We’re back from a bye and if you’re wondering why I have these reviews, especially the first two episodes posting on daylight Wednesday rather than the usual somewhat overnight Tuesday/early Wednesday morning hours... it all comes down to my laptop. As if I had problems with it before with the battery would be the end of the situation, but nope. Tell that to my memory and CPU usage that decided to pull some bullshit. Y’all hate that whenever you have to come to that, either at home or at work. And that shit killed the past two laptops in the past, so now, I have to be careful and I guess that would have to be the name of the game until I have this settled... or until I start thinking about getting another laptop with high storage and an updated processor but even then, it would feel like I would be sent back to square one. I don’t know those people who build their PCs do it to keep their things stable. But yeah, caution is the name of the game for the time being until the thing is somewhat settled or until I plan on getting a new laptop.
In this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers, Linda plays the designated driver for Teddy, who fell to injury, just as he was about to pick up Kathleen from her colonoscopy as the kids at school decide to crash a filming process from a drone that restricted them from recess while Bob is having a time of his life with his hair in my spoilerific review of the third episode of Season 15 of Bob’s Burgers, titled “Colon-ly the Dronely”.
There is a lot to unpack here for this episode... well, not a lot but there are some to unpack when having to do this episode. And we have three plots to uncover here. First is the main plot with Linda having to be the designated driver for Teddy when having to pick up Kathleen. You could say that this feels like something coming out of “Driving Big Dummy” from Season 12 with someone having to be the designated driver on their way to do something important. In that episode, you have Bob having Teddy as the designated driver because he (Bob) was going to pick up a new sink and Teddy has to become his driver who was transporting a giant dummy head to a mini golf course. This time around with this week’s episode, it’s Linda who has donned the designated driver role for Teddy to pick up Kathleen from her colonoscopy. Something that Teddy was originally going to do before getting into an accident because we can’t have nice things and something has to happen to not make the plot feel flat. Though you could probably say that it is sort of like the other episodes in the past when having to deal with Teddy’s situation like this past season with “Mission Impossi-Bob”, and we’re talking about the main plot with a Belcher helping Teddy or the opposite with the latter by the way, but it’s more or less of “Driving Big Dummy” because of someone having to the designated drive and, of course, a mishap having to stand in the way.
You also have the subplot of the episode with the kids at school and know what the “Dronely” in “Colon-ly the Dronely” is for the episode title. We know that a drone is in play and we got what it was for and it mostly boils down to the students, or at least the Belcher kids and some supporting cast, ready to crash what appears to be a filming process from a drone upon hearing the announcement of them and the rest of the school not being happy over their free time being restricted. Out here thinking that it’s some sort of totalitarian country. And there’s a third plot to the episode and I thought at first that it was going to be pure filler but apparently after watching it, somehow somewhat exceeded some expectations regarding Bob with his hair after using a different brand of shampoo. Might as well get this out of the way for this week’s episode, this is “Colon-ly the Dronely”. And speaking of Bob’s hair...
That’s where we begin the episode with him in the shower when getting ready for the day. Washing things up to get some boost in the morning... only for him to realize that he’s out of shampoo for him to use to wash his hair. Yep, ran out of shampoo. Nothing in the bottle for him to use to wash his hair. Hell, he tried to do the thing where whenever you ran out of shampoo, you put water into the bottle to serve as a DYI refill without having to waste your money on getting another bottle. We’ve all done it and let’s just say... the results show that it’s not an effective trick but the results may vary. Pretty sure we’ve all done that. I’ve done that. My family does that whether it’s dish soap or hair shampoo or body wash that isn’t bar soap that you have to rely on. Once again, the results may vary. So, Bob tried to use the water in the shampoo bottle technique but that alone isn’t enough, even if you have to shake it, it would still not be enough to fix the issue unless you plan on going to the store later.
Of course, it looks like all hope might not be lost after all once Bob notices a purple bottle sitting outside of the shower and decides to use it after reading the label and everything. The name of the bottle is in French called “Une bouteille de shampooing” and it has the scent of lilies. Questioning it at first before using it to wash his hair and going to the next scene...
The result speaks for itself once the family is together at the breakfast table. And look at Bob’s hair after using that bottle. The style with the light shading on the edge almost feels like something coming out of an animated movie as if the animators just found what’s ever left in the movie budget to mess around with Bob’s hair for this episode. Looking sleek like a pet’s hair after eating some pet food that you see in a commercial where one of the benefits would be healthy fur and a sleek one at best. Turns out that the bottle that Bob just used earlier in the morning hours was supposed to be for Linda for her to use. And knowing that Bob may have used up all of the shampoo as she accuses him of, it’s shit out of luck for Linda who had her name on it for her use.
