Fandom Update: Steven Universe: The Movie Trailer Dropped at Comic Con 2019

Yep, it looks like I’m about to enter the belly of the beast when it comes to the whole Comic Con op ed thing in the form of...guess what? Steven Universe. Most importantly, the upcoming Movie, which will be on this upcoming Labor Day. Thanksgiving would’ve been a decent pick mostly because Regular Show The Movie did it back in 2015, but it looks like that’s not the case anymore. So Labor Day it is.

This was pretty much the big talk of the con throughout this weekend as Comic Con continues on other than the other stuff coming from other TV shows and movies like The Walking Dead or hoping for an apology for the fans from the crew from Game of Thrones over the ending or the episodes leading up do it. Just be thankful that they were civilized and nothing more as the event play out. But of course, the name that everyone has been spewing even before the convention began ever since it was announced last year in the form of Steven Universe: The Movie. And if you haven’t watch the trailer and made it to this page, well then have no fear, here it is, down below.

Oh ho holy shit balls. This trailer did NOT disappoint coming from the Crewniverse when it comes to hyping the fanbase up for the upcoming movie ready to premiere on television in the Fall months, around the Labor Day weekend. And what also is great about this, almost sounding a little bias here, is that the movie is set two years, count ‘em, two fricking years since the events of “Change Your Mind”. So it looks like the movie is in the canon timeline of the series and look like we’re gonna stay in this for the show’s sixth season. When was last time a movie that became connected to the canon line of the series? What was it?

Oh yeah, the series that doesn’t what the definition of the word “last” is in the dictionary but filled into the canon lore of the series. Two years after a story ended. Huh? That almost familiar with the movie following up when it comes to the series. The movie sets two years after “Change Your Mind”. The Last: Naruto the Movie sets two years after Shippuden. After Chapter 699 of the manga and before Chapter 700, or rather, before the Boruto anime. Almost seems like where you’re going with this, Rebecca. And I know that you’re a fan of anime, mostly One Piece, which they also had a two year time skip in between the start of the training for the New World to arriving back to Sabaody and the Straw Hats reunited and ready to set sail to Fishmen Island. That and of course, the new designs with the characters, mostly with both Steven and Connie. And speaking of new design, Bismuth.

You noticed her in that screencap from the trailer that what she’s wearing isn’t the same outfit that she wore from when she was reformed back in “Made of Honor”. So I don’t know if and I could think of two things here, either she got reformed during the two-year time skip, hope we can like get some answers either in the movie or leave it to the fans to come up with some theories or pray for like a novel to come out like with Naruto to fill in before and after The Last with those stories. Or maybe this is like after the battle against the antagonist where it looked like she was, not benched, but more of thrown out of the ring. Gets poofed during the battle and once the battle is done with the villain defeated, she gets reformed or maybe before the threat is dealt with. Could possibly see that but chances of that being a thing is pretty much as getting struck by lightning or rather hoping for, let’s say putting a souffle in the oven and once the timer is done and the thing is fully cooked, you hope that it doesn’t like deflate. Be warn, I’m a total noob when it comes to predicting stuff for Steven Universe. So if I fuck things up, well that pretty much the part of the course and learn from your mistakes. So take it with a grain of salt with that prediction of mine because like almost every other series, it can exceed expectations.

We all know that Steven looks older and that he has grew a neck in a natural way and not like shape shifting in like what he did in his birthday episode after overhearing the conversation between both Connie and Greg when the poster for the movie came out weeks ago that got the internet, mostly the fanbase, excited over how grown Steven has become since Change Your Mind, mostly in height and maturity. Now of course, Steven wasn’t the only one who has a new design and had a time skip.

Connie as well. The short hair stayed though it almost like her hair might somewhat growing back if you see the pin like with her hairstyle that was introduced back in Lars of the Stars where her hair was tied into somewhat of a bun. But that’s may not be the case. Her hair is gonna stay short. I kind of like having Connie with short hair rather than her hair being long when she was first introduced. Don’t @ me. And speaking of both Steven and Connie...

Yep, that Connverse check kiss. This almost seems like a little cocktease from the cast and crew of the series with Connie giving Steven a kiss on the cheek, a goodbye kiss before heading off with Steven feeling surprised and blushed at the same time like it came out of nowhere. Don’t know what the hell was going on in between Change Your Mind and the movie. It’s early to say that they’re dating because although there’s some people out who would do enjoy the whole came out of nowhere trope like when in Regular Show when Rigby told Mordecai that he and Eileen are dating when looking for the letter that Muscle Man’s Dad gave him on the day of Muscle Man and Starla’s wedding. That or they’re still friends but they’re in the tier process like their friendship is like about to ready to cross the line from one territory to another. They’re in the best friend territory and pretty soon, they’re about to enter a new territory, which is confessing their feelings and ready to date. I’m not a relationship expert. Go ask a real one.

Noticing that the gems that used to corrupted but not anymore after the events of Change Your Mind thanks to both Steven and the Diamonds making them uncorrupted and it looks like those gems since they left the Earth are on different planets and it looks like things over at Homeworld seems to be somewhat well since the end of Season 5 thanks to Steven as they watch him through a communicator. Oh yeah, so Pink Diamond’s leg ship will not be staying over on Earth like at the final scenes of “Change Your Mind” next to the Temple and instead, back at Homeworld. Guess the Diamonds gotta need that ship back since it looks like Steven won’t be using it anymore during the two year time skip and decided to deal with whatever going on Earth and Earth only. Didn’t say anything about the Diamonds paying a visit in a noninvasive way like with “Reunited” when they crashed the reception and fucking things up but hyping fans up. So a visit from aunts can’t be ruled out unless serious shit is about to throw down come later on in the series.

