Man, time flies really fast y’all, let me tell you. Nineteen episodes in and now we’re nearing the finish line for the ninth season and in this fourth to last episode of the current season, it’s the road to the comeback after being off the air for far too long for one radio DJ and it’s up to Bob to give him the comeback that he deserves. In this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers, that is exactually what Bob is doing when he met his personal hero from the radio and decided to help him out trying to stage a comeback on the airwaves while Linda deal with a hoard of sweet potatoes in my spoilerific review of the nineteenth episode of the ninth season of Bob’s Burgers, titled “Long Time Listener, First Time Bob”.
Well…this week’s episode to kick off the month of April seems rather interesting to gloss over. It’s another Bob episode, yet again, another breather from the overhaul known as the kids taken massive control of the season’s main plots and this isn’t like in the forms of let’s say “Roamin’ Bob-iday”, more in the line of “Bobby Driver” with Bob trying to help someone out and of course, ends up fallen into whatever the hell that person is doing whether if it’s Edith trying to get back at her quilting club or that radio DJ, Clem’s the name, trying to make a comeback by taking over the radio across the town. Yeah…to everyone, it’s pretty much something that Bob can’t even catch a break this season, or any other season. But to Bob…pretty much a regular Thursday for the breadwinner of the Belcher family. It was an alright main plot coming from Bob trying to help out his what appears to be his personal hero on the radio back in his days after finding out that he’s been let go and want to get back in the air. Although there were some few flaws in the mix, it was an alright main plot.
As for the subplot on the other hand, before fully merging into the main plot thanks to Speedo Guy…yeah, although it may seems like, say it with me peoples, a possible waste of time because you think there has to be something but nope, merged in a snap, there were some moments that I like with this, mostly with both the tasting and noticing that Linda’s taste test in her sweet potato pies…not that great when it comes to the taste, mostly due to a missing ingredient that Teddy state to make the pies look good. And of course, look at that, a rare thing you would see in this series, a speaking role coming from Mort. Jesus Christ, it’s been like…84 years since we have Mort having a speaking role. My god, it’s been that long. But yeah, those are the two things so you could consider this subplot…not “like”, that almost seems like too strong of a word, let’s say…tolerable, let’s go with that.
Kicking off the episode with…almost what look like a rehash to the beginning of “Bed, Bob, and Beyond” with a family trip in the evening with the parent(s) being upset where this time, it’s only Bob who was upset over something and the family this time around try to cheer him up. So why is Bob is a sour mood as the family is heading out for a family night out to the bowling alley? Well…Bob got upset over a list. Not just any list, a list that places which restaurant is the best across the shore and that the restaurant, Bob’s of course, didn’t even make the cut. Linda tries to calm Bob down and thinks that who gives an iota of a crap about some dumb list as she stated, but Bob does because…let’s face it, it would give the place some publicity and draw in a lot of people coming in. Huh? Thought that the whole…magazine thing back in the Season 6 finale would’ve like draw in the crowd, other than like the townsfolk that we all know within the series, to the place to grab a bite to eat. But the list that Bob talks about in the car ride talks about their taste mostly because the place they would go is always new and hip and of course, being the talk of the town and of course, Bob saw the bias coming from that list because it serves sweet potato fries, in which he is not a fan of because it’s too sweet and it’s stupid.
And I’m probably going to get a lot of hate in this and I can already see it in the comments defending the thing, but…I got to agree with Bob, sweet potato fries are pretty much unnatural. It’s unnatural. It’s disgusting. I mean seriously, when it comes to making fries, the regular potato would be the go to. Whether if it’s regular, crinkle cut, waffle, curly, any kind that involves a regular ass potato, that’s fine. Sweet on the other hand…no. J-just n-no. No. Putting sweet potato in fries is like the equivalent to having pineapple as a topping on a pizza. It’s vile and disgusting and I think I should like head down to the White House’s website to create a petition to have that shit banned and make it a criminal offense. Cause this is not natural. This is not natural. No wonder Bob is being pissy over the whole sweet potato thing. And he won’t stop until he makes in on the list and he does so by ordering 50 pounds of sweet potatoes earlier in the day, off camera of course, as the family finally arrive at the bowling alley to get his mind off it for now.