As for where she got the bottle is from. You’d think that knowing that the shampoo has French wording, meaning that it’s from France or some other French-speaking country but primarily France, it would cost a lot of money and it would be at a fancy store instead of going to I guess a Bath and Body Works or a dollar store to get some VO5 shampoo, but nope. It’s the dumpster. You heard or read that right, the dumpster. Like... of all the places... of all the freaking places... why the dumpster? Why?! I get that the bottle had to be freakin expensive and crap... but a dumpster to find that bottle is the last place to find it for you to use. Out here thinking as if Oscar the Grouch was your underground trash dealer to find something expensive to buy for a cheaper price. Nasty. Even if the bottle that Bob just used is going to make himself look good. It’s nasty over where you got the bottle from. Got out of a pandemic and you go and do that.
We transitioned later in the morning with every student in their respective classroom where they were the morning announcements from Frond through the intercom. The camera switches over to the fourth-grade classroom and yep, this is where the controversy comes in if you’re a Wagstaff student regardless of whatever grade they’re in. And that is the announcement of the students being barred from having recess outside. A call that no one wants to hear regardless of whatever grade each student is in for a school that houses K-8 students because that’s the one thing that each student goes through every day and having that stripped away with no reason for why, which we’ll find out later in the first act of the episode, feels like something coming out of a totalitarian country like North Korea or what America will look like under a second Trump term. Yeah, please go vote this November so Project 2025 doesn’t become a thing.
Aside from that, once again, we got various non-speaking cameos from each student in the fourth, sixth, and eighth-grade classrooms upon hearing the news that after lunch recess outside is barred for no whatever reason other than making a blatant bullshit call. The fourth grade being the usual suspects aside from Louise like the twins (which they’ll have a huge part in the episode) and the non-speaking cameos of Chloe, Harley, Arnold, Kaylee, Hogarth, Wayne, Jeremy, and for the first time this season, Rudy with a non-speaking role rather than having to participate. Sixth-grade classroom with Gene, of course, the usual suspects in a non-speaking role and the same goes for the eighth graders. Missed opportunity once more when not showing the fifth and seventh-grade classrooms. Or at least if there’s another classroom that houses some characters that aren’t in the main classrooms where the main protags are. Just putting it out there, there has to be another classroom to house some of the fourth graders in this school.
We go back to the main plot of the episode with Bob’s hair now becoming the talk of the town, or rather, the building with Mort and Teddy noticing the change in Bob’s hair over the shampoo that he used to make his hair look like that. Looking slick and shit as if you used too much hair gel to make the hair look outstanding. And that’s going to be the side story of the episode for the main plot, serving as the C-plot, with Bob’s hair. I know that it’s going to feel like filler, which was the possible guess leading up to the point, but as I said in the introduction, someway and somehow, this exceeded some expectations later in the episode. Mort leaves to attend a funeral that he is hosting at his place by paying for his food.
And the same goes for Teddy as he got something big planned later in the day. Hoping to get his handyman job done early so he can go and pick up Kathleen. According to Linda once Teddy brought up what he was planning on doing for the day, she brought up that Kathleen had a colonoscopy appointment and he plans on picking her up once she’s done with the procedure. And knowing Teddy, he has to make sure that things will go as planned for Kathleen as she is prepared to go through the recovery phase. And the man has everything set up for his truck when having to pick her up and transport her to her apartment. We’re talking about his truck being cleaned up, pillows for Kathleen to feel comfortable, making sure that she doesn’t eat anything that could disrupt the healing phase like nuts or sunflower seeds, and putting on various songs to make sure things go as planned. And this is big for Teddy because he feels like he’s being tested on wanting to be there for Kathleen in her time of need. It’s a huge step for the guy and again, wants to make sure things go right. Especially with Kathleen wanting Teddy to pick her up and not her cousin Muriel for the job. So yeah, a huge task for Teddy and he wants to make sure that things will go right for the day. However, knowing that this is the first act of the episode, gotta follow what the script has to say, there’s going to be a mishap that stands in the way and could put a dent in Teddy’s plans.
Going back to the school with Gene and Louise on their way to their class where they overhear a conversation between Frond and Branca inside the janitor’s closet. Enough for them to eavesdrop on the conversation between the two adults. And it all ties in with the recent announcement of the students not being allowed to have recess outside with no explainable reason... up until now. The reason for why every student is upset over losing their recess time outside the building is because Frond is planning on having a drone operator to film the school from the sky and the recess hour is the only window to open for him to choose for the filming. And this isn’t Frond’s doing when making the call to have the school filmed, it’s all Principal Spoors because he wants a video of having an ariel view of the school through a drone camcorder for the school website. And like Teddy, Frond wants to make sure that things go right. Mostly because his trip with his mother is on the line if he wants to have a few days off to visit his aunt. And he wants to do it with no interruption to please Spoors. Of course, that’s not going to stop the kids if it means getting back at the guy who restricted them and everyone in the school from having recess. So for right now, the two Belcher siblings need to come up with a plan to disrupt it but it won’t be until after the next class period ends.
