Well guys and gals, here we are, the last episode of the year that is 2019 but also the last episode of the 2010s decade...well actually, Steven Universe Future would be the one to close out the decade but that’s another story, and of course, it’s a Christmastime here in the burger fandom and nothing said celebrating the times in the most topical topic that has been chosen for this year’s holiday episode in the form of packaging. Would say online but you knew what the episode is saying with the mail but still...packaging. Mail!
In this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers, Linda works temporary over at the post office only to find out that a package that was supposed to be sent to a little boy was left behind and try to take matters to her own hands as Bob must suffer through a visit from in-laws in the form of Gayle and her and Linda’s parents and Louise and Gene go full on panic mode over not getting Tina a gift in the last possible minute in my spoilerific review of the Tenth Episode of Season 10, titled “Have Yourself a Maily Linda Christmas”.
Finally got a Christmas episode since Season 8 for the show since last year’s episode with “Better Off Sled” doesn’t feel like a Christmas episode. Sure, there are some themes to the holiday, one being Linda trying make some gifts for the kids in the form of scarves and opening it on Christmas morning to have a snowy atmosphere with the town under blankets of snow, yeah...that episode does NOT have that mood and feel nothing more than your usual episode. Well, a Winter episode to say the least...don’t know what’s the jury with Frosty the Snowman since it airs during Christmas but doesn’t feel like a Christmas special. Here enter the episode known as “Have Yourself a Maily Linda Christmas” and to be honest, this was a good episode. Somewhat enjoyable because while the episode felt kind of slow paced and almost skidded off the road like leaving the gas station after filling up your car and head on to the open road only to face with an issue with some icing but somehow, the car did not skidded and there were some good moments from not turning the episode into a complete wreck for the holiday season.
And you have to give Linda some credit where credit is due courtesy of her breaking the laws of mailing when noticing a package that was left behind after the last of the delivery trucks left to do their holiday delivery and the package was sent for a little boy waiting for his gift to dropped off was something that Linda has to do, even if it means breaking some rules, so you do have to cut her some slack. Same goes for Bob when dealing with Gayle and her parents when visiting though he had some help from Tina while Linda, Gene, and Louise are away to get the package to that little boy but for a moment there, I thought that the subplot felt kind of nowhere but...it was decent, gotta give it that. It was decent at best to sum up the whole thing from start to finish to close out the episode.
Kicking off the episode on Christmas Eve with Linda ready to head out to do her job over at the post office and sorting mail, mostly to get some extra cash into her pocket and whatnot. And of course, on the most busiest time of the year for the mailing industry with Linda now volunteering to do all the work in the form of sorting packages despite that she, alongside others, end up taking the position, which almost sounds like a cry for help to be in exact. Also in the cry for help territory, Bob. Apparently, the Belcher household is ready to host both Gayle and her and Linda’s parents, Gloria and Al, for the holidays. Which is something that Bob don’t want to do and want Linda to come straight home after her post is done because he don’t want to deal with them if she’s gone and all alone at a time like this. Linda thinks that they’re the three wisemen paying a visit for the holidays but instead of bringing gifts like gold and stuff for the newborn baby Jesus, apologies to the other religions, it’s hurtful comments and constant nagging from Gloria, a hack attack, not the computer kind but the body kind, courtesy of Al like he could ready to croak at...well any day, and Gayle...well she’s Gayle, what do you expect? But this one comes with Gayle lying to her parents that she somehow have a better life and such and not finding out that she’s an unemployed cat lady who uh...needs some help. So it looks like Bob can’t handle the pressure courtesy of them and requires Linda’s assistance once they arrive at the house later on in the episode.
