Fandom Update: Doctor Who Series 13, Great North Season 2, Bob's Burgers Season 12 Comic-Con News

Day 3 of Comic-Con at Home weekend has come and went, and with that, so wraps up the 2021 Comic-Con weekend at home and unless the Delta variant of the coronavirus decided to fuck up our 2022 plans because of the unvaccinated falling for clickbait coming from Facebook, the convention is heading back to in-person in San Diego and so continues another year of not able to head over there to see it live...mostly because of cost with travel and hotels and also a pass. It can be nerve-wracking going back and forth for the three days in a single weekend. So let’s get down to the recap because it looks like we got three shows to cover in one single post and we begin...with Doctor Who.

So besides the so-called off-season turmoil coming from the show whether if its rumors speculating that Jodie Whittaker might be planning on departing from the show to veteran actors like Noel Clarke being accused of sexual misconduct, which resulted in John Barrowman being thrown under the bus by Clarke to possibly save his skin, which resulted in his role in one of the Big Finish audios to cut. And y’all thought the ongoing drama in the front office of the Green Bay Packers was exhausting? Guess we may have some competition going on with the show that I’ll be talking about later on in the post, but for now, Doctor Who...first time since...well, the start of the pandemic that they have the Comic-Con limelight, and here we are with Chris Chibnall, Jodie Whittaker, Mandip Gill, and new to the show John Bishop.

But of course, the trailer has to be the highlight coming from the panel. Well...more of a teaser than a trailer but that’s probably enough for Whovians to have their chance to what to expect for the new season. Of course, no date was revealed but at least the waiting time has somewhat been shorter because it is revealed that Series 13 will be on the airwaves later this year. Most likely in the Fall, either in the September or October timeframe. Just be thankful that it’s not on New Year’s much like with the past three episodes that aired on that day. Someone should probably fix that.

We all know when it comes to what to expect for the new season is that we’ll be meeting the new character, Dan Lewis, who will be portrayed by comedian John Bishop. Of course, we all knew that when that little teaser was dropped following the airing of “Revolution of the Daleks” and revealing the name of his character, the profession, and where is he from. And that was after both Tosin Cole and Bradley Walsh decided to call it a scene in playing the roles of Ryan and Graham. So Dan would be something to look over once the new season drops sometime in the Fall. But it looks like Dan won’t be the only newcomer who will be in the limelight from the fans in the ol’ development department.

That title goes with the character of Vinder, who will be portrayed by Game of Thrones star Jacob Anderson. Rocking the dreadlocks and looking like a bounty hunter coming from a space western. He too will be under the limelight though that depending on which position he’ll be in when it comes to the new season? He is a new companion? An ally? An old friend that somehow we didn’t even know? An antagonist? Who knows? There’s a lot to talk about regarding Vinder.

Though when you think about it when watching through the panel from start to finish, giving away the hint of someone held from Game of Thrones, you’d probably think that it’s Maisie Williams making a comeback and reprising her role as Ashildr/Me, but that’s not the case. And last time we saw her was with Clara at the end of Series 9 flying in her own TARDIS. But no, Williams ain’t coming back. It’ll be Jacob Anderson and we’ll see how his character will be played out in the new season.

Other than that, nothing else to talk about other than the new images showing The Doctor, Yaz, and Dan in one image. And the next one with Vinder rocking the pose. How filming was like during the pandemic like with every other live-action shows in the past year, going through testing and safety protocol to make sure nothing can fuck up the filming process. Series 13 taking a different route as it appears that it’s going to be one big arc, unlike the previous seasons where you have some episodes adding some stuff into the canon of the story with the rest dealing with random ideas when traveling through space and time, whether past or future. So will that work out once Series 13 premieres later this year? Only time will tell.

Onto The Great North in their first Comic-Con appearance, of course, it has to be virtual, following a dominating performance of a first season. Already talked about the show two times here on the page from the first thoughts article back in January following the airing of “Sexi Moose Adventure” to the revisiting piece back in April during the Easter break, guess we might as well talk about it once again with the show’s second season now on the horizon. And...there’s little to no content to talk about, much a grin to yesterday’s panels with both The Owl House and Central Park. At least with Central Park, you have the cast and crew warning everyone that this was pre-recorded prior to the airing of their second season. All of it is mostly on the cast and crew doing the work on the show during the pandemic. During the lockdowns and stuff. Oh yeah, and the video was cut short so some reason. Either a mistake at their end or...well, things? Hopefully, this gets cleared up before the posting of the article.

