Bob's Burgers Season 10, Episode 7 Review - Ice of the Party (with Icy Conditions) | yahoo201027's Bob's Burgers Reviews

So apparently, not even the Bob’s Burgers universe is safe from the cold wave that we been suffering for the past week in this episode that pretty much turned the Seymour’s Bay area into Seattle in just an episode in the hands of the writers to the point where we can pretty much blame Elsa for using her powers now that Frozen 2 is right around the corner.

In this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers, Bob and Linda attend a loft party in an icy, cold, and rainy night after being invited by a couple as the Kids and their babysitter Jen take a joyride on an ice cream truck only to deal with the harsh conditions of mother nature in my spoilerific review of the seventh episode of Season 10, titled “Land of the Loft”.

The ”Land of the Loft” episode...it’s an episode about a loft. Okay, gotta keep it a 100 here for everyone, this was pretty much a bland episode in my taste. Sure, there were some moments that pretty much made it somewhat decent from the return of a character that we haven’t seen in a really long time in Jen the babysitter to spotting that Ms. LaBonz of all people is in the club and having a time of her life. But other than that, the two that I mention...it was a very bland episode and might as well be as forgettable as possible. Not in the line of “Boys Just Wanna Have Fun” but could be leaning towards in the lines of “Lorenzo’s Oil” back last season. Might as well get this episode over with as what could a very long review and breakdown of the episode. Grab the liquor.

On a cold and rainy day over at the Restaurant, setting up the mood for what could be a very long episode to get over with, where we have Bob and Linda getting things ready for an important visit in the form of two people that Bob and Linda has just met in the form of both names revealed to be Maya and Becket and that is something that Bob and Linda found another couple to be friends with. However, if you’re Teddy...jealously. Haven’t seen that since Season 6 when Bob was inviting a new friend...think his name was...Stan? Stu? Steve? Steve, that’s his name! Steve, the guy who Teddy felt jelly over Bob finding a new friend and now it’s back again and this time, it’s Bob and Linda who found new friends. Don’t know if whenever Bob and/or Linda brought up a new friend, he ends up feel threaten like whether he doesn’t like competition and fear that he might be replaced or fears of forgotten and think that like getting a new toy, you have no choice but to get rid of the old one. Like with the first Toy Story movie at the beginning with Andy being all in with Woody but then Buzz comes in and a change has to be made. You know that meme. You know it.

The two people named Maya and Becket enter the restaurant in winter gear and ready to pick up their order despite that Maya might have a current craving for fried clams but Becket would never like betray and would enjoy one of Bob’s burgers, consider this a title drop here in the review, which of course made Teddy cringe. But before heading out back to the their home, they decided to ask what Bob and Linda are doing for the night, in which Linda reply that they would stay at home and watch some British drama on TV like it’s a Sunday Night and watch Downton Abbey for anyone who don’t have plans either you just don’t feel like making plans, don’t want to miss what happens next, or feel like deciding to sit alone in the dark while eating a scoop of rocky road ice cream and hoping for one day that the sun would come in and incinerate us all. Yeah...don’t know where that come from. Anyway, Maya and Becket tells Bob and Linda that if they’re bored for the night, they should hop on by at their home as they are throwing a little party. Though looking at the conditions right now, yeah...not so good perfect conditions to have a night out unless you have somewhat of a death wish. With rain and the cold air, you would have trouble on your hands but they consider this an open invite, being that they have a choice whether to head on down to the party or stay at home and decided to not head out.

Onto the night with Bob and Linda sitting on the couch, ready to watch their shows on TV, as the kids come in despite that they were supposed to get ready to go to sleep invented a new game called Throw Louise, which is like basketball except one player is the hoop and Louise is the basketball. That of course knocked Gene out and that’s not the only thing, being person or object, that been knocked down. Gene’s fall caused the table to rock and thus knocking Linda’s wine glass down with the wine spilled over, thus sending the kids to get ready to go to sleep.

Bob and Linda begins to watch their show after the kids went off and Linda cleaning the spill with a rag and tries to drink the spilled wine from the now wet yet dirty rag, which gross by the way, only to get bored in the first few minutes. That’s like with people when trying to watch a new show that people think that it’s the hottest thing of the season only to exceeded expectations. Linda turned off the TV and asks Bob that he want to do something for the night, in which Bob doesn’t know what Linda is implying when she said that they should have some fun and the fun that what you’re thinking. They’re doing that when the kids aren’t in the house. No, Linda tells Bob to attend the party that both Maya and Becket are hosting and throwing since this is an open invite and they were given some thought about all of them when it comes to attending the event. And with that, Bob agrees and thus they’re ready to head out except for one problem, the kids need a sitter for the night and Tina would’ve been the first choice since she pretty much have the capabilities...that does not include taking on someone like Louise, but due to the straight that it’s late at night and Tina has to go to sleep as well, that leaves the second option when it comes to who can babysit the kids for the rest of the night and it’s the return of an old face that we haven’t seen since Season 4, five long years since we last saw her...

