Entering the month of May with the season now on the verge of coming to a close. Second season doing these reviews once again since the comeback back in September into October 2018 and...this feels like it’s going to be like 2016 where I’m about to expect yet another lump, or rather a yip or two come...let’s say around November, let’s go with that. But enough all that, let’s talk about pooping...yeah, a random ass topic but apparently, this is how the episode is going to play out.
In this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers, Louise’s excitement for her school lock-in over at the town aquarium decided to go down south when she has to deal with her fear of taking a dump in public bathrooms as Linda gets the rest of the family to perform a music video for Linda’s parents in my spoilerific review of the twentieth episode of Season 10, titled “Poops!... I Didn’t Do It Again”.
For an episode that revolves a random topic like pooping of all topics, this was a pretty good episode. And if you think I’m bullshitting you on that, it’s not. This was a really good episode to take in. It’s much like with “Glued, Where’s My Bob”, the 100th episode of the show, with the synopsis that silly with Bob being stuck in the toilet leading up to his magazine interview ending up being a pretty good episode and I feel like this episode did the same and it happens to be a Bob and Louise episode with Louise wanting to get over her fear of going to the public restrooms with Bob in her side leading up to the night of the lock-in over at the aquarium. Where the subplot of the episode...yeah, I mean it’s there, but the family to do something to pass the time and it looks like embarrassing themselves for their grandparents’ anniversary might be the cake. See, this is why families don’t get along pre-pandemic, but it looks like the Belchers, under Linda’s orders, have to do it for our amusement for our time of need. That being said, let’s get on to the review of this week’s episode, this is “Poops!... I Didn’t Do It Again.”
Starting off the episode with Ms. LaBonz ready to pass out the quiz papers for the fourth graders about all things sea life, since it looks like the class has learned a thing or two about marine science and not going way too far into marine biology where apparently, Louise is ecstatic over the wait for her result for her quiz. Which you know that it feels like it’s the end times where Louise get excited over schoolwork. But apparently, once later on into the episode, is something that Louise wants and now have for the upcoming school lock-in because the person who aces the quiz about the subject will be feeding the sharks once Friday Night hits. And it looks like Louise has aced her exam and now be ready to feed nature’s most dangerous creatures. Might as well set up a little note added to the idea of a student feeding a shark that includes signing a clause that states the school and/or aquarium isn’t responsible for a student losing an arm or leg while feeding the shark. And shark attacks can happen at any given time, especially aquariums. Which might give away the question, why the fuck would you get sharks to an aquarium?!
But that won’t bother Louise because she got a time of a lifetime come Friday Night over at the aquarium, but Bob decided to rain on her parade and bring up that if she’s going to the aquarium overnight, she may have to endure the idea of going to the bathroom...in a public place...between two people in each side. When taking a shit. Normally, with this episode that involves going to the toilet, you think of either Gene or Bob taking the helm but never Louise until right now when Bob brought up the topic of pooping somewhere else. But Louise seems confident over the whole thing and have the whole thing all planned out without letting her fear ruin her night. Poop before heading out, enjoy her night, sleep over at the aquarium, get picked up the next morning, and boom, back home she goes and pretend it never happens. Which is kind of random but okay, if that’s how Louise want to roll, then alright, good luck with that. Though the idea of her having a fear of pooping in public places, I mean it’s no random occurrence when it comes to whether or not you want to go use the bathroom over let’s either the restaurant or gas station or probably a random rest area in the middle of fuck buck nowhere and those restrooms were never clean. Even in this middle of this pandemic. Sure, the whole idea might be a sanitary issue but there’s some group of people where they just don’t like the idea of two people between you in both sides of the stall and just have to wait until you get home and go full release. But it looks like it won’t bother Louise as she counts the day to the big night over at the aquarium. Or so you thought.
Once night hits and after the family meeting of how the family should do for Linda’s parents’ anniversary that is coming up, a subplot come later, we have Louise going onto the toilet and poop it out coming from someone who poops once a week that would probably help her with that as she is taking a dookie before going to bed as she gets transported to the aquarium and being seen by both Ms. LaBonz and Rudy in the middle of the aquarium, with her pants down while carrying Kuchi Kopi, and applaud over what Louise is doing and thinking that she’s going to end up becoming the joke of the town, rather the school, that someone who has a reputation as a mischievous bunny child who pretty much rule the school have a fear of pooping in public places. Thus causing her to wake up from the nightmare...only to go all “Pig Trouble in Little Tina” with the nightmare within a nightmare with her back in her room but Rudy being next to her bed, seriously Rudy, even in dreams, there’s boundaries, before she truly wakes up from her nightmare and now being stuck in a massive problem and now have to tackle her problem as the big day draws near.