But at least we got a sneak preview for the upcoming Halloween episode for the show’s second season now that the series will be premiering in the Fall, meaning holiday episodes with the upcoming Halloween episode airing in October (unless the MLB decided to fuck that up, come on FOX! Learn your lesson for once?!) showing Judy talking about the Alaskan nights can messes a person up...so...Judy. I mean, it is Alaska. It’s by the North Pole. You’re in a part of the world where you have to rely on the summer solstice to get more daylight than having a loss of daylight for almost every day. Pretty much the equivalent to what a day in quarantine is like in the past year, questioning if it’s either day or night or whatever the day is today? You also have Wolf telling the short that may or may not be a tall tale since it is Halloween regarding the “Lumber Zombie”, where a lumber company decided to play God in turning someone into a monster that can work in the overnight hours to speed up production...only for that experiment to go horribly, horribly wrong. More on that, the scene I mean, once the Halloween episode airs in October with the second season of the show airs in the Fall. (Also, another update is that we got a clip from the extended version from the Animation Domination page on YouTube and it has the clip from what appears to be the season premiere with Judy singing about her day, meaning that we may have a musical episode ready to take place to start off the second season)

And we got an update because the panel mysteriously cut off to the point where the fans now beginning to think that FOX could be ready to create damage control with the show as a conspiracy theory. This is a tweet coming from one of the show’s creators, Wendy Molyneux, that they were supposed to show a scene from the season premiere that is set to air in September. As well as naming guests for not just this upcoming season, but also Season 3 as well. Whom to which include stars like Patti LuPone, Pam Grier, and the mayor of Flavortown himself, Guy Fieri (correction, meant to say Season 2).

And then finally...the moment y’all been waiting for from this whole weekend...my try and true...we talking Bob’s Burgers. And boy, last season...yikes. Mostly coming from the second half of the season and mostly 2021 so far ever since winning the Battle of the Week Voting Tournament back in December of 2020. From the show’s eleventh season choking away the high grade more than the Phoenix Suns blowing a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals. Losing your lead designer in a horrific sky diving accident at the start of the year. Having your Valentine’s episode be pre-empted numerous times from the NFL playoffs getting in the way to Daytona experiencing a rain delay to the point where it has to be pushed to a later week, a week after Valentine’s Day, while Canada gets it weeks in advance without warning. Having the worst episode to air in that exact season. Two of your actors decided to be total fucking dumbasses which one of them happened to be some sort of womanizer while the other thinks that it’s a good fucking idea to storm a federal building in trying to make sure a certain sore loser gets back into power. Oh yeah, and also the movie being pulled from its April 9 date to purgatory. What kind of monkey paw shit are we dealing with right now in the burger fandom? What the fuck?!

So Bob’s Burgers showcased their panel to close out Comic-Con weekend with news and information on what’s about to come for the upcoming season set to air in September...or possibly October, fingers crossed on the September date since that is usually the start date for the new season. So who knows. I mean, I got the countdown graphic ready...sorta, but I guess we have to wait and see. We did have episode titles coming out for the upcoming season and boy, that was a hassle to type down when doing the notes for this article when it comes to the episode titles because Bouchard did say it way too fast like it was an auction site or listening to the fast verse in “Rap God” by Eminem.

So the episodes go in order coming from Bouchard said as follow: “Crystal Mess”, “The Pumpkining”, “Driving Big Dummy”, “Seven-tween Again”, “Stuck in the Christmas with You”, “Gene’s Christmas Break”, “Loft in Bed-slation”, “FOMO You Didn’t”, “Touch of Evaluations”, “Video Killed the Gene-eo Star”, “Frigate Me Not”, “Ferry On My Wayward Bob and Linda”, “Ancient Misbehavin’”, “The Spider House Rules”, “Clear and Present Ginger”, and “A-Sprout Boy”.