It’s Jen. Jen’s back after a five year wait over at purgatory known as the infinite waiting room where all characters in all fandoms come when they’re all waiting for their time to come. So Linda calls Jen if she can watch over the kids as they head out for the night to attend Maya and Becket’s party and of course, Jen agrees to babysit as she was busy...playing hungry, hungry hippos...by herself. She’s in her 20s according to the wikia, don’t know if she’s like a college student or not, but uh...yeah...this is like...sad. This is pretty much sad to see here with her return to the show. Just putting it out there, Jen here...need to find a special someone in her life, man or woman, doesn’t matter, it’s 2019 almost 2020, think it’s time for Jen to find a special someone.

Now of course that the final minutes of the episode diverge both the main plot with Bob and Linda attending the party and the Kids and Jen ensue in some hijinks in a cold and icy night, so it looks like the main plot will go first with Bob and Linda attending the loft party that they might soon regret over making that decision.

Starting off with Bob and Linda on their way to the party on a cold and rainy night with Linda all excited over both her and Bob attending a party hosting by two people and just as they’re about to make it there, Linda is in need of a bathroom break, so Bob decided to stop at the gas station for Linda to take a number two because you don’t want to embarrass yourself at the party with everyone in the room and then all of a sudden...poop. So they make a quick pit stop at the gas station bathroom, the most unsanitary bathroom in the world, unless you go find a Buc-ee’s in Texas. No paid advertisement.

Bob and Linda finally arrived in front of the home of Maya and Becket, still cold and rainy, and of course, before deciding to head on in unless they want to go home in soon to be horrible conditions due to the mixture of rain and really frigid air, she has to check on what the kids are doing and see if they’re okay. In which Bob gives a quick reply and say that the kids are sleeping and that nothing is wrong over there under Jen’s watch. Despite not knowing that miles away from them, the Kids forced Jen to go on a joyride, in their pajamas, in the open cold in an ice cream truck. Yeah, I’m sure they’re sleeping in the comfort of their beds. Bob and Linda done all that and head on inside the loft of the couple and lo and behold...

It's pretty much a studio apartment rather than your usual apartment. It’s more roomy than your usual apartments and I don’t know what the budget for these two to rent the damn place or having to host a party with like tens of people in attendance when the art salary, but hey...studio apartment, it maybe roomy for anyone who can either live the big life or not a big fan of claustrophobia but it can be privacy’s worst nightmare. No separate rooms. And even if there is a separate room, no doors. Windows are wide all the way near the ceiling. Yeah...I think should probably think to stick to an actual apartment despite fears of rent being raised or a single accident from your neighbors might cause your place to burn down even though the fire didn’t start at your place.

Both Bob and Linda decided to have a fun of their lives from Linda having some fun with communicating with some partygoers, you know, trying to have some small talk like in your usual parties and not trying to embarrass yourself as Bob talks to Becket over at the bar booth and lo and behold, found out that Becket can brew his own whiskey and at 49 years of age despite that Bob is somewhat younger than him in around 45 I think, 49 years of age and made your own whiskey and Teddy is like what? In his 50s? And brew his own beer back in Season 5? Jack Daniels is pretty much going to have some competition when it comes to that. So do other whiskey companies overseas, don’t know if that’s a thing over there. If you’re an international reader, feel free to make me sound like an idiot. But other than, it looks like both Bob and Linda are having a time of their lives...for a few moments before deciding to head out to go home despite that due to the fact that they’re drinking whiskey, which contains alcohol, apparently driving in their car seems like a dangerous idea and would get a taxi instead, due to the fact it’s them saying that when it comes to which one of the two couples, being Bob and Linda or Maya and Becket, to see who is the coolest couple, Bob and Linda think that they’re being outcooled by the two and ready to head out.

And so they did try to do so as the two talked it out and ready to sneak out, grabbing their coats, and ready to open the door but got stopped by the two in time for the talent portion of the event and Linda just ending up one upping herself in front of everyone in a lie and think that her and Bob can do singing impressions. Like what happened with Louise last week with her one upping herself didn’t happen. Apparently, the lies have now caught into Linda, so uh thanks for that Louise. Even though you apologized for everything last week, it looks like you may have inflicted into her, even though she done it first with the firehouse visit.