We finally reached the end of the first act of the episode and remember when I said that Teddy needs to make sure things go right for him when planning on picking up Kathleen from her colonoscopy? Yeah, this is where the mishap comes into play. Especially once Linda picks up the phone and it’s from Teddy. Linda talks to him and thinks that Teddy finished his job and plans on going to pick up Kathleen right on schedule. You know, giving him the status of his day. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case once we end the first act of the episode and go into the second because instead of having to go to Kathleen right away after finishing his handyman job and instead...
He ended up at a hospital. Not looking good for Teddy because he had everything planned for the day for him to pick up Kathleen from her colonoscopy and now, a dent has to derail his plans. And the screencap above shows it. A puffed-up eye and what I guess is a bruised lip on Teddy’s face. So, how did Teddy end up in a situation he’s in that put a massive hurdle in his plan to make sure things go right for him to pick up Kathleen from her colonoscopy? According to Teddy and oh boy, it’s not a good look. You could say it’s a bit gruesome just by imagining it in his shoes with his explanation of how he ended up on the injured reserve list. So, what has happened according to Teddy...
He was doing his handyman work, doing some work at a backyard patio by planting some wooden boards on the ground until a bee landed on his goggles. Not knowing that the bee is there, he places the goggles on and that alone startled the bee and goes on the attack with the insect stabbing him in the eye with its stinger because if there’s one thing to know about bees, like wasps, you don’t fuck with them. It’s that simple. Teddy gets attacked by a bee that is inside his goggles that he is wearing and stung one too many times like he’s Nicolas Cage in the Wicker Man, you know the scene I’m talking about, or when having to play Animal Crossing and your villager gets attacked by a swarm after failing to outrun it, and that’s just the first of many that landed Teddy a trip to the hospital. Because him getting attacked by a bee causes him to lose control to the point where he gets tangled by the wires that connected to his nail gun that was used for the wooden floor, especially when holding the goddamn thing, and oh boy, the scene with him accidentally pressing the trigger of his nail gun with the machine pointed down... oh god, that had to sting when seeing that scene. A nail in the leg that was shot by a nail gun going through the skin and bone... freaking A, man. Like goddamn. Like... you could feel that when seeing that scene. You could probably feel it. As for the lip... he bit himself in the lip during or after the attack and thus, here we are.
Landed at the hospital and now, Teddy’s perfect plan to pick up Kathleen as a big step in their relationship is now in potential ruins. The good news for Teddy is that it is early in the day. He has a lot of time and wants Linda to pick him up at the hospital so he can go and pick Kathleen up from her colonoscopy appointment at another hospital. Yeah, apparently, there are two hospitals instead of the same one where the colonoscopy is but whatever I guess. Linda gets the title of being the designated driver and thus, she plans on leaving the restaurant for the day to pick up Teddy, leaving Bob in his lonesome as he continues to glaze himself over his newfound hair from the shampoo used. I can already imagine a customer coming in and seeing Bob with his new hair and even though they would talk about it, it may be getting to the point of them saying to Bob to put the fries in the bag.
We go back to the subplot of the episode and it’s the free period once more for the Belcher kids with Gene and Louise, now with Tina, Andy, and Ollie in tow, and later Jimmy Jr, Zeke, and apparently, Peter Pescadero entering the chat when discussing what they’re planning on doing with the drone footage that Frond plans that resulted in him calling for the students to be barred from recess. Yes, Peter is a major player in this subplot along with the Pesto Twins, Jimmy Jr, and Zeke out of all the people to jump on board out of... well, everyone. I mean, Rudy would’ve been the easier answer but I could already guess from behind the scenes that they have to give Rudy a break for once after appearing one too many times, especially throughout Season 14 and going into the first episode of Season 15, that Rudy needs a bye week and let someone else enter the fray to be a part of the kids’ schemes for this episode as if they just pulled a name out of a hat and lo and behold, that’s where Peter Pescadero comes into play.
