This week, we party like it’s 2015. Remember that year? Yeah, I was in my prime when that happened. You know...before the dark times. Before the whole shitshow that was 2016. Yeah, that wasn’t a pleasant time...for everyone. But hey, we’re gonna treat this like it’s 2015 and nothing said that like having two characters that we haven’t seen in a really long time since the end of Season 5 in the form of Hawk and Chick.

And that it of course, sums up this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers where Louise set up a movie screening of the director’s cut of her and Bob’s favorite movie, only to fall apart with the actor of the movie begins to feel uncomfortable over the said film in my spoilerific review of the sixth episode of Season 10, titled “The Hawkening: Look Who’s Hawking Now”.

It’s so looong! Since we last see these two characters since 2015. It’s the return of Hawk and Chick for this week’s episode and this was an interesting one to say the least. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy this episode. I think that the ending of the episode with Louise and Rudy was something and also cute to top it all of that. And the whole thing, the whole conspiracy over a scene being cut, thus having Kojima in full on panic mode and take the film away seems rather interesting and also intriguing, this doesn’t feel like what happened with the first time we met these two. Sure, the emotion is somewhat there with Louise apologizing about lying about the whole thing and somehow made Koji uncomfortable when it comes to the film being a director’s cut and about to show it in front of everyone in attendance, the emotion like we saw back in Season 5 was not there. But still, it was an interesting episode to watch over in my opinion. Let’s note that the last time we saw both Hawk and Chick, and was saving it for when Jessica make a return, last time we saw them, what does the world look like...other than a tire fire but a semi-controlled one...

This guy was president and decency was a thing in our country...will if you add the whole privacy invasion from the NSA, unlimited drone strikes like it’s Duck Hunt, and a party think that it’s a good idea to run the worse candidate in history and lose to the most unpopular candidate from the other camp and thus ending up in this hell hole. Excuse me for that. What else happened since then?

Oh right, these sports teams above that never won a championship from the Astros to the now Nationals won theirs since the episode aired. You can thank Chicago for breaking their curse and going back to the basement that they go. Is it bad that I’m calling for the San Jose Sharks to win the Stanley Cup for this season just to follow the trend? But yeah, it’s been a while since we last saw these two in play and let’s get to the review of this week’s episode.

Beginning the episode with Louise on some planning for what could a very long event for the restaurant as she is planning on hosting a movie screening and she wanted to make it a spectacular one because this one includes hosting a very special guest who will be visiting the town for like a few days and she want to go as perfect as she can imagine. And so she did...

By imaging the event with everything going well and ends up getting a Nobel Prize for hosting movie screenings. Which...pretty sure that’s not a real thing when it comes to the categories of the said prize. Nether does the Nobel Peace Prize for setting up a movie screening following Dominic’s entrance to the restaurant and with his hand holding one of the Hawk and Chick films being the one taking on the cephalopod monster and it’s a director’s cut version of the film. So you already know that if it’s a director’s cut version of a film, you are in for a treat. And Louise is going all out when it comes to the whole thing, introducing everyone to the film. Showcasing everyone some old school films with a father/daughter samurai duo fighting some monsters. Proving that they’re not total liars when it comes to the whole “I have a friend who is a celebrity” following the reunion back in Season 5. And with Koji in town, who’s only there to see Yuki’s baby, which was brought up out of nowhere since we last saw them, might as well bring him along as the special guest for this movie in which is a star of. I mean, not like bad things are going to strike for Louise in this episode, right?

Onto the cafeteria over at the school with Louise announcing everyone about the screening and being an open invite and you would think that everyone would be on board with the whole thing and of course, having Koji, the star of the film, would put the icing of the cake. However, let’s just put it out there, they don’t even know an iota of a thing about the film nor the star(s) of the said film. Welcome to the generation where people don’t even care of old school stuff despite the trend that the entertainment industry is going with old stuff coming out from the grave reboot after reboot and modernize it for the new generation. So everyone don’t know about the film nor the stars of the film, which of course, putting a dent into Louise’s idea of hosting a screening over at the restaurant. That and of course there’s another talk of the town, or rather school that is pretty much overshadowing Louise’s movie screening day and that of course...