From a random guy showing off his accordion skills like he’s Weird Al Yankovic to a woman showing off her painting skills, which should’ve been the perfect time for Bob and Linda to escape, only to find out that she can paint a portrait while holding her breath which I give her props for that and with the clock ticking despite that when it comes to all things art, it takes time for all of that. But above all else, it’s a surprising talent and you have to give her props for that. And then of course, we got Bob and Linda and it’s their turn next and...

Yeah...pretty much embarrassed themselves in front of everyone when trying to do the singing impressions that Linda came up with. I mean like if this were like, well not in the line of American Idol, but more in the line of America’s Got Talent...yeah Bob and Linda would most likely going to be eliminated in the first round. Actually, not even the first round. Possibly not going to make it pass the auditions. But yeah...things might not be going well for both Bob and Linda in the party and they now need something to save themselves from possible embarrassment and thus enter a voice mail message from Jen that her and the kids are trapped on an icy road, Channel Street, and Bob knows where the street is at and though they are saved from being the butts of the party, parental duty calls and thus heading out to save the kids and Jen from freezing themselves to death in a truck with no heater. Mostly because it’s an ice cream truck and if there’s a heater, then the ice cream melts. And now you know why you don’t see ice cream trucks roaming around during the cold months.

Rather than taking the car due to taking one too many drinks, both Bob and Linda walk down the sidewalk, or rather try not to fall when sliding through the sidewalk now covered in ice thanks to the cold air and the rain causing the concrete to freeze over. And if checked the weather forecast earlier if you look closer and with the icy sidewalk in tow, yeah it looks like black ice might in play once the episode is over with. Anyway, Bob and Linda are in a hurry in the frozen air conditions with the sidewalk now frozen thanks to the rain without slipping despite not knowing that while they’re doing that, Jen and the Kids are out from the truck and not noticed where they are going and it looks like Bob and Linda aren’t the only ones who are out and about to find them because look who decided to drop by?

The hosts of the party in Maya and Becket. Left their party that they are hosting to trying to help out Bob and Linda to find both Jen and the Kids but also wanting to apologize for pressuring them into performing and pretty much have both of them embarrassing themselves and think that they’re responsible for that even though it’s Linda who pretty much did that due to immense pressure but both Maya and Becket want to apologize for that but before accepting that, they got another message from Jen that they are now at a safe and warm place in the form of a place in which we’ll get to that later on as we now see how the kids and Jen ended up to where the end of the episode is at.

So while Bob and Linda are out over at Maya and Becket’s place for the party, the kids turned off the TV with Jen ordering them to head on down to sleep and just as they are about to head on down to their separate rooms, Louise spotting unusual outside of their home in the form of an ice cream truck parked on their side of the street. Which revealed that how Jen came in when it comes to transportation and not like teleport her way in the writer’s choosing like she’s doing Instant Transmission from Dragon Ball. But yeah, she made it in through an ice cream truck but apparently, it does not belong to her but instead it belongs to her cousin. And since it was revealed that she has a lot of cousins in her family, it belongs to the hot cousin. Of course, hot cousin, a guy, wakes up Tina’s boy-dar, but we’re talking about that as we’re talking about ice cream trucks. And of course, since this is the Belcher kids, they want to go inside the ice cream truck despite that it’s really cold outside and already late at night but of course, like always when it comes to dealing with Jen, whether if it’s attending the dance back in “Two for Tina” to see the drama unfolding between Josh and Jimmy Jr or seeing Linda’s high school reunion and possibly watch their mom possibly embarrassing herself, when it comes to which babysitter is capable in dealing with the Belcher kids, mostly Gene and Louise, while we all know that Tina is the most gullible person in the family even though she did dealt with someone who happened to be a serial crotch kicker enough for any NFL team to ready to draft her in free agency, looking at you Bears and maybe Titans, Jen...where do I begin with this? Needs improvement. Let’s just put that out there. Needs improvement.