So the kids come up with a scheme to disrupt the filming process via a drone that Frond is planning on using... by a drone operator to film the school from the sky because they got upset over losing their recess privilege with no explanation until now to a certain few, mainly the key players for this subplot of the episode. And the plan is to disrupt the filming from the ground to the sky but what to do is the name of the game for them to conduct to make sure they get back at Frond for barring them from recess. All we know is that they’re going to photobomb, or video-bomb since it is recorded from a video camera and not a photo camera, like how some people oftentimes do for clout. It’s sort of like whenever a car from Google comes to your neighborhood that has a lot of cameras attached to take photos to update the street view feature of their maps and whenever you look up on Google Maps and go into street view and see something odd in the photo... yeah, that’s what they’re planning on doing. And as of now in the episode, they’re in the planning phases of what to do before the would’ve been recess hour arrives. But at least we know one thing, especially coming out of Jimmy Jr’s mind, dancing is now on the table. And even though Louise stated that the adults would know that could catch them red-handed, it’s not gonna stop them from having the option of being picked up as the plan to disrupt the filming. Until then, the option is on the table as Louise plans to have everyone get the fake bushes and smoke machine to serve as the disruption later on in the episode.
Linda makes it to the hospital to pick up Teddy and once that’s settled, the rest of the main plot of the episode is now a race against the clock before Kathleen is discharged from her colonoscopy procedure. Linda tries her best to not think about Teddy’s injury, especially to his face once she puts him in his car once going outside of the hospital, has to clean the front seat up first before putting him into the car. And if you’d think that they would go the hospital where Kathleen is right away... apparently not and that’s going to have to wait and a quick one at that because Teddy wants Linda to go to the site of the accident to get his truck since that is the vehicle he wants to pick up Kathleen because again, he wants to make things special once he picks her up and he dolled the truck up for her. And having to leave the truck behind despite now having to race against the clock could disrupt Teddy’s plans for a perfect day as if the accident he got from the bee sting, bit lip, and a nail lodged into his foot isn’t enough to put him down and ruin everything. And the day is still young, folks. The day is still young and we’re nowhere near the end of the episode's second act before we get to halftime.
While Linda does the job of being the designated driver to help Teddy reach Kathleen by getting his truck, we go back to the restaurant with a family coming out of a funeral and entering the restaurant to grab a post-funeral meal. And just as Bob places the menu for the family to read through for them to place their order, they quietly talk to each other about something that catches their attention upon entering the building. And you can see Bob being oblivious to what the family is saying when talking behind his back once placing the menus and wants to know what is drawing their attention and he searches around to cause the commotion. But we already know what it is. I mean, we’re looking right at it throughout the episode. Especially once the old man who I presume is the father speaking Arabic for Bob to not know what he or the rest of the family who are whispering in Arabic talking about. Bob thinks that maybe it’s his mustache or something else that got the family rolling but might as well lay it out, it’s the hair, stupid. It’s the hair. They’re talking about your hair that you somewhat glazed earlier in the episode. That got their attention upon entering and going into the second half of the episode once we go back to it, might as well explain to them what the fuss is all about.
We go back to Linda’s side of the episode with her finally picking up Teddy’s truck from the site per Teddy’s request because he had everything all dolled up for him to pick up Kathleen from her colonoscopy before falling to injury during his handyman job rather than going with the car Linda was using. Of course, it’s a race against the clock for Linda to get Teddy to the hospital where Kathleen is located because by now, the colposcopy should be wrapped up and for Kathleen to enter her healing phase and plans on waiting for her ride to arrive. And hoping for the accident with Teddy would be a one-and-done issue for the day on their way to pick up Kathleen and hoping for things to go right as planned without any more hurdles thrown their way... Is what I would say if it weren’t for Linda making a little boo-boo for her and Teddy on their way to the hospital and that is, of course, speeding. Going 15 miles over the speed limit on the road on what I guess the speed limit for this road that Linda is driving should be no more than what I’m guessing is 25 miles per hour. Or maybe less at around 20 or hell, 15 to be precise. Just be lucky that the road she’s driving is not in a school zone and having the lights flashing because that would put her in a very tight spot on her way to take Teddy to see Kathleen. So, as Linda gets pulled over for trying to make the truck go fast on some Sonic the Hedgehog timing...
We go back to Wagstaff during the lunchtime hours and oh yeah, pretty much a packed house inside the cafeteria with most of the students filling up the tables thanks in part to Frond barring every student in the school from going outside the building so he can have the drone operator fly the drone to film the school from the sky. So if you’re wondering where your favorite character that hadn’t gotten any screen time in the past episode or season, there you go even though various shots of various classrooms paint the picture. Though some are probably at the library or somewhere else inside the building. But yeah, packed house here in this week’s episode regarding the subplot. Back to the main players of this subplot...
