about Boo Boo’s return. I mean, they sort of did with the guys in the duration of the episode and figuring out who’s gonna take up that role. And there’s some saying that all signs might be pointing towards Damon being the next one to take up the role. But no, it’s Boo Boo. And the whole thing seems now like a potential waste of time.
But I’m not shitting on the ending credits of the episode with Tina and her last fantasy of the episode showing the members of Boyz 4 Now because we gotta treat it like a music video. Then add the boys from this very episode and of course, the guys from the past experience like Jimmy Jr, Josh, Nathan, Jonas, Brett, Duncan, Jordan, forgot that one guy name from “Boywatch” but he’s in it, and of course, since the holiday episodes are canon since Bouchard said it, Jeff from “Tina and the Real Ghost”, a Halloween episode. And of course, Darryl. And that was the Valentine’s episode from 2015 when both him and Tina pretended to go out in order to win the Valentine’s contest in hopes to get their crushes, Rosa Batista for Darryl and Jimmy Jr for Tina. But Darryl’s song at the dance pretty much got Tina to fall for him. Ruined that moment that both Rosa and Darryl and Tina had to fix it. Go watch the episode. Go watch the episode. The point is the ending pretty much sums up that Tina is polyamorous. And the clues were out there when it comes to the conclusion whether it’s trying to create a three-way relationship with both Jimmy Jr and Josh or a hoard of zombie boys in her story in “The Frond Files”, it was out there. I had been rewatching the series before this episode, thanks Adult Swim for that, it was a good credit gag to what appears to be a very good main plot, if not, good episode up until the end with Boo Boo’s return to the band sort of killed the surprise.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure nothing else happened in this episode. No way in hell I’m gonna talk about that. Pretend that garbage heap of a subplot never existed so we can wrap up this section of the list.
Okay, episode, nineteenth spot in the list, why? Well, to be fair, this was a good episode to kick off the new season, which is of course, the current season that we’re in and it looks like there some episodes from this season and one from the previous has made it on the list but you’re gonna have to wait.
Like I said in the review back earlier this year, the writers are like shooting hoops into this one when it comes to anything mix into the episode from the acting to the visuals, the audio, the writing, everything seems to be going well…up until the ending with Boo Boo’s sudden but not so surprising return to the band.
This was Tina’s hardest test on proving her family wrong when it comes to her finding trying to find Damon in the audition without falling in love with any other guy in line for the auditions. Of course, that failed the first time she sees the first boy in line. But not falling into temptation and everything was going well for her until someone spotted her from the background following Tina removing her wig of the disguise and man, the girl freaking fumbled over that. And that was over telling her why she’s doing this and the reason she’s been going at to reach the lengths to going towards Damon.
The musical numbers that we have pretty much saves the episode. The subplot of the episode pretty much downplays the episode but with the musical numbers that we have to blend in to Tina’s trial of not falling into temptation of falling in love with another guy and with the star studded cast from the Broadway department, yeah…I like the musical numbers that we had. Mostly on the Daveed Diggs one. Don’t judge me.
And the same goes for the credits with Tina’s “The Right Number of Boys is More” piece, perfect way to wrap up the episode and of course, saves it from the ending from falling flat following Boo Boo’s return to the band, which of course, kept on repeating and this is gonna be the last time I’m gonna bring this one up, stay in secrecy with the whole Boo Boo making his return with the cast with Max Greenfield making a return. And this is NOT me shitting on him. He’s an incredible actor and did an amazing job voicing the youngest member of the band, but…kinda wish that should’ve kept that in secrecy so that that audience would like keep things in suspense. Have people playing the guessing game until the end for the big surprise. And of course, that’s for the people who haven’t looked at the Wikia, but to add insult to injury, secrecy would’ve help for those people. There’s some that had the whole shock and awe with that. But all and all, this was a good episode. And despite that the ending with Boo Boo returning somewhat downplay the whole thing, the episode wasn’t that bad. It was good, if you delete the subplot then maybe so, the ending would still be there, just…don’t go on the Internet and look up like weeks before the episode is out. Let that be a life lesson boys and girls.