As Bob and the family put on their bowling shoes and about to head off to their lanes, a voice comes out in the speaker and that grabs Bob’s attention and sense that he knows that voice from anywhere. Found out that the guy behind the mic in the booth is named Clem Clements and found out coming from Bob himself that he used to be on the radio and listened to it when he was working late when he first opened the restaurant. So uh…hey, we got a snippet of the restaurant in the earlier days of when Bob first open the restaurant. Though I don’t know if this is like before or after meeting Linda for the first time? Hmm? So Bob recognizes Clem in the booth of the bowling alley and asks him why is working at a bowling alley, working as an announcer and spraying bowling shoes, and he explain how he ended up here. And his explanation stated that the radio industry pretty much fell to poop from the station wanting him to play songs that are what deemed as “radio friendly”, don’t even think about tying in with the PC culture, it’s nothing like that, to the station wanting to give away prizes like you would hear whenever you listen in the house or in the car and on the go, giving away concert tickets or a free t-shirt, though you could like go to a ball game and wait for that moment like when a mascot shoots out from a t-shirt cannon. Neither one of these two or whatever the station are doing is something that Clem would rather not do and rather than just leaving the place and calling it quits while he has his pride, the boss ends up firing him and replaced him with a computer, becoming member of the lost my job to a robot club. And in the radio business of all places.
Almost sort of sound like with Regular Show in the episode “K.I.L.I.T. Radio” when Muscle Man wrote a song for his girlfriend at the time Starla, they’re married now, spoilers, and want to put it on the radio and want that radio DJ, who later found out that he got demoted to janitor, to play it on the radio. Threw it away just as Muscle Man, alongside Mordecai and Rigby, exit out from the place, which upsets him and explains that he no longer has a job behind the booth because surprise, automation happened. So you could say, if you’re a fan of Regular Show and Bob’s Burgers all together and getting somewhat of a flashback to that episode, this one does not include a killer computer nor a DJ that play the booth one last time as the station explodes and considered that his swan song. So there’s that. But after that, Clem got a job offer in a dinky 40-watt radio station, don’t know any radio lingo, I’m guessing…AM radio, but he still has his pride and thus ending up where we are, where he is at, at the bowling alley. He has guts, I’ll give him that when it comes to his pride not being shattered. And that guy went through a lot since his firing…so uh…props to him to not being broken down after losing his job because don’t want to follow the rules from the heads and it’s his booth. He make the calls. He should do whatever he wants and what the fans wanted and I should probably stop because this is where things begin to go downhill as I continue to speak.
Back at the restaurant and switching over to the next day with Bob listening to the radio and listening in to the filth that Clem stated and man he was right about the industry falling to shit and turns the radio off and upset over the idea of the heads firing Clem all because he didn’t follow orders and it looks like Bob’s time at the restaurant will be cut short as it looks like he’s about to start cooking an order for Clem coming in the next scene and out of anger when Teddy brought up the sweet potato topic, causing him to be mad at him. Jesus Christ Teddy, how much damage did you cause to Bob this season alone?
Bob then delivers the food to Clem at the bowling alley, in which Clem eats it and seems to enjoy it. Calling back to the days that he would eat behind the booth and talk with his mouth full and how his boss, the person responsible for firing him, gets mad at him. Currently upset that the boss told him that nobody don’t want to listen to someone who talk and talk and talk a lot and thinks that it’s a waste of time like it’s freaking public radio. And of course, Bob tries to lighten the mood up with the notion that he can’t be the only who would listen to Clem all day and have the kids to listen in as well, even though looking a their faces…yeah, they would rather not do that and have their days spent not listening in to the radio. And that’s where an idea has began to pop up from ol’ Clem in hopes to wanting his job back over at the station by wanting to talk to the heads and say that they made a terrible mistake over the whole firing him and replace him with a computer thing. Or in this case, he’s making a comeback and with Bob stepping in and help him out, you could say that nothing can go wrong here. Have a nice little talk with the boss of the radio station. Try not fucking things up. Hoping for things to go smoothly and bang, back behind the booth and working on the radio. Oh…that’s gonna backfire quickly since this is a sitcom so uh…yeah. No way in hell we’re gonna wrap a story plot in less than 15 minutes.