Speaking of what’s about to go down in the episode, Tina. Announcing that she will be hosting a gift exchange between her, Gene, and Louise come Christmas Day where the three kids have to exchange their gifts under their allowance because yeah, money seems rather tight over at the household. But it looks like all eyes could be on both Gene and Louise come later on that would put them on red alert and must race the clock to find a certain someone a gift due to them half-assed their take for the upcoming event. Would say it almost sounds like the ol’ white elephant exchange where you have to entertain the partygoers rather than to gain a genuinely valuable or expansive item...actually, it really almost sounds like a white elephant exchange if you think about it.
Over at the Post Office with Linda in the holiday mood as she’s sorting out the mail and tells the guy next to her about the joys of delivering packages during the holidays like a group of Santas on wheels and dropping off their packages on their doorsteps and of course, a very topical topic we got here with this episode when it comes to both the holiday season and the delivery system because nowadays, people can shop for gifts over at online shops, whether being Amazon or eBay or stores that starting doing ordering online like Walmart with curbside pickup where you have to go to the store after placing your order and get you stuff and go. But when it comes to online shops like said Amazon or eBay where you place your order and wait for your package to arrive. Of course, with the holiday season, there are deadlines to do all that, think that date have now passed at the time of the episode’s airing. And have the delivery people from the post office to send it in despite that the old school mailing system of sending stuff through hand is slowly dying thanks to the internet and with the fear of automation now in talks with robots ready to take their jobs, the system is somehow dropping as it continues to rise. God, I hope Andrew Yang did not come up to read this part of the review over what I said about this. I don’t work for the post office but you kind of know where this is going when it comes to the mailing system and the digital world. Also shout out to the animation with Linda’s explanation of how the whole thing works, so props for the animators for that.
Out pops Linda’s boss, Donna, finding a Santa doll in her office and it’s courtesy of Linda as it was some sort of game that she has made up where if you find a Santa doll, you get a special prize in a form of a candy cane that happened to be chocolate flavored which...yeah not taste good. Of course, Donna here is probably not too big on Christmas, guess somebody has the case of the bah humbug. Well no, guess it may have something do to with the holidays and the post office being massively busy with the packages being shipped out. At least you don’t work at the airport during this time of year because with the long lines and Mother Nature decided to mess around, not to mention making sure the ride is safe from potential harm, yeah...might as well be pick your poison. Oh yeah and found out on how Linda got the job for Christmas...you can thank Mike the Mailman for handing her the position and might as well be on him if things go wrong.
Back at the Belcher household with Tina getting the wrappers out from the closet where we see Louise spotting her eldest sister getting ready to wrap her gifts, catching Tina off guard on what she’s doing with the wrappers and want to know what’s inside the bag. In which Tina try to dodge the question and telling her that hosting the first, and possibly only kid only gift exchange is pretty much a hassle and can’t take the pressure over everything she has planned. Like alright, take it easy. Though it’s Christmas Eve over there and you only got little time left to wrap the gifts up for Gene and Louise, just take it easy, remain focus, play that one hour calming music over at YouTube and you might be good to go. Though the person who may now need that music to calm down at a time like this, Louise.
Hopping down to Gene’s room in a private meeting between the two and interrupts Gene’s time in playing with his toes...I...really don’t want to know why Gene would be playing with his toes. God, is he that bored on a snowy and cold afternoon? Anyway, Louise alerts Gene about what Tina have in her tote bag for the upcoming gift exchange and Gene thinks that Tina probably got them bad gifts as a way to calm their nerves but apparently, looks like the scale has been risen up a bit after finding out from Louise that the gifts that Tina got is actually better. Louise remembers that there’s a vending machine over at the grocery store with a Burobu figure, Burobu of course is the franchise that Louise like with the trading cards back in Season 8, and there’s a particular figure that she wants from the machine but failed to get it. But Tina remembers and got it. And that was just Louise’s gift. And as for Gene’s gift for the holidays, a tub of sprinkles...pink sprinkles. And surprise, Tina got it in her arsenal and ready to wrap it up. Meaning that...yeah, things aren’t going well for Gene and Louise when it comes to finding Tina a gift for the holidays and the only gifts they can find is nothing more than a pack of barrettes for her hair. And it looks like the two siblings now have to find Tina the perfect gift in the last possible minute before night falls when the exchange begins and unless they can like...I don’t know, hold Jimmy Jr hostage, wraps him in a giant ass wrapper, and wait for Tina to open it come Christmas morning, then it looks like they’re now on the clock to find a good gift for Tina for the upcoming exchange.
