The Countdown Continues. Number 18: Boruto: “Father and Child” ボルト | yahoo201027's Top 20 Countdown of 2018

The first Anime series that made it to the list in the Top 20 Countdown for the year 2018 and of course I can’t just leave it there out of the open without a proper say about this one being the episode that somehow exceed every expectations when it comes to the visuals on the retelling of the Boruto movie back in 2015. Coming in Number 18 in the Top 20 Countdown of 2018 is Episode 65 of the Boruto Anime, “Father and Child”. AKA the final nail to the coffin when it comes to taking a massive shit on the movie and whether it’s either canon or not.

Um…wow. If there’s something to say about Episode 65 of the Boruto Anime…the Animation department wasn’t holding anything back. I mean yeah, same events that was played out from the Boruto movie back in 2015, especially with the whole events from this episode with the battle between Momoshiki and both Naruto and Sasuke and of course, Boruto delivering that final blow to Momoshiki, which is of course, the two main highlights of the episode that will be talked about because…wow…the animation department pretty much did an amazing job handling the battle to wrap up the re-adaptation of the movie.

Let’s talk about the first highlight of the episode being the fight between both Naruto and Sasuke and Momoshiki. The Naruto series never failed to amaze me when it comes to things like fights and story progression and all of that. I like how the animation played out with this first fight of the episode. It’s mostly them showcasing to the viewers that don’t count them out. Even if the series now have Boruto in the spotlight since…it’s his series, don’t count Naruto and Sasuke out. And how the animation and the choreography was handled in this episode…wow. This was handled beautifully. It’s like…not saying in the form of the final fight between Naruto and Sasuke back in Shippuden, but…almost in the form of that. First time around following the other four Kage, Gaara, Chojuro, Darui, and Kurotsuchi, getting their asses handed, both Naruto and Sasuke looks like they’re getting their asses handed by Momoshiki. But then comes the second time around, getting up after that little beat up, is where things are about to get crispy.

From both sides, despite that Momoshiki blocked their attacks, it looks like things are about to go 0 to 100 real quick in like a millisecond. From Momoshiki trying to deflect the punches from both Naruto and Sasuke to Sasuke, out of nowhere, threw his sword towards Momoshiki with his legs, only to end up being deflected. Naruto trying to land a punch on the guy, then enter Sasuke, kicking him away from him. And then we get to Momoshiki using the weapon, using them against Naruto and Sasuke. Only to get sent flying on top of a giant ass stump where the battle continues. The choreography…holy shit, that was handled perfectly. But it looks like the fun doesn’t stop there.

With Sasuke summoning a demon wind shuriken and Naruto about to use shadow clone jutsu, it looks like they’re about to use the technique, the same technique that was used during the first fight against Zabuza back in Part 1 with Sasuke throwing the shuriken with Naruto being the shuriken in a surprise attack to free Kakashi from the water prison by Zabuza. But it looks like things are about to take a massive twist with that technique. Sasuke throwing the shuriken, Momoshiki deflecting it. But Sasuke pulls the strings, raining down a hoard of shuriken, don’t know what’s the plural term of a group of shuriken, but all I know is that shuriken rained down by Sasuke. Thought Momoshiki is out of the clear. Then enter Naruto coming from the ground and into the air. Throwing in the Rasen Shuriken. And because it’s chakra, Momoshiki was about to absorb it because it’s charka and he can absorb it from his palm. But nope.

Sasuke. About to deliver the blow, but Momoshiki traps him in chains. But again, don’t count him out as he used his Rinnegan eye and switch positions with Momoshiki now being the one in chains and Naruto…Naruto, holy fuck, one punch, one massive punch to send Momoshiki flying and wrapping the battle up with Sasuke using Planetary Devastation to trap him and sending him to his defeat. It was glorious. How the battle was executed from start to finish…it was glorious. But it looks like the battle ain’t done yet as Momoshiki releases a wooden dragon and was about to strike Sasuke, but then Naruto comes in and breaks it into pieces. Sending in more, almost seems like Sasuke is done for but of course, Naurto…coming in to save the day with Kurama.