The Belcher siblings along with Andy, Ollie, Jimmy Jr, Zeke, and Peter are still in the planning phases over how they’re going to crash the filming session once the drone hovers over the school. One being hoping to get the fake bushes and smoke machine out of the storage room but to do that, according to Louise, she needs everyone, one by one, to make their escape to not draw any suspicion from anyone in the school in hopes for the plan to work. However, the others still have their minds on dancing filmed in front of the drone as if this is pretty much the prime objective for them to do once the hour of truth hits. Especially when having to talk about the choice of song they want to use for them to bust a move as if they’re planning on filming a TikTok video much to Louise’s dismay.
Finally in the final few scenes of the first half of the episode with Linda and Teddy being pulled over by the police due to Linda going over the speed limit on their way to pick up Kathleen. Linda tries to reason with the officer in hopes that they won’t get either a ticket or be in police custody once the officer questions her about everything. So, just as Teddy is about to pull out the license and registration for his truck since it is his truck that Linda is driving because Teddy fell to injury, Linda tells the officer the reason for them being in a hurry is because they were on their way to pick Kathleen up from her colonoscopy and wants Teddy to be there to pick her up because she entrusted him to do the job. And the officer’s response to all of this? He decided to drop everything and decide to be their escort to the hospital. No ticket. No telling them to go off as a warning, which would’ve been the right option but nope, drop everything and become their escort because he has a family member, his grandmother, who had to undergo a colonoscopy and quite the save there because we really don’t want to know the details coming from Linda about how it works, but yeah, a colonoscopy saved his grandmother’s life and that alone should be enough for him to drop the charges and become Linda and Teddy’s escort to pick Kathleen up. And for Linda and Teddy, especially Teddy, looks like everything, despite the hurdles of the workplace injury and being pulled over, it looks like things might be going as planned for him... until...
Linda accidentally bumps into the police car to close the first half of the episode, not knowing that she is at an intersection when being pulled over. Yeah, looks like we’re not going anywhere anytime soon because Linda didn’t even notice that the police car stopped because they were at an intersection and also thought that with an escort, it’s non-stop driving but unless the police officer puts on the siren and police lights to signal everyone that there’s an escort going on, whether it’s a funeral precession or a medical emergency like a colonoscopy or a woman in labor because you didn’t have time to wait for an ambulance to arrive, here we are... stuck once again and derailing Teddy’s perfect day of him bearing the responsibility of picking Kathleen up from her colonoscopy appointment. So it can’t be any worse for Teddy to get to Kathleen. The injury from a bee at his job that resulted in him having a puffed-up eye, a bit lip, and a nail wound, being pulled over by the police, and now, his truck accidentally rammed into the back of the police officer’s car should be more than enough for Teddy, so what’s the worse that can happen?
Here comes another police officer entering the scene on his motorcycle and now putting Linda, Teddy, and the Officer to check up on the scene of the fender bender. Perfect way to start the second half of the episode and put Teddy on edge to start thinking about throwing in the towel. And the cherry on top when trying to get out of dodge to get the police officer on the motorcycle off of their backs, you have the police officer that was supposed to be their escort telling Linda to lie to the officer. Yes, lie to the police by the officer of all of the people to get him off of their backs so Teddy can reach Kathleen. And since Linda was the one who accidentally rammed into the back of the police car... it looks like she got no other choice but to follow along.
Linda attempts to lie to the officer to save her, Teddy, and the other officer’s skin in hopes for him to get them off of their backs so they can make it to Kathleen on time. Thinking that she’s having an affair with Teddy as her excuse for why she was over the speed limit and accidentally hit the back of the police car. But the lie quickly fell apart once Teddy came out with the officer noticing Teddy’s injuries as if it’s less of having an affair and more of well... you know even though that’s not the case and more of him having an accident and I should stop talking while I’m ahead. So, Linda has to end up telling the truth to the officer about wanting to get Teddy to pick up Kathleen from her colonoscopy. It worked fine for the first officer, who is under an intense amount of pressure, and now, all eyes are on to see if it will work for the other officer and hopefully get an escort from both officers or at least one officer, the one with the sunglasses and rode on a motorcycle, leaves and the other be their escort to the hospital. But unlike the other officer, named Earl, it won’t be an easy task for him to be convinced. Yeah, he’s that type of cop who won’t take bullshit for granted.
We check back at the kids now in the storage room with Louise having trouble finding the smoke machine from the shelf. They got the fake bushes and now, they need the smoke machine and treat it as if the bush is taking a fart. Making it as if fog is coming out of the bushes like it’s a horror movie in an attempt to crash the filming process once the drone hovers over the school grounds. And she wants to make sure things go right for the video-bomb with the bushes and smoke machine in place. As for the others who had to tag along with the siblings, once again, their minds are focusing on dancing as if the dancing option in front of the camera once the drone hovers over the school is the only option to be used for the plan to go into action. In the cafeteria, they’re talking about the choice of song. This time around in the storage room, it’s them re-enacting in preparation for the big moment. Can’t go out there with no practice as if you just watched something on the internet and plan on mimicking the dance, so might as well do some practice, even if it’s annoying Louise for a bit since it appears that she doesn’t want the dancing option to go forward.