So as the days go on and one as we count down to the big event at the aquarium on Friday with Louise trying to get her poop on and go all out but as the days pass by from Tuesday to Thursday, things aren’t looking really good for Louise here as she tried and tried and tried to poop it out before the big day but ultimately failed once Thursday arrives and headed back to her room in shame, thus causing Bob to enter the room and tries to reason with her. Of course, the entire family decided to butt in as well, talk about being supportive, with Bob decided to help his youngest daughter to get through this whole mess deep in the bowels of the problem that Louise is currently having and if you think that he would go straight towards the reconsider option, ain’t doing that. That’s the quitter way on dealing with problems. But instead, Bob decided to help Louise out by heading out to the local drug store to get some laxatives to help her poop before the big night and with the clock ticking, it looks like Louise doesn’t have a choice and must take that route if she wants to survive through the whole night at the aquarium come Friday with the whole fourth grade class. Yeah, nothing wrong with giving a nine-year-old girl something like laxatives to get through the whole week. Maybe next, we can hand over a dog the nuclear codes and not like, I don’t know, use it on random cats. But something has to work. With Louise with laxatives I mean, not the giving a dog some nukes.
Bob and Louise went to the drug store to buy some laxatives to help Louise dealing with her fears of pooping in public restrooms with Bob getting the bottle and handing it over to Louise and putting it onto the cart. But enough with Louise’s side of the problem, let’s talk about Bob's side of the aisle in the form of his own problem as the two arrive at the checkout aisle of the drug store. Apparently, he had a similar situation as Louise back in his day when he asked a girl named Jess Newton to the middle school dance and got a surprised answer in the form of “yes”, in which he felt nervous rather than being excited. Causing his stomach to back up and next thing you know, on the night of his school dance, stomach pains decided to ruin the night and he never have he ever gone to a public restroom, mostly over at his school and because of that, in a come of a shock from Louise, Bob didn’t skip out at the last possible minute because of that fear of going to public bathrooms. So he got his shot to be with someone at the dance, do mind that this is way before meeting Linda, but then decided to not go to the event because of fears of public bathrooms enough to turn your life into a living hell come the next school day. Like wow, he had an opportunity to be with someone and then stomach pains and fears of public bathrooms decided to kick in and caused him to bail out at the last possible. That is like sad. Sad enough that the cashier who is working at the drug store overheard the whole thing from top to bottom. Way to set up the mood there, Bob. Really nailed it.
Following the shooting of the first video that pretty much gone downhill that fast like a meteor hitting the Earth, we have Bob giving Louise a spoonful of laxatives and stool powder and whatnot to help her out dealing with her issues with pooping before the big day arrives since it looks like the clock is now ticking. Louise takes the spoonful, of course with a bitter taste like with all medicine with the first taste and of course, once that’s done, she’s ready for the nuke.
But not until hugging Bob for everything that he tried to help his youngest daughter out before ready to take the dookie to the bank. Which okay fine, solidarity, take the points. I mean this is a Bob and Louise episode, so why not adding that to the mix. I mean, nothing wrong with an episode that has both Bob and Louise and the Bob and Louise episodes are pretty much the type of episodes that most fans like when it comes to having the spotlighting over at a parent (Bob or Linda) and kid (Tina, Gene, and Louise), even if it rare to see a certain pick for an episode earlier this season with both Bob and Tina with the boat race and that was rare to see that in action though Bob and Louise episodes like one of the most favorite episodes for most people who watched this show. I mean let’s forget episodes like “Hawk & Chick”, “Carpe Museum”, and “Late Afternoon in the Garden of Bob and Louise” and it looks like this episode has pretty much fitted into that column with Bob, who had an issue of wanting to go to the public restrooms, helping Louise, who is dealing with a similar problem, in time for her to go to her school lock-in at the aquarium.
Onto the day of the lock-in with the family hoping for Louise to finally done the deed early in the morning before heading out for school as we transition later onto the day with Bob and Linda have a conversation over the whole situation and thinks that will this really work out and solve her problem when dealing with the fear of using the public bathroom with Louise really looking miserable when trying to get rid of this urge. I mean Louise has to try and get this out of the bag as soon as possible and yeah, I don’t think that using the school bathroom would help out because it is a public place and she doesn’t do that. So I think she pretty much held that in until she comes back home. And so she did once her, Tina, and Gene all arrived back from school with Louise about head upstairs to the bathroom to try it again one last time before heading out for the night. How that worked out? Well...