Now forming the Gollum for Momoshiki, battling with Naruto. Trouble now seems towards Naruto’s direction until Sasuke comes in and using Susano’o as armor to take the giant ass Gollum and…

Holy…shit. I…I have no words to say about that but…wow. Just…wow. Animation, beautiful. Execution…perfect. Naruto and Sasuke hammers the floor with Momoshiki from start to finish and it was goddamn beautiful to watch over. Like…props to the animation department for making it a hyped up battle even though sometimes, hype kills. But this one exceeds all expectations and…again, no words how to say this but to say, wow. But it looks like according to Naruto, the battle ain’t over just yet. And they have to find a way to deliver the finishing blow without things falling apart. Yes, finish the damn battle so we can go home and declare it a victory.

Until Katasuke shows up and decided to fuck everything up. Being a massive idiot and use the scientific ninja tool to deliver the finishing blow…only to give Momoshiki the boost he needs to create even more havoc. It’s like…with Dragon Ball, when Gohan takes Goku’s place after he called it quits on his fight against Cell, Goku asking Krillin to give him a Senzu Bean…only for Goku to throw it and gives it to Cell for boost. Because…fairness according to Goku. That and pushing Gohan to power up. It’s almost like that. It’s almost like that. Like…Katasuke…have you already caused enough damage already with that tool? Boruto already learned that lesson. Pretty sure we don’t want to go through that again. Just as all hope is now lost with Momoshiki now gotten his strength back thanks to the stupidity of Katasuke with the guys surviving through a hail of fire thanks to Gaara and his sand shield only to end up being trapped in shadow paralysis and Naruto getting the shaft, as in getting rods stabbing at him from Momoshiki.

Then enter Boruto, before stepping in and help out the guys when it comes to Momoshiki, we have a little flashback before heading out towards the battlefield with Sasuke telling Boruto about his ninja way. Because Naruto has one and look how much stuff happened. Not throwing in the towel. Not calling it quits. Not calling over until he says it’s over. Boruto’s ninja way…despite that he said that it’s old fashioned and overused but in a time of battle that may be deemed unwinnable like this one, better have on ready to be used once the time comes and not wimp out. Thus to where we are now in this part of the countdown as Boruto ready to attack Momoshiki by using a Rasengan, in which Naruto is beyond shocked that Boruto can master that technique. And throw it towards him despite being small. It looks like it’s about to make it, but let’s not forget that for the Rasengan to happen, you need chakra. And chakra…of course, Momoshiki is gonna freaking absorb it. The mini Rasengan…poof, gone. That got everyone shook but Sasuke, take a look at Sasuke’s face because while everyone is at shock over the Rasengan disappear like that, Sasuke was like, “Guys…just…just watch. Watch and see the magic unfold.” And so he said that as the Rasengan that disappeared now landed a blow on Momoshiki and freed Naruto, Sasuke, and the other Four Kage from the shadow paralysis. A vanishing rasengan, a rasengan that was small and threw it like a baseball with a mix between lightning style and a change in chakra nature. Thus resulting in the rasengan to disappear and reappear like we saw against Momoshiki. And this is where things are about to get epic. Even more, probably, than earlier in the episode with Naruto and Sasuke facing off against Momoshiki in hand to hand to hand combat. Boruto is now getting ready for another round. Having the Rasengan ready to go. But just as that is happening, Naruto comes in and decided to help his son out when taking on Momoshiki like he’s lending some of his chakra to helping him out and as the Rasengan grows and grows in size…

Man, the feels. The feels. It’s so real. Beginning with Jiraiya, then to Kushina, Neji, Minato, Sasuke, and Hinata. Throughout the history of Naruto. How much we went from the very start. And it looks like at this very moment once he felt the weight of the Rasengan, it’s like the guy has finally understand what his dad gone through. And of course, as, the fans, went through watching it unfold as we now prepare to watch the final blow ready to be delivered with Boruto and Sasuke now charging in to finally put Momoshiki in his place.