We check back once again with Bob once he delivered the burgers to the family and yeah, it’s the hair. The family, now speaking English, well, three of the four members since the old man continues to speak in Arabic and this is where I’m gonna be terribly wrong on who’s who with the four members of the family since the Wiki as of this moment while typing this review have yet to have their character profiles created but their voice actors do. And one of the people I talked to on Discord did some process of elimination of who’s who as a possible guess when it comes to the characters. Again, until the character profiles are created for the four family members, this is pretty much me flooring it and going to be wrong to the nth degree on naming the characters. If I were to guess, Papou is the old guy, Dania is the woman, his daughter, sitting next to her, Hana is the other daughter sitting across from her father, and then Sam, the show really loves to pick names for random characters as if they got it from a name generator online, in the guy sitting next to Hana and happened to be the son. Again, could be wrong once the character profiles are created once the review is posted. But nice to know that the actors who are voicing the characters are Arabic with three of the four actors who voiced the characters being Lebanese and one actor who I guess voiced the father is Syrian.
Other than that, the family noticed Bob’s hair and it was more than enough for them to talk to the man of the hour once Bob delivered the food to the grieving family. And it’s not because of how the hair looks that got the family’s attention once entering the restaurant, but rather, the scent. The scent of lilies coming out of Bob that is plaguing the air of the building. And this is where the origin of the scent from the shampoo that Bob used comes into play. The funeral that the family just come out from when entering the restaurant was for their dead mom. And Dania has to bring it up to break the ice because the scent reminds them of their recently deceased mother because they don’t want to make things awkward between them and Bob, especially coming out of a funeral. And yes, got to put it out there as if we’re playing conspiracy theorist as if we got a board, yarn string, and pieces of paper to connect the dots on the docket, the family who’s in the restaurant recently got out of a funeral for their dead mom. Their dead mom got the same scent as Bob. The scent in question is lilies. Bob’s mom is named Lily who happens to be long dead. If that doesn’t get your mind blown from this when connecting the dots, then I don’t know what we’re doing. And remember earlier in the episode where we found out that Linda found the shampoo that was going to use on herself before Bob used it from the dumpster?
Well, we get a phone conversation between Bob and Linda with their respective predicaments miles away from each other with Bob dealing with the family who noticed the hair and the scent, and on the other side, Linda along with Teddy pulled over by the police and now dealing with a fender bender situation and it looks like we got our answer to know which dumpster Linda dived to get the shampoo. Found out that the dumpster that Linda dug through to find the bottle turns out to be from Mort’s. Meaning that Mort used the bottle, though only a portion and not a lot that resulted in it being thrown away in the dumpster, so, talk about a fucking waste there, Mort, that was used for the dead woman who happened to be the dead mother that the family attended her funeral. As for why Linda did it leading up to this morning? She thinks that Mort gives the grieving family something once the funeral service wraps up to make them closer to the deceased and the stuff that wasn’t in the gift basket gets thrown out. And the shampoo in question is that item that was thrown out. Once again, a waste since there’s a lot of shampoo and should’ve just given it away to someone in a non-funeral business... or at least give it to the Belchers, just don’t let Teddy know. But instead, you decided to take the bottle that was used for a corpse for free rather than going to some fancy store or just buying it on Amazon. Like good fucking God, Linda. Good fucking God. I know they said that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure... but coming out of a pandemic, no. Just no. I ain’t touching that. The same goes for y’all. So once Bob and Linda ended their call after the revelation of where the bottle came from...
We’re at the point of the episode where a character might be ready to either throw in the towel or decide to be an ass. Case in point, Teddy is ready to throw in the towel. His day is already ruined with everything thrown in his way with the injury, being pulled over by the police, and now having to wait for what the police officer has to say that could result in him (or Linda or both) getting a ticket, all hope for him to pick up Kathleen and to bear the responsibility is now burst into flames. Getting to the point where he now plans on calling up Kathleen's cousin Muriel to pick her up. And yes, you could blame Linda for being in a hurry for Teddy because of a mishap that happened earlier in the day even though you can blame the universe (and the scriptwriters) for how we ended up here.