Onto the next day with Bob dressing up and ready to go with the kids tagging along for the ride like waiting for the train to be derailed and watch it in their own eyes and telling Linda about telling the boss to give Clem his job back in a nice and subtle way in hopes to not make the situation worse and as he prepares to leave for the day, Linda tells him about the whole sweet potato thing and used it to make some pies, which setting things up for the subplot of the episode. Which of course, sweet potatoes…triggering Bob again and stated that sweet potatoes should belong in pies as he exits out in anger. In which again, agreeing with Bob on this one, sweet potatoes shouldn’t be in fries and instead, should be in pies. Mostly around the Thanksgiving holiday at the table. Though now that you think about it, I think Patti Labelle is gonna sue someone over that. Remember that? When she got in to the sweet potato pie business?
Bob and the kids finally arrive at the radio station with Clem waiting for them in the wings and as the four begin to talk about their game plan to get Clem his back, they notice the van that belonged to the radio station and Clem stated that the van parked in the parking lot was used for live events but ever since the firing the Clem, now it’s used for giving away free t-shirts at the mall like it’s a goddamn free for all sale. In which Tina would be interested in the idea of that but of course, Clem’s there and don’t want to rain on that parade and pretends to straight up hating the idea. Clem even thinks about lighting the van on fire and just call it a day, not because he’s sending out as a message to the boss, but…more in the line of he knows that this is gonna fail quickly so burning the van to the ground would be a decent idea and just call it a day. And even Louise is on board with the idea of burning the van up but didn’t go through because Bob thinks that it’s a bad idea and instead they’re going to do the old fashion way and try to talk things out. Last I checked, you’re here to get this guy’s job back, not treating it like it’s an episode of Dr. Phil and go through a therapy session.
On to the boss’s office where the negotiations take place to try to convince him to take Clem back to the station with the boss trying to get things straight coming from Clem that he has enter the building with Bob and the kids to tell them that he made a massive mistake in firing him and Bob has to come into play and try to convince him to get Clem back to the station and not hoping to fuck things up, though the boss, Vance was it, that they should’ve have this little conversation over at the phone even though Bob did that but it sends him to those navigate menu option things you get when trying to call for customer support whenever there’s like a problem with the TV or computer, but Bob wants to have a say face to face and if you think that Bob would sprinkle in some Belcher convincing magic into him, well…
Yeah, so the negotiation failed. The charm didn’t work as everyone got sent out of the office and looks like they’re about to call it a day. But it looks like not all hope is lost as it looks like the door to the radio booth has open up and the five enter the place for Clem to feel the nostalgic air of being behind the mic, smelling the fart that used to be on the chair which…n-no. No. Just…no. As Clem somewhat give a tour of the booth to Bob and the kids, they spotted someone, after being scared for a bit like deer looking at the headlights, working in the audio booth in the next room over named Patrick, in which Bob stated that the heads got rid of the manual staff, meaning both Clem and Patrick, but according to Clem, only Patrick stayed over while Clem got the boot because let’s not forget, the boss switched over to a computer to do the job and with Patrick as the engineer and checks if things don’t go wrong live…well that and he need the money to make ends meet, so there’s that.
As Bob sit on the chair of where Clem used to sit and pretends to be the person behind the mic like he’s hosting a goddamn podcast, though Bob…when it comes to the Belcher family and the whole podcast thing…yeah, I think that should be Gene’s jurisdiction. Just putting that out there in the future. Just as Bob plays pretend with the booth of the radio station, he now noticed Clem in the background pushing a sofa and begins barricading him, Bob, the kids, and Patrick from ever getting out and it looks like barricading themselves isn’t the only thing that Clem would be doing. Nope, looks like he’s taking over the air during live broadcast like he’s some sort of well known hacker invading the airwaves of any radio station across the metropolitan area just to fuck around with everyone in a late April Fools stunt like something you see or hear from War of the Worlds. Clem taking over the airwaves caught the attention of Vance but before that, just as Patrick was about to press the button, which would get Vance’s attention, but could also probably get the police involve to drag them out. But of course, Clem orders Patrick to not press button as the Clem Takeover Hour begins to take it’s place. Yeah, this doesn’t feel like a massive comeback for ol’ Clem here when trying to get his job back. This has now turned into a hostage and hijacking situation over at the station with I guess the entire town’s population now listening in to what’s going on. Almost like with the whole bank robbery thing with Mickey in his introduction back in Season 2, only Clem is doing it in a harmless matter. No people were hurt in the making of this episode.