Rudy with his broken arm. Now of course, we don’t know what made Rudy to have his arm broken, until later on in the episode, and everyone comes barging in and sign his cast and of course, look who decided to drop by when everyone was going over Rudy with his broken arm. Chloe Barbash. In which we haven’t seen since “Bob Actually” back in 2017 who was supposed to be come back last season with “The Gene Mile” but somehow written out for no ever reason, patting Rudy’s head out of pity and when you look at Louise’s face, despite that her announcement of a movie screening is being overshadowed by Rudy’s broken arm, when seeing Chloe patting his head with Louise present, like she wants to rip her hair off. I mean, let’s not forget that in “Bob Actually”, Louise think that Rudy has a thing for her, even though the whole thing with the weed and card was for Chloe. Only to find out that she was only using his affection to get some quiz answers and Louise stepped up to the plate and defended Rudy. I know that the movie screening is the main focus of the episode, I do remember saying that something a certain ship could overshadow that and this might be it. Except when seeing this episode, thank god I was wrong for that.

Back at the restaurant we go and it looks like Louise’s day is about to take a turn for the worst when Dominic comes into the restaurant and share the bad news concerning the upcoming screening and due to budget and loans to make sure nothing illegal is going on, it looks like the screening is now being called off and that pretty much upsets Louise because she was going to have a time of her life and have the perfect screening that she imagined with nothing to take a sour route but with Rudy’s arm being the main topic and now with the screening being canned due to anyone not having $1000 at the deposit, the whole screening event pretty much fell flat on it’s face. It’s like you’re planning for the wedding of your dreams and everything you imagine would finally become a reality without anything bad to make the event go down south but then all of a sudden, budget issues and one of your members of the family falls ill or broke his arm or leg or possibly got arrested for DUI and there might be rumors of your fiancé playing hooky. I know that the whole perfect wedding analogy seems kind of overused in some situations, but this pretty much sums up Louise in the episode when she heard that the screening was going down the drain and now have to break the news to everyone.

And back to the school with Louise, alongside Tina and Gene, ready to announce to everyone that the movie screening has been canceled as everyone continue to show interest of Rudy’s cast and when the casted arm went into his locker, it glows in the dark. A glow in the dark cast for Rudy. I broke my arm when I was like two and nobody brought up that there’s a cast that can glow in the dark. Pretty sure people are hitting themselves and thought of themselves on why didn’t get that. Don’t know if there’s like some sort of cancer risk when it comes to that, but who knows? Tina tries to do the honors of telling everyone that the movie screening has been called off but because of what we’re seeing with her not wanting to disappoint the mass, according to her, the screening is back on despite not having any money in their pockets. By the way, just putting it out, Rudy mentioned that he had his backpack on fire while at an Olive Garden when talking about his broken arm...for the love of god, please protect this small boy from any harm. Might as well put him in a bubble but what good would it do for him? But still, protect this poor boy. Anyway...

Louise hand over the check of $1000 with a forged signature of Bob’s name to Dominic in hopes for the movie screening to happen despite that what she is doing is terribly wrong like almost in the levels of thinking that the hosting the Fyre Festival might be a good idea despite not noticing that it would become the biggest disaster of this decade. Handing the deposit over to Dominic and of course, lie about the family being loaded though if you haven’t watched this video on how the “broke” the Belcher family are...

Well, here you go. Louise lied to Dominic by handing over the check of a fake $1000 and as he arrives and set up the film for the events, ends up lying to both Bob and Linda on why the screening have to continue as planned when it comes to the budget and thinks that Dominic was paying for it that was saved for his dead grandmother, though...yeah, no. Though the two people that don’t want to be a part of all of this when it comes to Louise getting her way with the screening, Tina and Gene. They don’t want to be tangled into the mess that Louise is now creating and want her to come out to tell what she have done. But Louise won’t do that, thinking that the two oldest siblings of her being overreacted over the whole thing and won’t stop her from having her cake and possibly eating it too as the moment of truth has arrived.

The movie screening. Everyone’s in attendance with everyone including the students that Louise invited from Tammy to Jocelyn, Jimmy Jr to Zeke, Andy and Ollie, who like Darryl are in desperate need for some screen time, thinking that they’re waiting for either Shrek or Spock even though Louise corrects them that everyone is waiting for Hawk to come into the building. And of course, we have Rudy present, still with his cast on, and of course, despite that this is Louise’s big day with everyone present, Rudy is saving a spot on his cast for Louise to sign it. But of course, the clock is ticking for the cast come the end of the day, it’s coming off and she would end up missing it. So uh...Louise...you better sign that cast. You only get one shot and I know that you have this whole screening all planned out and all, but you only get one shot and until the next time Rudy ends up with a cast attached to his body, probably aiming towards the leg, sorry Rudy, you better keep that word once the screening is over with. Speaking of the screening, look who decided to drop by to be the special guest of the whole event?