Once inside the ice cream truck, the kids explore the vehicle with Jen on the driver’s seat and if you think that they’re going to get some ice cream out of the truck like it’s a robbery? Sadly, that ain’t happening due to the fact that: A) it’s cold outside enough to not have ice cream even though according to a website from a company behind those somewhat creepy commercials you see on YouTube called Little Baby’s Ice Cream, you can. Something about heating the body or something, I’m not a health inspector. And B) I think they have to take the tubes and stuff from the cooler so that they don’t like melt or something like then when turning the truck off. The kids felt disappointed over that but there is a silver lining over it because they get to mess around the truck’s CB radio, so hey...despite that ice cream is absent from the truck, playing around with the radio has to be something for them to play around when there’s nothing to do, just don’t do it when it comes to either an 18-wheeler or a police car. And we here over at yahoo201027 condone everyone from doing that. So once that is done, for now, here enter Tina requesting for a drive out around town in the truck even though Jen is against that and want to send the kids to bed but thanks to intense pressure from her, calling her out with the first time babysitting card like she doesn’t even know how to do her job, which you think that Jen would like call her out since she’s the grown up in the house and not her, took it all in and agrees to drive them around. Not like someone like let’s say one being named Mommy Nature decided to bite her right in the ass on why driving around on the ice cream truck in middle of a freezing rain event is not a good idea.

The kids and Jen, still on the truck, still on the truck in a slow ride through the town at night with Louise just wrapping her session with the CB radio as they are about to be approached towards a red light and once Jen hits the breaks, the truck kept going and unable to stop, noticing that during the ride, the rain stopped but now cause a massive problem for them because it looks like the road is now frozen shut and thus cause them to swerve from one road, their main road, to another which happens to be Channel Street and crashed onto a nearby curb on the street. Good news is that no one is hurt during that whole thing but the bad news is that they’re now stuck thanks to the ice and with no heater in the truck because it is an ice cream truck, they’re now going to suffer in the freezing cold air flowing through.

And normally whenever there’s a like a problem and you’re feeling massive chills on your body thanks to the harsh conditions of the wintertime, or near wintertime, you would think that you would think it’s time for you to crank the heater to sauna except that because they’re in an ice cream truck, heaters aren’t a thing. And to make things worse, it’s only 11:30 and Bob and Linda could be home in less than thirty minutes, unless they decided to leave already but got caught through the lie that Linda created, and with no help on standby and no heater and miles away from their house, to buy some time to combine body heat, they have to snuggle up if they don’t want to catch either a cold or hypothermia...which the huddle lasted for a little while, and it’s may or may not have something to do with Gene’s uncontrollable farts when getting some warmth.

With no help called and with the kids and Jen about to freeze themselves to death inside a no heater of an ice cream truck, Jen has to call Bob and Linda about the current situation and hoping for a rescue but unfortunately unable to get to them and can only get voice mail. Which seems like a total loss and head back towards cuddling for warmth even though it’s not a total loss because once Bob and Linda pretty much embarrassed themselves in front of every partygoer in Maya and Becket’s place, they got the message and stormed out to find them. Except that...

The kids and Jen are now out from the truck and sliding through the frozen sidewalk as they now in need in getting some help and some warmth and it looks like they are now going to find Jen’s cousin, the hot one, in some assistance, warmth, and alert Bob and Linda where they are at and the place where her cousin works at, because it’s really late at night and although that almost all of the places are closed for the night, there has to be one place that is still open to the public. And thus...

Pickles. Yep, Pickles. The all-female place where they watch the men in performance do a strip performance like it’s Magic Mike or Magic Mike XXL, surprise that it even gotten a sequel, but it looks like they have no other choice. Plus Jen’s cousin work there so enter Pickles they go. Jen, this is pretty much going against you when it comes to stuff like this. So they enter Pickles to find Jen’s hot cousin, getting through the bouncer, in which he didn’t even bother to stop Jen from the fact that she has Tina, Gene, and Louise with her, and try to find him through various men in different first responder outfits from sexy fireman to sexy doctor and of course, sexy police officer in which Tina comes up and knowing Tina, attracted to hot guys and this is coming from someone who like being around an entire baseball team and became an assistant. They found Jen’s cousin and...

Ladies (and some men), heard he’s available. So Jen’s cousin walked up to him while dressing up as an airline pilot with the sleeves ripped off and exposing them pecks and Jen requests him to call Bob and Linda where they are at as well as getting them something to warm up following countless moments being out in the freezing cold and without massive hesitation, he agrees and takes them to the back office and once they do that...this is a surprise...

We spot Ms. LaBonz in attendance. Waving a dollar bill while holding a drink in her hand hoping for the show to get started. I mean...think it’s pretty much there for cheap laughs and all but since the genre of the show is comedy, what do you expect was going to happen? You expect like a giant mole to pop up, not to terrorize yards and cause problems, but instead hop on by to a night club and enjoy a time of their life? Yeah, I don’t think so. You leave Mole Joan out of it, alright. Okay then.