Of course, that’s not going to stop Linda from making that the day will go in Teddy’s favor because we are nearing the fourth act of the episode and now is the time for her to make up to Teddy and to get him to Kathleen. She tells him to call Muriel to not pick Kathleen up and tells her that she should not step in and instead, let him do the job as Kathleen wanted him to. And for Linda, she plans on continuing to plead to the officer to let them go because they’re running out of time to pick Kathleen up from the hospital and want to get there before Muriel arrives at the front of the building. Pretty much the same way some people convince the police when speeding to let them go as they transport their loved one to the hospital either because of a serious injury or are about to go into labor. It worked for Earl and now, she awaits if the same goes for the other officer for them to get him off of his back. And knowing that it is the third act and now preparing to enter the fourth and final act of the episode, he decides to let them go free and escort Teddy to the hospital to pick Kathleen up. Results may vary and I would condone anyone doing this as an excuse thinking it’s a medical emergency and instead, using it for stupid and possibly illegal stuff.
Ending the third act of the episode and now going into the fourth and final act for this week, it looks like Teddy and Linda are finally getting their escort by the police and ready to pick up Kathleen on time with Teddy calling Muriel to stand down and tells her through the phone that him picking Kathleen up is back on schedule. Of course, no answer from Teddy’s cousin because of her being self-conscious when it comes to being on the phone while driving, meaning that she got the message from Teddy to give her the go-ahead to pick Kathleen up right before changing his mind by Linda. So now, it’s a race against the clock to make sure he gets there and not Muriel. And with a police escort after being stopped that lasted for nearly an hour because of the speeding issue and the fender bender, they need to get there on time as if, yes, treating it as if someone is going into labor.
We go back to what the kids are doing back in Wagstaff with the Belcher siblings, along with the Pesto Twins, Jimmy Jr, Zeke, and Peter, all with fake bushes and a smoke machine that Louise finally found off-camera, and is now ready to make their way out of the building and towards the back of the school where the playground is at. They just need to get Branca, who is standing in the way and guarding the door to the back of the school, away so they can head out. Luckily for the kids, it’s Mr. Branca, so they have to come up with a hazard for him to leave his post. In comes Gene yelling about a giant pile of puke nearby that he has seen in his life and that’s more than enough for Branca to abandon his post and for the kids to make their escape and set up camp with Louise, of course, plugging in the cord that connects the smoke detector. Even though there might be a chance that someone will know just by looking at the extension cord but I guess that’s not the case later on in the final act of the episode.
Going back to the restaurant with the hair situation now being settled as we are nearing the two-minute warning. Yeah, a bit of a short episode to be honest with only 20 minutes of runtime for this week. But yeah, we are nearing the two-minute warning of the episode, and it turns out that the shampoo became the topic of conversation between the family and Bob. We already know that the bottle Bob used on him at the start of the episode has French wording and that it’s from France. According to Dania, her mother used to get the shampoo while she was in Paris. And also found out that the distributor of the shampoo... they don’t make these anymore. So that would mean that Bob pretty much used the last bottle of that shampoo in existence. Other than that, that should be the end of the hair and shampoo situation between Bob and the family, right? Not exactly because apparently, Papou, according to Dania, has one request he wants Bob to do before finally putting this whole to rest. His request to Bob and I’m not kidding on what about to say because that’s his word on the script, but his request to Bob is to... sniff his hair. Not kidding, that’s his request because he was unable to get close to the casket while it was open during the service, and now, thinking that it would feel like he is about to get closer to her once more, here we go. And it looks like Bob can’t back out of this one but to accept the request. A weird request but okay I guess.
We now reached the two-minute warning of the episode and Linda and Teddy finally made it to the hospital where Kathleen is ready to be picked up. Of course, off by a second because Kathleen’s cousin Muriel is also at the scene and is ready to pick Kathleen up herself. This of course leads Linda to step up and improvise by attempting to distract Muriel from reaching Kathleen to create an opening for Teddy to reach her. Kathleen wants to know what happened to Teddy just by looking at his face because of the injury he got earlier but decides to tell her along the way back to her place once he puts her in his truck with Linda driving behind the wheel. But other than that, it looks like Teddy finally got the mission done despite the mishaps he had to go through throughout the day, especially once Linda steps in to help him perform the task. And now, we get to the montage portion of the episode and oh boy, we got a lot to unpack here in the final few scenes of the episode. And we begin with, of course, the subplot with the kids.