Enter Shinji Kojima, entering the restaurant and noticing everyone in attendance. Of course, he hugs Bob first and noticed a change of shampoo and comparing him to a marshmallow with a t-shirt attached. Even though he is. Well...a hairy one but a hairy marshmallow with clothes attached pretty much describes Bob. Hugging Linda, reuninting with the Belcher family as he is being escorted to the VIP booth by Louise and being introduced to Rudy as she set the final preparations up for the screening with him asking Koji about what happened with his arm and it’s mostly due to sleeping at night gone terribly wrong. And would wanna say like it’s probably more than just like a cramp, but hey, anything can happen in the nighttime that may result in injury either if it’s falling off from the bed hard enough to cause a minor injury or maybe a mishap following a pee break. Remember kids, nighttime potty breaks are the leading cause of injuries and may come with some minor damages...that and random drive-by shootings. And getting sick. And dealing with paranormal activity.

Koji cheers Rudy up that he was once dealt with an issue of having a broken arm when attending drama school, as a mime, and despite that having your arm being broken hurts like a mofo, he remains silent and the one rule when it comes to being mime is of course, being silent. Despite that you really want to yell out when being injured but we leave that to the mind to do all of the work. Oh yeah, and Dominic showcase the film reel in front of Koji in the form of one of the Hawk and Chick films being the one where they fight a cephalopod monster and being a director’s cut and you think that he would be at least glad because they’re showcasing everyone something new despite being old school all the way in the 70s but instead, he felt concerned over it. Which has now gain suspicion when it comes to why the movie was being brought up and being a director’s cut. Like hiding something bad type of scenario when trying to get in the clear when causing property damage to a place that you though it was abandoned but ended up being renovated and ready to be in use once again. That or in the Trump Administration with fiasco after fiasco currently with the impeachment inquiry. And when the screening is currently taking place with everyone set their eyes only on the screen...

Kojima, without anyone noticing, begins to exit out from his booth and head on down to the film and takes it away and just exit it with the film, that happened to be the second half of the movie for everyone to see, which appears to be the one where out of the blue, is the one where Koji felt uncomfortable over, and thus because of that, and not to mention the whole thing with the deposit with the truth coming out with Louise being the one who forged it to get the screening into play, the movie screening comes to an abrupt end. Just be thankful Louise, when it comes to the whole thing hosting a movie night, the FBI didn’t like storm the restaurant and accuse you of pirating it even though the fake deposit would cover it. Huh, and now I want to hear more about that clown that Zeke had for his seventh birthday that pretty much murdered someone...don’t know if Craigslist were around during that time but if it did, yeah...not uh...not a good place to find someone to entertain the kids at a budget.

So the screening comes to an end with everyone now left the premise and with the second half of the film gone thanks to Koji and now the family is $1000 less now thanks to that forged check, Louise ain’t getting out of this one as Bob tries to alert Yuki that her dad stole the film and nowhere to be seen, possibly check if he’s in the house or not, but no response to it and now going towards scolding Louise for what she did. Well what do you expect coming from Louise? She doesn’t like being one upped by someone. First the whole thing with pretending that the meat used for the restaurant is made out of human remains from the crematorium back in the very first episode because one student brought up that her uncle happened to be a matador in Spain and she had to up the ante and created this false rumor. And now with this episode, she is being one upped by Rudy’s broken arm and she had to do something. It’s like she has no other choice despite there are some consequences whether if it’s costing the family dozens of dinero or having a movie star storm off with the film due to whatever reasons. And speaking of Koji and the film, Bob noticed that something odd was going on when the film that he was on was being mentioned, so he decided to take a look courtesy of the good ol’ VHS tape. VHS tape, the dying breed of the form of media. You’re next, DVD. Streaming is about to be the next big thing come the 2020s decade and it looks like that support will be fading into black.

So Bob takes a peak at the film on what caused Koji to be all panicky over the whole thing and when he tried to find the true cause of the problem, there is a little issue that he found when fast forwarding the tape and noticed that a scene is missing. One scene has been cut from the whole film and no one knows how and why one little scene in the movie was cut from the tape. You could say that there might be a problem with the tape like when you’re using a disc and you noticed something is wrong and it happened to be scratched, which happened to be a massive pain in the ass when that happened, whether if it’s used for music on the car radio or showing a movie on DVD. But it’s nothing like that and thus we have the rest of the family and Teddy to come up with a conspiracy on why the scene have been cut and have something to do with Koji himself. And we begin with Linda...