Beginning with Sasuke taking charge to take on Momoshiki. Throwing his sword to the ground, only to switch positions with the sword thank to his Rinnegan and about to inflict the guy with chidori. The sword transform into Boruto and threw the kunai at him. But just the kunai was about to strike him from the back, he ends up grabbing it and about to inflicts some damage into Sasuke till…Rinnegan, the kunai now pierces through the palm where he can absorb the chakra. Now preventing him from absorbing any chakra…from that arm. Sending Sasuke out of the ring and leaving Boruto to do the finishing job. Landing a gut punch on him like a bullet. Only to be stopped by him but then shadow clones of him come into play. Taking it out. Then comes another one, this one landing a blow on the abdomen of Momoshiki with the tiny rasengan. Until the real one steps in and unleash the massive rasengan that both he and Naruto did. And…woo. It was balls to the walls with both Boruto and Momoshiki trying to outdo each other with the blast but at the end of the day, Boruto prevails and finally put Momoshiki in his place. But before we say goodbye to that guy, he sends somewhat of a worrisome message to him, saying that something bad is gonna happen to him in the distant future and that those who can beat a god cannot remain ordinary humans. So…what about Naruto and Sasuke? They beat Kaguya. Naruto beat Toneri. They’re gods. Why not given the message to either one of the two or both? Oh wait, that’s Boruto’s series. The whole thing with the Jougan, that special eye of his that only he can see. And of course, that little visit from Toneri in his dreams back in that Dark Cloud of Edge saga that been attacking people. Yeah, that.

Ending the episode with Naruto and Sasuke having a nice little chat about Boruto. It seems like Sasuke pretty much won the bet when it comes to the idea of even if times change with the new generation now taking charge, the soul of a shinobi sticks around and never changes. He even states that Boruto is like Naruto, someone who happens to be hotheaded and determined not to lose no matter what. As we end the episode with Boruto looking towards the sky, looking worn out following that attack he used against Momoshiki and of course, remembers what he said to him being parished into nothingness. And thus, ending the episode.

So why did this episode got the Number 18 spot in the Top 20 Countdown? Why does it deserve to be in the countdown? The animation, the first to be checked on the list because this episode pretty much went all shock and awe with the animation and how it was handled with the battle against Momoshiki. Mostly with Naruto and Sasuke taking on Momoshiki earlier in the episode and how beautifully it was handled. You could say that it was somewhat…nostalgic to be least, mostly with that little technique of theirs when they fought against Zabuza with the demon wind shuriken. And that got people giddy with joy over that battle and how the animation and the choreography was handled and executed perfectly. And because of that, there goes the animation budget for the series for a while.

And like how the story progression been handled. Mostly with Boruto because throughout the series, up until where we are now, the dude feels like he’s feeling neglected over the fact that daddy’s not around because he’s too busy with being the Hokage. Once the invasion from the three Otsutsukis come into play during the final rounds of the Chunnin Exams following Boruto getting caught with using a ninja tool that was forbidden to use, opinions from him change and well, the rest becomes history if you followed along through this arc and the movie, despite that the movie is no canon due to the re-adaptation. The point is, Boruto finally got acknowledged by Naruto. And of course, without using any scientific ninja tool in use to take on Momoshiki. So thank god for that.

So if there’s nothing else to say coming from my mouth, then I guess we’re done with Number 18 in the Top 20 Countdown for 2018. And at the time of the posting of this spot, Congratulations to the Soul Eater fandom for winning the 2018 Battle of the Week Voting Tournament. And tune in tomorrow as we tackle evil Amazon…from the future with delivery bots and a disgruntled worker as the Number 17 spot.