Back at the post office with Linda continuing to sort the packages as her boss comes into the pictures and announces everyone, including Linda of course, that night has fallen and the post office is now closed for the holidays despite that Linda saw a man trying to get inside to drop off a package at the last possible minute for his seven-year-old nephew and thus, he got in courtesy of one of the workers and drops it off at the front office as all of the packages are now ready to be shipped off to everyone. And once the afterhours arrive with Linda cleaning up the place before heading out noticed that package that supposed to be shipped out for that little boy not shipped and alerts her boss about it. And...I don’t somewhat blame her when it comes to the packages because at times like this in the holiday season, you would noticed some packages where it can contain some...fecal matters. Though it’s mostly used to fend off porch pirates since it’s also the time of year when random people can sneak up and take your mail away just before you were heading out. And putting poop as a fake product that you order is the most used thing to do when dealing with those types of people. Linda want to take it to the boy in the address written on it but sadly can’t do that because it’s law and if that package didn’t make it to the plant, then it has to wait until the day after Christmas, or in some countries like Canada, Australia, and the what the fuck is wrong with you in the UK in the form of Boxing Day for the package to be picked up but it looks like Linda won’t take that lightly once Donna leaves and exits out with the package now in her purse and ready to take it to the plant to catch the truck before heading out.
Back at the household with Tina and Bob with Bob growing anxiously at a minute’s notice and fear that both Gayle and her parents are about to come at any given moments while peeling and cutting some carrots and decided to calm his nerves, well tried to, in the form of asking Tina what both Gene and Louise are doing right now with Tina replying to him that would be getting ready to wrap their gifts for the upcoming exchange. And speaking of that...
Both Gene and Louise tried to find some clues that Tina want for the holidays through her diary but no luck finding it. And her diary would be the place for anyone to get some ideas courtesy of Tina and would benefit the two for finding something that would save their asses from possibly hurting Tina for the holidays but sorry, no luck. Try again later.
That is until Linda dropped on by with her telling Bob that she’s heading out once again to the plant to take the package that she found that wasn’t delivered but Bob don’t want her to leave the house, putting him back into full on anxious mode, because Gayle and her parents could arrive at any moment and ready to create some problems enough for Bob to pretend go ostrich mode and hide into a hole. And speaking of heading out, Louise and Gene now tag along with Linda to get the package but Linda don’t want to because she’s in a hurry but with a power of hugs and convincing, looks like both Gene and Louise will be tagging along for the ride, only doing this to find Tina a gift for the last minute. In which during the car ride...yeah, Linda found out that both Gene and Louise have half-assed their chances to find Tina a gift and at the last possible minute but with Christmas Eve here and the sun now gone down, every store is closed. But it looks like we’ll wait and see once Linda’s task in getting the package to the plant is dealt with.
And as for Bob as he continues to peel the carrots as Tina continues to cut it into piece, hark the doorbell rang from the front and it looks like Bob’s nightmare before Christmas has arrived at the worst possible time with Linda’s absence to get the package to the plant.
Enter Gayle, Gloria, and Al for the holidays as Gayle want to send both of her parents over at her house as an option but want to keep on this lie of her living the good life and without both Gloria and Al from finding about what’s Gayle is really doing. You know that they’re going to find out sooner or later. Not like you’re ready to tell the truth in front of their graves once they croak. That wall is going to break sooner or later and they may be old but at least they could at least accept on what you’re doing. Oh yeah, and Al’s hack attack and Gloria’s hurtful comments decided to drop on by as well, meaning that this is going to be a very long night for Bob with Linda now out of the house. Kind of like with Pearl in the recent episode of Steven Universe, sorry, Steven Universe Future, spoilers BTW, hoping for Steven to come in when dealing with Onion. Save him.