As the takeover takes place on the air with everyone trapped in the booth, Bob have a nice little private chat with Clem and now begins to take that what he is doing is probably a terrible idea and thinks that holding the booth hostage isn’t going to give Clem his job back but Clem doesn’t care as he head back to the booth to continue talking behind the mic. But something tells me that little not-so hostile takeover isn’t going to last long because it looks for Vance, he’s gonna find a way to at least find an opening to come in to the booth and throw everyone out of there to get things to run back smoothly. And it looks like Patrick would do that and possibly getting the police involved but if he does so, then they, referring to Clem, Bob, and the kids, would head over there and press the button again to call the thing off. Think of it like an on/off switch but you have to press twice to call the thing off. So if the technical talk confuses you while watching this episode? Well…you’re not alone on this one. But that’s not the thing that made things fall apart for the guys, that goes to the next scene…
As the takeover continues, Louise has to head out to use the bathroom because she has been holding it for like almost a whole day and let’s face it, we don’t an accident from happening while the hijacking is taking place in hopes for Clem to get his job back, so as both Vance and a security guard are having trouble trying to get the door due to the furniture blocking the door to open, Clem wants to have a cease fire, for a bit but not wanting the two from coming in, to get Louise to head down to the bathroom. In which they did, Louise did get out to find the bathroom but having trouble to find the nearest one and decided to use the paper cups and pee there…yeah, just gonna leave there. Oh and the cease fire fell apart and handing Vance and the guard the opening and thus ending the hijack of the radio station, for now, and exit or thrown out of the station and thus calling this so-called mission a failure. But if you think that all hope has now lost following being thrown out of the station after that attempted hijacking, it looks like not all hope has vanished into thin air as Bob noticed the van parked in the lot and use it as a second shot in taking over the airwaves. Only problem is that they don’t have the keys.
Enter Patrick, who straight up got fired, though in his perspective, he quit his job, in supporting what Clem is doing and decided to stick it to the man. Plus, he was gonna quit at some point, so there’s that. They begin to head out from the station, taking the van away, and head off somewhere as everyone begins to get Clem back to the air again, on the road of course, but needs to find a spot to do all of that. And lucky enough, the nearest place that everyone in the van that they should go for a pit shop and set up shop for hijacking the airwaves again is of course…
The restaurant that was deemed as the “best restaurant on the shore”, the place that made Bob mad at the start of the episode over the whole thing with both the attention and the use of sweet potatoes in fries. So uh, can’t wait for that rant to be on the air. Of course, there’s no phone in the radio on the go van for them to make contact, or in this case, for everyone around town to make a call to them, so Clem wants Bob to hand over his phone, meaning that Bob has to hand over his phone number so that everyone in town can make contact to get to Clem. Bob seems a bit uncomfortable when being told to give away both his phone and his number to the public but it looks like Bob doesn’t have a choice in the making and decided to hand over the phone as they park at the restaurant, access to the Wi-fi of the place, and hack the airwaves across the town and hoping for everyone to get some calls. Just putting out there, if the radio thing doesn’t work for Patrick, who got fired from his job, dude should probably be either a technician in like his own little business, run a how-to video on YouTube, or even become an expert hacker for like…I don’t know, the government? Who knows? That might actually happen in any given time.
Clem is back in the air via hijacking the airwaves yet again and getting the people’s attention, including both Linda and Teddy who are trying to find Bob and the kids after hearing what’s going down over at the station, we’ll get to that in the subplot and for the rest, soon, as everyone in the van begins taking calls from the town beginning with some robocalls. Freaking robocalls. God, do you ever hate that like whenever you get a phone call and you think you’re getting a call from either the workplace or college that you admitted or from your possible love interest and ended up picked up quickly only to end up realizing that the call you got is from some random phone call either from a company or a political campaign or most likely a spam call. I do. I don’t answer those but I hate getting them every freaking time. Like so much that I want to head down to my phone provider and tell them how to not let any spam calls to come in or find a way on the internet to block those calls…that could like cause my phone some massive amounts of damage. And before you say anything, no. I have NOT done that…yet. My phone is pretty much shit as of this moment. Thanks LG.