Bob and Linda finally made it to the back office of Pickles with the kids, Jen, and Jen’s cousin in attendance and glad that they’re safe and sound and warm but of course, in trouble over disobeying their orders, not in their beds, and go a joyride across town even though Bob is almost getting distracted by enjoying the taste of a pickle from a jar. Not to mention of course, putting Jen in hot water over what she has done that caused where we are at even though that was all the kids that have done because of the pressure. What do you expect, she may not be built for someone like the Belcher kids like a teacher who got hired to teach a rowdy sixth grade class in English. But the kids end up come in Jen’s defense that although she has made some mistakes, courtesy of the Belcher kids and their usual hijinks, but they should lay off on the girl and just let continue what she is doing. Even though what went down from the ice cream truck ride in the cold to dealing with the very cold air enough for them enough for them to ending up at Pickles and required assistance from Jen’s hot cousin, it looks like Jen will be off the hook thanks to the kids. But the kids, yeah...in big trouble following what had happened with the whole thing. Jen is now out of hot water but the kids, yeah it looks like trouble town for them.

Maya and Becket met up with Bob and Linda and of course, apologize over what happened with the whole party and also turned out that what the Belchers did with what just unfolded in the duration of the episode is pretty much than theirs. Which really it doesn’t feel like a competition to see who has it better when it comes to...well, pretty much everything. Sure, Maya and Becket has a sweet rockin’ pad that they in with an artist’s salary but when it comes to the events, whether good or bad, someway, somehow, the Belchers are the ones who ended up make it out whenever a situation popped out like a rabbit coming out from it’s hole, for better or for worse. Point is, apology accepted and now Maya and Becket should have dinner like a double date around next week but Bob and Linda, following what just happened, would rather take a rain check instead. And the two would head back home but because of the conditions outside, they have to wait it out as the episode ends with everyone sticking around at Pickles as it looks like they’re celebrating a birthday of a special someone. And that special someone...yep, it’s Ms. LaBonz. No, not really though. Because it said someone has just turned 21 years of age, but it doesn’t stop LaBonz from having a time of her life...so there’s that. Bob’s Burgers After Dark, yeah put the kids to sleep and have you and that special someone to hang around and watch it after midnight. I’m so getting demonetized.

Reaction/Thoughts:

So all and all, what do I think about this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers? Well...this was a rather bland episode for my taste. Mostly coming from both plots of the episode. Not saying in the line of a rehash or something of with the likes of let’s say either “Lorenzo’s Oil” or with “Boys Just Wanna Have Fungus” because this episode might as well be as forgettable with the rewatchability factor now on par with this episode if you want to get in scope with this one.

Would say it was fine that both Bob and Linda found some people who happened to be a couple in the form of Maya and Becket, but they seem rather bland in their introduction episode. I mean sure, they own a huge ass space of a loft and them being artsy and like all things in the art section but yeah...their introduction seems rather bland and it looks like with other characters in the past with the exception of some are not expected to come back. If they were to come back to the show, I want to expect more of them and build up their character and whatnot but since I have no power over everyone, that won’t be the case, now would it?

Jen’s return to the show. Yes, it has been a really long time since we last saw her back in Season 4 when she was visiting France with her family, and not doing to because she don’t want to deal with another gig taking on the Belcher kids, but...here’s my take on her as a whole courtesy of this episode and episodes she appeared in the past since her introduction back in Season 3, she may not be the “best” babysitter mostly because when you’re dealing with the Belcher kids, even if Tina is not the babysitter in charge, it can be a challenge. Mostly because it may or may not have something to do with someone *cough* Louise *cough* you’re pretty much lost all control. Of course, by the end of the day, knowing the Belcher kids, yeah...it’s Jen who would live to see another day despite that the kids are in trouble for what has happened in this episode. All in point, Jen may need some improvement and seeing her playing hungry, hungry hippos alone...I think she may need to find someone very soon.

So final thoughts when it comes to episode is well...might as well give it a rewatch if you end up getting lost when seeing it for the first time as it looks like both plots seems pretty much straight forward but almost felt like it went nowhere, like it felt empty for some reason like it’s missing something. Don’t know what it is? Whether if it’s the direction or the execution or possibly the pacing. So for now, it’s straight forward but bland and empty for this week’s episode. So I’ll be giving this one, “Land of the Loft”, controversial statement from this one...cue the hate...

...a 6 out of 10. Sucky pill to swallow but the rewatch is there, so good luck proving me wrong. But that’s just my opinion, and now I want hear yours. What do you think about this week’s episode? Do you like it? Do you hate it? What’s your thoughts on Maya and Becket? Are you glad or something like that over Jen’s return? All that and your mini review in the comments down below!