Linda, alongside both Gene and Louise, finally arrive at the plant but before entering the place, got a phone call from Bob that Gayle and her parents have arrived at the house and really wants her to come home like now to deal with the whole thing and hoping to not go downhill. As in don’t bring up the so-called ottoman situation. What is the ottoman situation? We’ll wait and see later on in the review. Point is, if Gayle ends up bringing up that moment, Bob has to go and change it quickly and hoping to put tape on her mouth to make sure to never bring up that moment.
The three arrive goes inside the plant and witness the magic happening when all packages are being shipped off to the truck for the Christmas rush known as delivery as Linda head on down to the office with the boss of the plant busy doing work and storms in and telling him about the package being left behind and hoping to get it delivered on time for the holidays for the little boy. Except that the truck that they been looking for have already left. Oh jeez, I wonder if it’s the truck that just exit out from the plant as Linda was being called by a Bob in panic mode over Gayle and her family? Because if it is...Bob, I think this might be all on you if that little boy doesn’t get his gift before midnight. But much like what happened earlier in the evening over at the post office, gotta wait until the Day After Christmas for the package to be delivered and the package to be put into the bin for when that day arrives. And she would follow the protocol and put the package into the mail but instead, head out with the package in her hand and decided to play delivery person and get the package delivered for the little boy herself. And that of course, now gotten the attention of the head of the plant, who ends up calling Donna, who is occupied singing in choir over at church for Christmas service, calls Mike the Mailman to step up to the plate and make sure that Linda returns the package and he’ll begin to reason with her to stand down before making things worse as she is about to head down to her destination. Nothing say holiday package delivery like breaking the law to make a little boy happy. Kind of like if Santa were to enter a gated community that is somehow heavily secured and one foot into the area, release the hounds.
Back at the household where everything seems to be chill at the moment as Bob still getting things in order for the holiday meal and hoping for anyone of the members of Linda’s family don’t stirrup a Christmas Eve shitstorm. Just be thankful that Tina is here to make sure everything goes smooth once Linda comes back from going rouge with the package in her hands, otherwise it’s a dumpster fire burning without end. And if you think the whole Gloria hurtful comments and Al’s hack attack isn’t enough for Bob to deal with while Linda was out of the house, here enter Gayle ready to bring out the card known as the ottoman situation and put onto the table. Which is the last thing that Bob want to deal with and that’s the event that Gayle would never let that go and he does have to remember what Linda said if the ottoman situation were to be brought up: change the subject. Which is what Bob did in the form of singing some Christmas songs. And this would put everything at peace at the moment...for now at least because it looks like this isn’t going to last well. Much like fixing a pipe with some tape and think that things would be fine only for more water to come out enough to cause a mini flood. Don’t lie, we all done that before.
As Linda and the kids head on down to get the package to that little boy’s home, she gets a phone call form Mike with him telling her to stand down, turn the car around, and hand the package over. Not for him to deliver, but to return it to the plant and ready to be shipped off the Day After Christmas and can’t say no because the package is a priority express package and it’s law for her to return if she were to go rouge. It’s almost like when you’re getting a new job, even if it’s temporary like working for the summer, you were given an oath to not break any rules and not give away any secrets that could harm them in the near future. Now I don’t know anything about the mail business as a whole, but everyone now think that Linda is pretty much breaking the law and doesn’t have a choice but to return it. And Mike tries to reason with her to trap her with the ol’ “I used to be like you” excuse and that he likes being a mailman on Christmas, pretending like he’s Santa and deliver the packages to everyone, much like what Linda described earlier in the episode of how the whole thing works for the holiday season but then decided to take his job seriously as time flies by, no matter what kind of item is inside the package...poop. I-it’s poop. Poop to fend off the porch pirates. Point is, Mike wants Linda to just surrender the package. But knowing Linda, she ain’t going to do that and pretends that she’s dealing with an issue with her signal of her phone and end the call. And that’s where the gloves now begin to come off with Mike ready to step out and take matters into her own hands and leaves behind his wife? Girlfriend? Partner? Leaving someone behind to do an emergency job of getting Linda to hand over the package.