The kids are now in position and the drone is ready to fly once the drone operator who is standing next to Frond begins operating the drone to record a footage of Wagstaff from the sky in an attempt to please Spoors. Louise was ready to do the plan her way, which is the bushes farting out smoke from a smoke machine before noticing everyone sitting in a bored position as if they’re upset that they’re not going to be able to dance as what they want throughout the episode since finding out the reason for why every student were barred from going outside for recess. And in typical Louise fashion in this era of the show, she ends up having a change of heart and lets everyone dance across the fake bushes once the drone hovers over the school. Everyone being jubilant and dances the day away with them doing various dance moves and having fun. Hell, you have Louise, who was opposed to this at first and decides to join in by spraying the smoke machine across the vicinity to make things more fun and also have the two ideas mashed into one. And that alone caught Mr. Frond’s attention when seeing the footage live and boy, oh boy, he wasn’t having it. I mean, you did take away their recess from them and they were not happy about it. What do you think was going to happen?
We then get a small scene with Linda and Teddy taking Kathleen back to her place after being picked up from the hospital as she is currently in a healing phase from her colonoscopy with her eating some snacks to make her feel better. Not a lot to say other than it’s a cute scene for Teddy to be there for Kathleen. That and also the kids dancing are both very nice scenes as we’re nearing the end of the episode. And for Teddy, hey, at least he got a win in this episode despite the hurdles he had to go through when planning on picking her up.
But then we get to the scene with Bob and the family letting the father, Papou, sniff Bob’s hair. Someway and somehow, this subplot exceeded my expectations leading up to the premiere of this episode. Because I thought that this was going to be pure filler and felt like it didn’t need to have its own story since the focus was on Teddy and Linda on their way to pick up Kathleen from her colonoscopy and the kids planning to back at Frond by staging a photobomb once the drone hovers over the school. Okay, sure, there’s some online saying that they felt emotional with this scene at the end of the episode, especially with Papou becoming teary-eyed after taking a whiff of Bob’s hair and being reminded of his dead wife and I’m pretty much the opposite of that but that doesn’t mean I didn’t like it. It was a good scene and again, this exceeded my expectations for this side story for the episode that I thought at first was going to be nothing more than filler. But it was a pretty good scene and yeah, you could say that Bob knows what’s it like where the family is coming from because he too lost a relative, a parent, much like them, and again, connecting the dots regarding the shampoo and the scent and the status of the mother, but it was a good scene regardless. Especially when having the entire family coming in and taking a whiff to be reminded of their mother.
And now, finally at the end of the episode and we have the family watching the film that is now posted on the school website of them dancing and now Frond chasing after them for violating his call of not allowing students to go outside while the filming was taking place. And that little rampant is now on the site for the world to see... if someone were to pick it up and turn it into a viral hit of course. But hey, at least the kids got their lick back from Frond for not letting them go outside and them being happy with the dancing in front of the camera is more than enough to not sour their day unless you’re one of the poor saps in the school unaware of the cause behind the announcement.
Reaction/Thoughts:
So all and all, what do I think about this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers? What I thought it was going to be an average episode... it still is but giving it a second watch and having to play memory when going through the transcript to help me with the typing portion of the review, it’s actually a good episode. Once again, we got a good episode, and what it is? Three in a row now for this season to have good episodes? Think it has and somehow exceeded my expectations leading up to the episode’s initial premiere this past weekend.
All three plots were good but the one that was the highlight would be either the main plot with Linda and Teddy having to go through massive hurdles to get to Kathleen when having to go through her colonoscopy or Bob with his hair that I thought it was going to be filler in my opinion exceeded my expectations once we got an emotional scene with the father sniffing Bob’s hair to remember his dead wife. But it’s mostly giving the edge to the main plot because it was nice for once in a while for Teddy to get a win and it’s him wanting to be there for Kathleen and doesn’t want to mess things up, no matter how much the universe (or the scriptwriters) throw at him. And that was pretty nice.
The subplot was alright with the kids and knew right away that they were going to ignore Frond’s call to bar the students from going outside just because he wanted to have the school filmed from the sky for the school website. And also knew right away that Louise was going to have a change of heart but it’s a nice scene at the end with the kids who wanted to dance, a plan that was on the table for the duration of the subplot, and got their wish at the end. But it’s the other subplot with Bob and his hair that exceeded my expectations. Especially right at the end of the episode with the family taking a whiff of his hair. You can say it’s weird but some on the internet when talking about the episode felt a bit emotional and it was a very nice scene to prove me wrong. Otherwise, it’s a good episode nonetheless. So I’ll give “Colon-ly the Dronely”...
A 7 out of 10. Mostly because of the subplot with the kids but that didn’t sour the mood. So it’s a 7 out of 10 from me. That’s my opinion and I wanna hear yours in the comments below. We got a new episode this upcoming Sunday and for the first time in nearly two years, we got a Halloween episode and it’s a murder mystery regarding dolls in the fourth episode of Season 15, the twelfth Halloween-themed episode of the series, “For Whom the Doll Toes”. I know it’s supposed to say “Tolls” and not “Toes” but hopefully we’ll see why it’s called that.