It didn’t. She did not poop over at the house. Didn’t do it in time for her to visit the aquarium and now she’s heading off to the aquarium and to make things worse, it looks like her stomach is now ready to turn into a ticking time bomb once arriving there and this may or may not have something to do with the laxatives and the other stuff mixed into Louise’s digestive system that decided to now do their work, but either way, it looks like Louise will now have to consider going to the public bathroom with Bob driving her to the aquarium until finally arriving there and joins the whole class for the entire night and praying that her night with the fishes doesn’t go 20,000 miles under the drain of the toilet seat. Looks like Louise may going to need a miracle on this one.
By the way, just putting it out there that the aquarium that Louise and the rest of her fourth grade class is technically different from the one that we just saw back in Season 7 with “Aquaticism” because the aquarium in that episode is rather small than the one over at Bog Harbor, which is like your usual aquarium you would visit within the depths of downtown or intown or whatever. Pointing it out there as the kids get greeted by the aquarium lady who is ready to give the kids a tour of the whole place. That and the rundown on what everyone will be doing up until the morning hours of the next day. But it looks like Louise’s stomach has pretty turned itself into a ticking time bomb with her asking the aquarium lady when the shark feeding commences and hoping to be a first few minutes, like after the whole meet and greet is over with. But of course, rundown of how this whole lock-in will play out with the kids finding their spot to sleep, go on a tour, get some dinner, and then feed the sharks. So uh...yeah, ballpark is now on Louise as she now has to battle her stomach in a what could be an unwinnable battle as the tour begins to take its course.
As the tour continues on, the kids stroll through the jellyfish tank with Louise having some issues along the way with her digestive system and tried to fight it as the tour drags on and of course, that leads her to the shark tank, in which Louise become awestruck over the tank with every shark in different types, though you kinda feel bad for the guys who had to drag the sharks into the tank because let’s face it, sharks are nothing to fuck with. That and...
The now introduced “murder hornets”. God, it’s only the first week of May, nearing the halfway mark of the year and it feels like 2020 is not going down until everyone you know dies. Man, we gotta need those PSAs about the dangers of shark infested waters. I bet Canada would do the job for us. They’re notorious for those PSAs where they start nice and friendly before taking a complete 180 and take a dark and dramatic turn at the end. By the way, how many shark attacks happened in our neighbors up north?
Oh...even in places where their winters are butt fuck cold, you can get shark attacks over there. But yeah, I would be surprised if there’s a PSA about sharks coming from Canada. Any Canadian readers and fans of the show: One, we apologize for Louise being anti-Canada. And two: there better a PSA out there about a shark attack there. Good luck with that by sending over at the comments or DM-ing me over at Tumblr or Twitter. But yeah, sharks are present over at the tank and Louise felt excited over it but apparently, Louise’s stomach is pretty much making things harder for the nine-year-old and well...it’s now pick your poison for Louise here for an option to take, either’s going to be A) Use the public restroom. B) Call Bob to pick her up and probably exit out in shame. Or C) Pretty much crapping herself in front of the whole class. Which one will it be?
And it’s Option B as the choice for Louise. Yeah, so Louise called Bob, by pretty much running while preventing her stomach winning this battle, who is currently had to deal with the whole filming as pickles for a family wide video for bullshit reasons that would pretty much be the joke of the town, if not, the entire fucking world, didn’t even bother taking the pickle costume, same one from “Paraders of the Lost Float” from Season 7, and drove his way to the aquarium...don’t know if he like sped his way to the place while Louise’s stomach is ready to reach the final minutes from blowing up with Bob taking her back to the car, telling Ms. LaBonz with a ruse and thinks that she’s somehow being sick, and ready to head out so she can poop at home, though with her butt ready to blow chunks...let’s face it, she would probably not make it even if she did make it back at the house.
Louise now decided to take on her fear of using the public restroom inside the aquarium rather than going home and have her special night being ruined over a toilet seat at a public space than at the comfort of your own home. And it looks like she’s not doing this alone in this fight because it looks Bob is going to do it as well, mostly to help her daughter out. And not in like Louise literally in the bathroom with Bob cheering her up like it’s a round of potty training cause that would be weird and also disturbing, mostly having the idea of a grown man in the girls’ room and hope that their daughter has tackle her fear. The two go their separate ways with Louise entering the girls room and Bob the boys and enter the lion’s den for a few minutes until they finally got out and finally got rid of their fear of using public restrooms…just hope those seats are clean because…sanitary issues. We’re in the middle of a coronavirus pandemic, what the hell is your excuse?