Back at the household with the caroling of the songs now all wrapped with Bob hoping for the whole thing between Gayle and her parents to calm down and get through the whole thing. Silly Bob, that ain’t going to happen because even during the holiday, the Animation Gods are cruel and merciless bastards and decided to ruin anyone’s day. And that would go to Gayle, after listening to Bob and Tina doing a duet of Christmas song, pulled out the ottoman situation card and thus, the shitstorm have formed with Gloria hoping for Gayle to just let it go already but Gayle don’t want that and pretty much putting the blame on both her parents for what really happened. Who knew that a piece of furniture can tear a family apart during the holiday, next to of course...politics. And since next year, 2020, is an election year here in the states...remember that SNL sketch back in 2015 when the family is arguing over a lot of stuff over at the dinner table and the only thing that would create a ceasefire is Adele’s “Hello” from the radio. Might as well need that for next year. Might as well be Bob’s thing in hopes to get a ceasefire going between Gayle and her parents. But instead, we have shitstorm between both Gayle and her parents. This is pretty much Bob once the ottoman situation gotten out of his hand and unable to change the subject.
Yep, that pretty much sums what happens when things have gotten way out of hand enough for Bob to exit stage left to the bathroom, and possibly cry over, with Tina staying behind in the kitchen and trying to change the subject herself, but of course...failed to do so.
Switching back to Linda, Gene, and Louise with the package with them after failing to find a store open around this time for the two siblings to find Tina a last minute gift for the upcoming gift exchange with Linda ready to knock on the door and about to give a little boy living in the house his gift, that was until Mike comes in from behind...just parked on the curb and got them cornered just as they are about to head on over to the steps. Asking her to just hand over the package so he can send it back to the plant but Linda won’t let that happen and want to give it to the boy whether he likes it or not and try to reason with him, despite that while she’s doing that, both Gene and Louise spotted the boy now standing in his doorstep and witness both Linda and Mike battling it out over his package, but since the package is here right in front of him, guess it’s time to give it to him...is what Linda would do except that she’s not carrier despite having the package in her purse throughout the episode and took matters into her own hands and would do the honors of finishing the job all together but again, she’s not the carrier in all of this and instead decided to give the honors to Mike to do the right...by taking the mail back...in front of the kid...on Christmas Eve of all the days of the year...and you do that?! Like what the fuck man?! I know you have a job to do and you have to follow the law when it comes to whole mailing thing but like that?! We’re gonna end 2019 with a kid’s spirit being broken just because of some stupid protocol? Like what the fuck man?! What the actual...it’s heartless. It’s fucking heartless and straight up...
And he decided to give the package to the kid and needs a signature for him to have it. Huh. Well alright then, crisis averted then and might as well take everything back on what I said when it comes to taking the package back. Mike decided to break the rule just for tonight and give the kid his package because it’s the holiday. Though since Linda, and now Mike, broke the protocol when it comes to the whole thing, you think that they would end up being penalized for that. Probably having the check being deducted by a few dollars or possible suspension, even though Linda is only there as a temp for the holidays, or possibly either a month long community service or possibly 30 days behind bars. The US Government could be coming for blood now because of what happened and let’s just say...they ain’t gonna get out that easy. And it looks like 2020 isn’t going to be good year for you two.
Wrapping up the Linda side of the episode with Louise and Gene of course, still trying to find a gift at the last possible minute for Tina for the gift exchange with Louise eying on the presents under the tree in that boy’s home and hoping if the family can hand one over to Louise for Tina but it looks like that ain’t happening it looks like both Gene and Louise will be going home empty handed. Would say Linda but I feel like her present for this holiday season might be the government breathing behind her neck for tempering with the boy’s package. So that seems about that to wrap up the whole charade with the package now no longer left behind.