Steven, I know that you want to have a break from all the problems since the end of Season 5 but let’s face it, just because one threat is done, doesn’t mean that everything should be all sunshine and rainbows. I mean, there has to be some serious shit that went down during the time skip. It can’t be just like with Dragon Ball in between the Frieza Saga and the Android Saga (before Frieza came back as Mecha Frieza and bringing in his father King Cold to Earth to find Goku only to deal with Future Trunks) where everything is all fine and dandy despite that Vegeta went off to find Goku. In DBZ Kai, yeah, that pretty much sums up that. In the original DBZ on the other hand, had to deal with the Garlic Jr shit.

Hoping for everything to be all peaceful and can finally relax with the Gems next to you and enjoy a nice day lying down on the grass up the hill with the wind blowing on the grass only for the villain to come in and decided to fuck everything up and defeat everyone like they’re rag dolls. For five minutes...honestly, for five freaking minutes...can the kid catch a break for once?!

I mean Steven went through a lot of shit for the past five seasons. I know that he made progress in his character development and strengthening his relationships with everyone, but the guy almost fucking died. Whether if it’s getting headbutted by Jasper or almost getting shanked by Eyeball while stuck in the bubble or let’s not forget that White Diamond extracted his gemstone out of his belly and was about to knock on death’s door. I’m surprised that the guy didn’t like go to therapy after each mission with a near death experience mixed in that bag.

There’s always going to be a new threat whenever the old one is dealt with. You have the introduction of Peridot, that lead to her and Jasper invading the Earth with Lapis as their prisoner. Thought that problem is dealt with despite that Peridot escaped, Jasper came out and fused with Lapis by manipulation, despite that Lapis spotted an opportunity and trapped her and Jasper underwater. Finally captured Peridot, oh shit, there’s a new threat in the Cluster. Finally beat and unfuse Malachite, oh shit, the Cluster is ready to come out. The Cluster bubbled itself thanks to Steven, and here come the Ruby Squad. Ruby Squad now out of our lives, oh crap, Jasper’s back. Jasper’s been dealt with despite that she has now became corrupted, the Ruby Squad came back and they pissed. Ruby Squad got flown out in open space, Steven followed along by accident. Steven wanting to find some answers about his mother’s actions, Blue Diamond kidnapped Greg. Steven and the Gems got Greg back, Topaz and Aquamarine came in and capture Lars, Sadie, Connie, Onion, and Jamie. Turned himself in to prevent them to get to Greg, gotten stuck in Homeworld with Lars on his side only to be killed off only to be brought back thanks to Steven’s healing tears. Finally gotten back to Earth, leaving Lars behind, Connie gave Steven the silent treatment over his actions. Finally got patch things up, deal with Emerald while being Lars’ ship with the Off Colors. Finally convincing Lapis to Earth, have a dream about the shattering. Finally getting some answers from Pearl, find out that Rose Quartz is Pink Diamond. Finally got the truth, Sapphire ran off. Sapphire got brought back, Ruby ran off. Ruby and Sapphire proposed and have the wedding, the Diamonds invade. The Diamonds learned that Pink is Steven, gotta get to White Diamond to help heal the corrupted gems. Cause a scene during the ballroom, got sent to timeout. Steven got Blue and Yellow’s support, only to become White’s puppets. The other gems come in with Pearl, Amethyst, and Garnet refuse, they got turned into puppets. Steven got his gem ripped out, yo holy shit, a Pink Steven happened and put White in her place once fused. Finally got Homewold to be balanced and peaceful...

So the villain of the movie, finally got her design in the trailer and when looking at the design and comparing this to the poster when she was first introduced.

A lot people compared her to other characters from other series, most used being the character of XJ9, or Jenny Wakeman, from the Nickelodeon series My Life As a Teenaged Robot. Now seeing her in the trailer, almost getting vibes with Dee-Dee from Dexter’s Laboratory. And also have stretchy powers with her arms. Her arms. I don’t know if that antagonist pretty much as the same powers as the Gum-Gum fruit from One Piece, getting rubber powers like with Luffy. We don’t have a speaking role in the trailer though we are getting it when the movie come out and of course, hoping we can get a motive on why she is doing and why she is draining the life out of the Earth, as what Peridot stated that the Earth only got 41 hours left to live if the machine that almost looks like a gem drill to rob the planet of everything, so technically it’s a race against time. And I better see a good motive, a better motive and not use the whole “I’m killing because I hate you” or “I’m killing you because I want to make things back to the way it used to be”, someone who don’t want to accept change and want to keep things the way it used to be before Steven came into play and patch things up.

And as for the gemstone, I hear people saying that she’s either a Red Diamond, an off color Pink Diamond, or possibly a Morganite. Judging by what everyone is stating and knowing that, like with the Bismuth getting a new outfit ideal, chances of either one of the options being the pick for the villain, again, like being struck by lightning. And the color scheme looks rather dark, like a dark color palette used for the design. Almost seems like...don’t want to say magenta to say the least, red diamond seems like a decent choice with an off color Pink Diamond seems like a viable answer. So for now, it’s too early to tell. This seems like a very hard question to answer, like if the guessing game has turned up the difficulty level to “Fuck It after Round One”. But yeah, anything can happen.

So yeah, that will be all, ha, for this not-so breakdown of the trailer, doesn’t feel like a breakdown, just stating some thoughts and whatnot for this trailer and man, oh man, this movie...I don’t know if this movie is like going to rival either “Change Your Mind” or any Top 10 episodes of the series. Too early to say but we’ll wait and see to find out on Labor Day to find out. Watch the movie! I will be on the day of the premiere. Tell me what you think in the comments down below.