Happened to be a mishap during the filming process when out of nowhere, they noticed that something is odd going on and when the filming resumes, don’t know if anyone, mostly one of the actors who are taking on both Koji and Yuki in their characters, spotting a ghost inside the shed, scare the audience during the filming, and thus have this very scene to be cut off. That’s all Linda and...nah, I don’t bought it. I mean...3-D films aren’t a thing back in the 1970s and doesn’t being brought up until the mid-to-late 2000s, so I don’t buy Linda’s take on why the scene was being cut. Gene’s on the other hand...

Happens during a party over at a disco studio, this is the 1970s since disco was a thing of the times, where Koji was having a time of his life at the height of the celebrity status and think that he’s the top of the world but then some guys in suits ain’t having that due to not paying some bills and have the owner of the club to get the studio to hire his nephew to the film. In which he did but oh god, they made a terrible decision when the guy pretty much forgot his lines, not finding his mark, and also sneezed on the catering. I mean...Gene could be on point but if you think that sabotage would be the answer that they might be looking for when it comes to why Koji had to take the film away but seems way to farfetched for that. Tina’s idea for why Koji took the film...do I have to say it?

During filming, it’s monster vs human with Koji’s character, Hawk, taking on the Cephalopod Monster for one scene. But behind the scene, under the costume is an actress and Tina thinks that Koji pretty much found someone in the actress in the costume that it pretty much affected the filming with his character, rather than finishing the monster off and turn it into calamari, he makes out with it and think that it was the studio who decided to cut the scene off from the film. Which...Tina...where do I begin to say this in this review? First time in like what...forever where I dare say the dreaded word known to man? Tina...I think you pretty much described hentai. There I said it. She may have described hentai with that scene, on primetime TV, that lead to it being cut and now I believe that Epstein didn’t kill himself.

Dominic enters the restaurant while talking on the phone to the guy who sold the film to him to showcase it in the hands of Louise and now want to talk to Bob, even though the whole thing with the deposit was more than a fake, trying to get out of it pretending that he is being attacked by a swarm of bees and making bee noises to make sure that they don’t end up getting involved in this whole mess. And speaking of phone calls, Yuki called it to Bob and tell him that Koji is in her house with the film on his side and to make things even more drastic, Louise has tagged along for the ride. Mostly to get the film back from him and taking it in her own hands and that of course, pretty much lead to the Belchers to head on down to Yuki’s house to stop Koji from what is about to do. That and seeing Yuki’s baby. It’s always the babby.

Hopping over to Yuki’s house with both Yuki and Louise with her opening the garage and sees Kojima ready to cut the film into pieces while holding the baby on his chest as the rest of the family arrive. Don’t worry, the baby is NOT harmed. He’s just sleeping while the whole mess is taking place as Bob and later Louise tries to reason with Koji to put the scissors down and give the film back to them but he won’t let that happened until he find something with the film reel and about to ready, set, go with the cutting. 

That is until Louise come up with a distraction by sending Linda to carry Yuki’s baby as Louise go for the kill and take the film away from him and gives it to Bob and still want to know why Koji want a certain scene from that film reel to be cut that lead him where we are right now. And we finally get a reason why and it comes in the form of an individual named Itsuki Sugimoto...in which everyone don’t even know who that is but we finally got a reason why that guy wasn’t known to the audience...

Going back to the restaurant with Koji explains everything when it comes to the whole missing scene fiasco and apparently, it’s jealously that happened to be the main cause of why there wasn’t even a scene in the film. He happened to be a no name actor and only have one scene. But who knew that a single scene from a film would automatically make him the favorite from behind the cameras and that concerns Koji because if the attention were to go to him, his reputation and possibly career would be in sudden danger like a quarterback who happened to be hot shit somehow during a game gets injured and have to bring in a backup no name quarterback to the field and lo and behold, that quarterback becomes hot shit enough to get that team to win a championship. And no, I did not describe the Philadelphia Eagles in their Super Bowl run back in 2017 with Wentz’s injury and sending in Foles to finish the job. 