But yeah, both Louise and Bob have finally done it and tackled their fear of using the public bathrooms, mostly because Louise has pooped out of her system thanks to one girl on the left peeing and the other on the right also peeing and using the sounds from the two stalls pretty much helped Louise out. Bob the same, though having some issue getting the costume off though...uh...don’t know if he either finally pooped on the toilet or pretty much crapped himself. If it is, then pretty sure either one would notice. But regardless, Louise have finally got the whole fear of pooping in public places out of the way and now on her way to feed the sharks and so she did in time, and also tell everyone about what happened and...yeah, pretty much should’ve like kept that to yourself there, Louise. But who cares about that, it’s shark feeding time for Louise to wrap up the main plot of the episode and of course, we have a subplot to get through, so let’s get over there so we can wrap this puppy up.
Coinciding over the main plot leading up the school lock-in at the aquarium, Linda comes to the living room with the laptop in her hands after getting a call from Gloria, which pretty much may need to check on her because I’m sensing cognitive decline for her, telling the whole family that some random old hag’s family did a video for her 90th birthday of them in banana suits and even showing them a video of it which...could pretty much explain why families don’t hang around too much before this pandemic struck. Yeah, that might be the real reason. Following the video, Linda now want to do the same with the family for her parents’ wedding anniversary which is coming up and of course, it’s now mandatory for the whole family to do the filming, which includes Louise who has to deal with the whole thing with the whole pooping in public restroom issue. But they have to do and they up until Saturday to have the whole thing filmed, edited, and to be sent to Gloria and Al on the day of their anniversary...just hope they know how to open it and not like ending up deleting it. Okay boomer.
As Bob and Louise are out to the pharmacy for some laxatives and other stuff to turn Louise’s digestive system into a ticking time bomb, Linda comes in with in her hands and decided to have a food theme, taking notes from that video with the family in banana costumes, surprised that the show didn’t do their rendition of Peanut Butter Jelly, and thinks that if that family can dress up as bananas, the Belchers decided to go as a different piece of food in the form of pickles. As in the pickle costumes that they wore back in Season 7 in “Paraders of the Lost Float” though Gene did not have a pickle costume in the episode and go as Beefsquatch but that’s not something to worry about as Linda bring out an old camera from the box. Just hope that this isn’t the camera that Bob used that have some major problems recording in the first parts of “Mom, Lies, and Videotape” because that would be a problem for Linda leading up to her parents’ anniversary.
Onto the kitchen we go with Linda pressing the record button with the whole family on the table and recreate what that family from that video did, and by recreate, it’s possibly stealing. Don’t expect the copyright police to come knocking on their doors once the video is sent. Anyway, the camera is now rolling with the family trying to reenact the beginning of the video but seems to be going off script as the filming rolls on and of course, ending the video being off sync when reaching the part where Linda pauses the video and have the family to go into costume position, except for Louise who has to head out to the bathroom which of course, no luck getting it out of her system.
Once night falls onto the next day and after Bob dropping Louise off at the aquarium in a now do or die situation when dealing with extreme stomach pains courtesy of the laxatives and stomach powder, we have Tina, Gene, Linda, and Bob in their pickle costumes with Gene wearing a purple pickle costume rather than green like the rest of the family but it’s Gene, purple is pretty much rocking the look so don’t judge him. Which Linda thinks that they have done good with Tina doing the singing...if it weren’t for the fact that Linda forgot to record the damn thing, so now they have to do it again. And Bob, Tina, and Gene felt exhausted for doing this. And this isn’t the first take. This is the ninth time they’re doing this! Nine times! Good god at least give those guys a break. I know you want to make things perfect for their special day but at least give them something to relax so they can recharge. Tina and Gene wanting a break and Bob worrying about Louise with this whole mess with the bathroom issue, but Linda pretty sure Louise got it handled though uh...yeah, pretty sure at the same time, she is trying to fight against a battle and show signs that she is losing. Tina is feeling exhausted over all of this and Gene of course want to skip over this want to go straight towards the tickling scene, which Linda did grant permission and have a go as they say.
Resulting in Gene chasing around Bob around and tackle him down to the floor and tickle the ever-living shit out of him. And well, making Bob uncomfortable and not because of the pickle suit or just doesn’t like being touched. But this even bother Gene and continues doing his thing all the way to the part where Bob gets the call to go to the aquarium. Good Gene...good, tickle him. Tickle the burger man like there’s no tomorrow.