And now we get to Bob, now hiding in the bathroom as Gayle and her parents fight over the whole ottoman situation, with Tina at the door and asks her father to step out and deal with this mess in hopes to put it behind everyone and try to do the opposite of what Linda said when dealing the type of problems like this one. Linda say don’t talk about the ottoman situation, now Tina want Bob to just talk about and let it out if they want to put it aside so that he can get his peace for the holidays. And so he does that, almost ready to head out but with Tina on his side, it’s time to play family counselor and get the whole thing out of the way.
So the ottoman situation has nothing to do with the now no longer existing Ottoman Empire but in the form of a piece of furniture and it began with what happened last Christmas when Gayle decided to drop on by to visit her parents’ condo down in Florida, of course, still doesn’t know about what Gayle is really doing in her life. You know that once this whole thing is over with when it comes to the ottoman, Gayle’s life might as well be the next thing to be argued with. Anyway, she dropped on by to pay a visit for the holidays and had a fun idea planned when her and Linda’s cousin Donnie dropped on in by hiding inside the ottoman as a surprise like cutting the cake on your bachelor party the day before your wedding and reveals to be a...you know where this is going. Gayle hides herself into the ottoman and waits for her cousin to drop on by but little does she know that hours had passed since she hid herself and fell asleep until she woke up from a noise from outside and was about to pop out from the furniture like it’s a jack in the box but unable to do because the presents are heavy enough to not get Gayle to exit out from the ottoman and tried to scream out to get Gloria and Al’s attention but their hearing got bad as they get old and leave to watch a movie without her. Being trapped inside the ottoman for hours on end and making her smell like day of sandals with a pair of sandals next to her. And this is Florida after all, so it’s not going to be too much of a surprise if there’s a news headline describing the situation that Gayle is dealing with when being trapped in the ottoman.
Florida woman traps herself in ottoman, smells like stinky sandals. It was not a pleasant moment for Gayle and Gloria didn’t think that what Gayle said was serious about it...then again, this is Gayle we’re talking about. But it looks like this pretty much haunt Gayle for like the rest of her life, being melodramatic over the whole thing with Gloria thinking that she’s being way too overdramatic over the whole mess. Might as well turning this into the ol’ she said...she said argument on who’s right and who’s wrong like they’re begging on the listener, being Bob, to take a side. But rather than turning the final minutes of the episode of turning this whole argument into it’s an episode of...probably either Jerry Springer or Dr. Phil, minus the whole whatever element shows use to attract the viewers, might as well make a normal family therapy session...
Moments later once Linda, Gene, and Louise arrive back home after delivering the package sees both Gayle and her parents getting along just as Christmas Eve is about to turn into Christmas Day. Which surprises Linda on how Bob is capable to overcome everything to get these three to get along. And it’s the overused trope of being together for the holidays and that having an argument isn’t the way to go. That and he has to go to his bedroom and phone the kitchen and pretends to be the bank, telling her to put it on speakerphone, and something about having too much money and it would create a fire hazard. Point is, Bob finally have a cease fire between Gayle and her parents, which will only last for the holidays before ending up bringing it back.
And as for the kids as the exchange takes place with Gene gotten his pink sprinkles and Louise gotten her figure from Tina and speaking of Tina, the gift that Louise and Gene gotten for her for the holidays...a paper crane. A paper crane as a gift...man, Linda was right, they really did half-assed it when it comes to trying to find Tina a gift at the last possible minute. But that’s not the only gift that the two can muster up for the eldest sibling of the Belcher family.
Look guys...hugs! Nothing wrong with that. A hug for the holidays is something that Tina should probably take from both Gene and Louise and of course, it’s nice. Glad we have that. Not to mention of course, the apology for not trying enough to find her a gift and of course, Tina forgives them for that and...still hoping for another gift in tow, which causes Gene to bring out a barrette from his pockets to close out the episode of the variety that is the year of 2019.