And also we have the guest list include Stephanie Beatriz, Ashely Nicole Black, Joe Kim Booster, Sarah Baker, Doug Benson, John Early, Zach Galifianakis, Kevin Kline, Gary Cole, David Wain, John Michael Higgins, Tim Meadows, Ron Funches, Dana Synder, Robin Theade, Kevin Avery, Nick Kroll, Will Forte, Tymberlee Hill, the Silverman Sisters, Steve Agee, Kulap Vilayasack, Joe Lo Truglio, Maya Erskine, Molly Shannon, Jessica St. Clair, Jillian Bell, Wyatt Cenac, and Todd Barry...Jesus Christ, that was a mouthful to list out the names. At least we know who is who might be making a comeback. Beatriz being the voice of Chloe Barbash, John Early possibly reprising his role as Dalton. Either that or another character. Galifinakis, Kline, we got the Fischoeder brothers. Shannon being Millie. Looks like Kaylee will be back for the new season with Erskine returning. Wain, Higgins, looks like we getting both Courtney and Doug coming back. Meadows of course as Mike the Mailman. It’s an endless list to talk about.

Of course, we have three clips from the show for the upcoming episodes. One being a full-colored clip and the two being animatics with the colored one being Linda and Bob having an unexpected delivery of a dog plant, in which Linda thinks of a dog that she saw...getting run over. Yeah...not a good childhood experience, huh Linda? More on that for once the episode airs later in the season, hopefully, later in the year in...apparently it’s called “Maniac Pixie Crap Show”? I think that’s the title of that episode. The second and third clips showcase a pair of animatics with one of the episodes that were mentioned, “Driving Big Dummy”, shows Bob and Teddy going on a road trip to transport a giant baby head to another town in what appears to be a very long car ride...especially since you have Teddy as the driver. And then the third and final clip which has Gene in panic mode over her first chest hair, showing signs that he is growing up. And according to Loren, coming from the mind of Rich Rinaldi, all-out focuses on Gene’s fear of growing up and not wanting to accept some changes. Not in the likes of last season where Gene was left home alone which resulted in him being locked inside the basement and have Ken, his imaginary friend that he talked to throughout the episode end up leaving him. So it’ll be an interesting concept for a show that doesn’t usually age its characters.

For anyone who was hoping for when we finally get a date for the movie that was supposed to be released last year on July 17, only to be pushed for this year on April 9, now stuck in purgatory because I think we’re nowhere near the status of “normal”, even if movie theaters are slowly reopening. Though it won’t be long now until we get some stuff coming out from the wazoo being teasers, trailers, snippets, posters, all that stuff. Hopefully around the Fall months is when we finally get our answer...maybe. Keyword “maybe”. We have to wait and see when it’s going to be dropped as one big waiting game to the point where the betting markets in Vegas would now have to make betting props on when the movie is going to be dropped. I heard World Series is the most likely target that the betters are calling for. I know that Loren is really optimistic about the theatrical release, and everyone wants it too...it’s just...it’s going to take a while for that and with the Delta variant of COVID-19 decided to become the dominant variant as cases rise, God forbid if we go back to square one to the days of the start of the pandemic. Get vaccinated, you fuckers. It’s not that freaking fracking hard!

And of course, we close things off with the upcoming second album from the show. The album will cover songs from Seasons 7-9 since the first cover the first six seasons of the show. The album is set for release on August 20 and much like with the first album, it’s coming in the form of a vinyl album. Like the type of media you see in audio recorders that you can find at a pawn shop or your grandmother’s home. Comes with stuff much like with the first album. And if you can’t afford it...at least there’s Spotify. Though without the extra stuff. You might as well just pre-order right away for once August 20 arrives, be on the lookout for that package that contains the album. And also survival supplies since it is still hurricane season.

But other than the news on the album, the episodes, and the movie, I guess that’s pretty much for the recap for Day 3 of Comic-Con at Home. The weekend is finally over. And so does the virtual panels...can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m gonna miss all of this. Mostly because the virtual panels on YouTube feel like you’re at the convention, even if you have never been to one. And I guess you could probably say that’s pretty much the pandemic talking...which it is, now shut up. Follow me over at Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram for updates and behind-the-scenes stuff along with other things I posted. As well as keeping on tabs for when the first press release for Bob’s Burgers is being dropped come mid-to-late August. And if you haven’t already done it...

Donate today over at PayPal, Patreon, and Ko-fi pages for helping your boy out in both improving the page and also paying the bills to keep the lights on to at least entertain you, fine people. And until...the Fall I guess, wear a mask, wash your hands, get vaccinated, and I’ll see y’all later.