Anyway, Koji got upset that a random no name actor, who’s only there for one scene, would end up getting the special treatment and that’s something that he would not stand with and used his influence to cut him out from the film. Never to be seen again...unless finding out that the guy does local theater and spend time with his grandchildren, so uh...he’s living that good life unlike other actors that we don’t know what really happened to them that might as well bring in E! Entertainment to do a True Hollywood Story on them. But yeah, it was jealousy that lead to the scene being cut of the film and what caused Koji to be in a panicky mode when the film was about to be shown in front of everyone during the screening and now felt bad over the whole thing but of course, it’s not too late for him to apologize to Itsuki as the whole thing with film is now finally behind them. But it looks like Koji won’t be the only one who may need to apologize.

Come the next scene to close out the episode with Louise walking up to Rudy, now cast free but with a pale arm now due to the cast, and apologize for trying to be the center of attention and have the screening being the center focus and take the spotlight away from Rudy, but Rudy doesn’t mind and accepts her apology and since that she was the only person who haven’t signed his cast, it looks like that even though it’s already too late now that the cast is off now, he saved it for her to do it. In which she did...despite the rotten smell of cast. Yeah...I mean six weeks without washing that broken body part could really put a massive BO onto that. But regardless, she signed the cast and decided to make things up with him making it their own cast away party by inviting him for some frozen yogurt and thus ending the episode with these two heading out. So it was nice that Louise had to make things up with Rudy over the whole who’s getting the spotlight more and of course, following the whole thing the feel reel but yeah...that was something. Also, if you’re a Roudise shipper were hoping for something else...yeah. You gotta wait a little more.

Reaction/Thoughts:

So all and all, what do I think about this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers? This was an interesting episode to watch over. Sure it doesn’t have the same flair as the first time we were introduced to Hawk and Chick into the show, but it was an interesting episode to watch despite that rewatchability factor is now on full edge for anyone who pretty much need to gather some thoughts. Even though it felt kind of rushed then somewhat slow then back to rushed but at least it didn’t disappoint, gotta give them that.

It was nice to see the return of both Hawk and Chick, aka Koji and Yuki, on the show again following their debut back in 2015, though this feels like it was all Koji taking the spotlight when it comes to the whole thing with the film and ends up taking it during the screening. Despite that it was a Louise episode because she planned for the screening to happen only for things to fall apart from the cost of the film to Rudy being the main focus with his broken arm and of course, the taking of the film. But it did not disappoint when it comes to how the writers handle with his character and after last week’s episode with a pretty much...don’t wanna say flat with the four plots with the two (Louise and Gene and Bob) taking it home, mediocre was pretty much said last week’s episode where this week’s was pretty much something that we need.

Of course, the main meat of the whole thing with why Koji had to take the film reel away over the fears of not wanting to get the attention away and give it to a random no name actor who is pretty much becoming a favorite to the cast and crew, would say that the idea would seem rather...don’t want to say mundane, but possibly unflavored but we all know what it’s like when you get the attention but then someone else stepped up and you end up begin to feel threaten like it’s a freaking reality show. That happened to Koji when it comes to that actor who is now unrecognizable unless you live in some random town and of course, with Louise hoping to be the attention with the screening only for Rudy to take the spotlight with his broken arm like with “Human Flesh” with creating a false rumor of human remains in the meat to up the ante after matador uncle was brought up. So yeah...that pretty much sums up what went down with these two. Might as well say history might have repeated itself but I’m sure they already apologized...well Louise already apologized to Rudy about what happened. Koji...might as well wait for a status update for that if he already did the deed.

Speaking of Louise and Rudy...thought that in the end of last week’s episode review, thought that these two would automatically overshadowing the whole thing with Hawk and Chick, mostly with both the script cover back in November of last year with him in the cast to that screencap with Chloe patting on his head with Louise present and looking like she’s either concerned or ready to puppy guard Rudy and rip Chloe’s hair out of her head. Didn’t get that, which thank god. But at least the ending of the episode with Louise apologizing to Rudy about what happened was nice and of course, finally got to sign the cast despite already being off and wreaks of body odor but it was a cute ending and I really like it.

So final thoughts, I think that this episode, despite that the pacing of the episode went from fast to slow to fast again, did not disappoint. Do enjoy the company of both Koji and Yuki despite that this was Koji’s time in the spotlight, much like with his debut episode, and even though it doesn’t have the same flair as what Season 5 did, it did not downplay the whole episode for me to enjoy and the ending with Louise and Rudy was cute and was the perfect thing to do to wrap up the episode. So I’ll give “The Hawkening: Look Who’s Hawking Now”...

An 8 out of 10. But a mid to high range 8 out of 10. Controversial statement, I know but it’s my review, my opinion. 8 out of 10. But that’s my review, now to hear yours!