Reaction/Thoughts:
So all and all, what do I think about this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers? Well to be honest here, this was a pretty enjoyable episode to watch for the holidays and somewhat of an apology letter from the people behind the show for what happened last year’s Christmas episode that doesn’t feel like your run of the mill Christmas episode. And it has to tackle the idea of holiday packaging and Linda going all out to get the package delivered after noticing that it was left behind despite that the mail people want her to stand down and wait until the Day After Christmas to get the package to the little boy but not Linda, decided to take matters into her own hands and break a few laws to get her way to do so during the holiday season.
And I have to give Linda some credit when it comes to the determination of trying to get the package to the little boy from the uncle and after missing the truck, not once, but twice, in one night, decided to take matters into her own hands, break some few laws that could possibly put her in massive hot water with the US Federal Government but you really don’t want to have a sad kid for the holidays than follow some law with a package being left behind, we here over at yahoo201027 HQ does NOT condone anyone to break any laws in the making of this review, and it appeared that Linda doesn’t even have a choice in the making and have to make the right choice for the holiday season.
That little subplot of Gene and Louise tried to find a gift at the last minute for Tina seems really, really, really short for this episode as the subplot has to merge with the main plot with Linda trying to get the package to the little boy and sensing an opportunity for them to find a store that is open after hours to find her a gift but no luck. Even thinking about getting one of the presents from the little boy’s home after the package was delivered but failed, thus having Tina getting both an origami piece of a crane and a hug and also a piece of barrette from Gene’s pocket and I would say this should’ve deserve more time to deal with this but I feel like this has to be move the writers have to make to save for time.
And the subplot of Bob and Tina dealing with Gayle and her parents, almost felt like it was going nowhere, mostly around the idea of Bob trying to keep the peace between the three in hopes to not escalate tensions during the holiday visit and he did that to keep the peace and create a ceasefire, all thanks to Tina on his side by telling him to do the opposite of what Linda said when it comes to bringing up the topic of the ottoman situation with her saying that it cannot to be brought up but Bob has to if they want to put that aside so that they can celebrate the Christmas season. So Bob might get some credit when it comes to trying to keep everything calm despite the visit with Gloria and her comments like Bob doesn’t take criticism well, Al having a hack attack, and Gayle trying to mention the ottoman situation to heat tensions up like lighting a candle but using a flamethrower to light it up despite setting the house on fire. But just thankful that they got the peace that everyone, mostly Bob, want for the holidays before the topic ends up being brought up again and cause even more problems. Even though Gayle’s lies of having a perfect life...yeah, I feel like this little charade might as well be the next thing to be brought up because we already seen what Gayle’s lifestyle is at since her debut back in Season 1 and I feel like the cracks on the wall are ready to open and cause it to collapse...though knowing the show being a sitcom, I doubt that they’ll ever bring this up in the future.
So final thoughts on the episode as a whole, this was an enjoyable episode. Sure there were some flaws, mostly when it comes to the subplot with Bob dealing with Linda’s family and felt like it was almost felt like it was going nowhere but at least he got his peace for the holidays...for now at least while the other one with Gene and Louise tried to find a gift for Tina for the gift exchange was seems rather short and have to merge it with the main plot with Linda and the package. But if it’s for time saving purposes, then...might as well take it but feel like this should’ve been getting some time added in. So I’ll give “Have Yourself a Maily Linda Christmas”...
An 8 out of 10. And that’ll do it for this week’s episode, the last episode of 2019 and not to mention of course, the last episode of the 2010s decade. Onto 2020 we go with a new episode on January 5 with Louise saving Gene’s honor after getting kicked out as Bob now feels what Gene felt back in Season 9 with the person he knows best ditching him to work for the enemy in the eleventh episode of Season 10 in “Drumforgiven”.