With Bob now out to pick Louise up from the aquarium, that leaves Tina, Gene, and Linda to record for Gloria and Al’s anniversary with Linda deciding to continue filming without having Bob and Louise around with Linda holding a picture of Bob, which...really good artwork there Linda. Really crafty. And have Gene to take the picture and pretends that he’s Bob. Though you think having him going back into his Little Bob persona back in Season 3 but it looks like we’re not doing that for this episode as we close out the subplot of the episode with Linda taking five and take Tina and Gene out for ice cream though the subplot of the episode with them in pickle suits doesn’t really wrap up until the credits roll in with Bob, still wearing the pickle suit following him pretty much crapping himself and Louise now wearing the suit, probably set after being picked up in the wee morning hours but at least that got resolved and I usually I don’t even mention the credit gags in these reviews. So consider that a first and possibly the only first...don’t know if I ever did that in the past. Don’t know if it’s either “Wharf Horse” or probably “Work Hard or Die Trying, Girl” that I talked about the credit gag. And don’t worry, this isn’t the cognitive decline talking, that’s pretty much me being a total dumbass.
Reaction/Thoughts:
So all and all, what do I think about this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers? A lot of people might as well take this a...uh...controversial one to say the least when it comes to this episode mostly with either having the idea of Louise being afraid of using the public bathroom even though she did poop at the pool back in Season 2 or the fact that she poops once a week in Season 3 or the fact that the idea was even brought up in the first place or the overuse of Brooke Dillman in each and every episode which cut her some slack okay, or even think that this episode pretty much made them think that the show has officially jumped the shark. But to be perfectly honest in my take for this episode...I kinda like it.No bullshitting here, this was a pretty good episode. Sure, the idea of Louise (and Bob) being afraid of using public bathrooms seems rather out of the ordinary and pretty much have a lot of continuity errors accidentally spilled into the mix like adding rat poison to your soup but it was a pretty good episode mostly because you kind of have your basic elements when it comes to this being a Bob and Louise episode and it’s been a while since we have that and honestly, this was a good episode. But I’m not gonna treat this episode like it’s...I don’t know, the Star Wars prequels or The Last Jedi or even The Rise of Skywalker, this was a pretty good episode.
Sure, people may going to have some issues with this episode with the whole thing with and how the idea of Louise being afraid of going to public bathrooms being a thing and think that it’s pretty much a stupid premise to touch upon. I mean let’s face it, there are some people in the Earth’s population that don’t do public bathrooms, whether being a sanitary issue or just wanted to do it at home, having Louise to do it seems kinda of feel like we’ve been thrown off when the synopsis came out. I mean hell, I even think that the idea of someone on the toilet seems kind of far fetch and kinda idiotic but like with “Glued, Where’s My Bob”, which has a similar premise like with this episode though that episode have Bob being stuck with his pants down and got caught in the crossfire in the kids’ ongoing prank war, this one have Louise having the trouble of using the bathroom in a place that isn’t her home and with her being the person who only poops once a week as said in Season 3 pretty much makes that a challenge for her. A challenge that Louise pretty much makes it an unwinnable battle as the week drags on leading up to the night of the lock-in until she finally decided to use that bathroom at the end. And with Bob helping out, who also had a similar issue that his youngest daughter is going through, though a challenge, pretty much resolves it though with Louise feeling fine after using it but Bob pretty much crapped his pants when having an issue taking his pickle suit off, it’s a good main plot to make it a good episode.
Though the subplot felt kind of a bit rushed but there are some parts of it that make it somewhat enjoyable for me. Mostly with the scene with Gene having the green light to tickle chase Bob when waiting for the tickle scene. And also a nad touch of a callback with the pickle suit from Season 7 with them wearing them to film the video for Gloria and Al for their wedding anniversary but besides all else, the pacing seems a bit too fast when coinciding with the main plot of the episode leading up to the night of the lock-in and have it wrapped up in the credit gag once we switched over to Louise and Bob facing their fear of using the public bathroom. To sum it all up, a fast-paced subplot but it was okay. It was okay.
So final thoughts, a very good episode, most people are going to hate it mostly because of massive amounts of issues of how the episode came to be, with a very nice sentimental duration with Bob trying his best to help Louise out and Louise wanting to get through the barrier of fears of pooping in public but pretty much in a surprising note makes it a good episode with a subplot felt kind of rushed with a few enjoyable moments. So I’ll give “Poops!... I Didn’t Do It Again”...
An 8.5 out of 10. But that’s my opinion of the episode and I may probably going to have some hate over where I stand with this episode but...eh? That’s my beef, and now I want to hear yours.