Finally got through the robocalls, they finally got contact from the townsfolk, only to reveal to be Linda on the phone and having a talk with Bob on the air, telling him where is he at, in which Bob replied that he’s at the restaurant on that list that made him so mad and Linda decided to say that enough is enough with that whole him being mad for not on the list because it’s not trendy and some shit all because he doesn’t serve sweet potatoes and told him to stand down and for once and for all, ignore what that list said, said that who’s a give a shit about what the list said and that he’s being stubborn and that sometimes that just because the place didn’t even make it on the list, doesn’t mean random strangers are gonna like him just because he made on it the thing and that they should like him for him. So ends Bob’s little temper tantrum for the episode with him being triggered over the whole thing and now gonna follow what Linda said over at the phone and ignore what the list say. Say that if your business has been nominated for like an award and you and your workers got excited that but when the day comes and found out that you didn’t, there has to be that one person, either if it’s you or someone you work with, upset and think that y’all got robbed and it would take like days for either your spouse, children, family member, or friend to tell you that it’s just a piece of medal and that if you didn’t win the thing, try again next time. Didn’t win again? Try and try again until that time finally comes. Unless you’re that someone who has a huge ego and uh yeah…again, ego is gonna be someone’s downfall.
While Bob has finally put that tantrum aside with the whole thing with the list thanks to Linda, Clem on the other hand is still collecting calls from the rest of the town while being on the air…is what I would say if the radio hasn’t got back in the control of the station and not in the hands of both Patrick and Clem, and thus putting an end of the attempt to get Clem his job back in the radio and just as he is prepare to throw in the towel and about to head back to the bowling alley, Bob shows Clem a series of phone calls that been coming in during Bob’s talk to Linda about the whole list thing and the phone calls seems rather positive as the hijacking came in from one person wanting to know if he’s coming back to the station to another person calling the station out for letting Clem go and wanting him back on the air. And then to the other station, the station that Clem has not accepted the offer with, and asks that the offer for him to be in their station still stands and loves that what is doing with the takeover thing, meaning that they listened and if you think that pulling that little stunt would mean that the chances of him being in the booth would go to the slim category, they enjoyed it and of course, have an offer ready for him to accept. In which, Clem accepts the offer and of course, can’t be alone in that as he asks the heads over at that radio station, WOFD, he’ll accept the offer if they’ll hire Patrick as his engineer since he’s out of a job too and of course, they accept Patrick in and thus, the two are back on the job, just with the other station, and Clem, he finally got his radio gig back even though it’s gonna be during the nighttime hours, mostly around the midnight to 8:00am hour, as the only spot to fill him in, he rather take the timeslot rather than have no job over at the radio station. So you could say he has somewhat of a happy ending for him having his job back and for Bob to finally put the whole so-called list controversy to rest. So it was an okay, if not, an alright main plot with that in my taste. Though I bet everyone here have other opinions to that. And to the episode overall, again, if y’all feel somewhat lost over this episode, why you are you and go watch and prove me wrong. Oh and if you’re asking what happened to the van…I’m gonna guess…the police taken it into custody as Bob, the kids, Clem, and Patrick head out and escape in time before the police car came up. Yeah let’s go with that.
On to the subplot we go with the whole sweet potato thing and it looks like the subplot thing will be cut short because let’s not forget, it was merged with the main plot all because of the radio takeover. Linda has to deal with a hoard of sweet potatoes, about around 50 pounds of it and because Bob don’t want to make them into fries because that triggered him to the core all because of the list, she decided to not let them waste and instead of that or rather throw it away though that would be a massive waste of money, she decided to make some pies and thinks that the restaurant is selling pies now as a dessert other than serving ice cream…which let forget, broken thanks to the mechanical shark incident.
On to the next scene with Linda finally serving the pie to Teddy where we have Mort coming in and finally! Finally!!! He finally got a speaking role in this episode! Holy hell…it’s been like 84 years since we last have a Mort speaking role and we got it. We finally got it! I mean yeah, it was short lived like with the AAF. But we motherfucking finally got a speaking role for everyone’s favorite mortician. Oh…my god…man…man…it’s been so long. I don’t know what the hell is going on over there in the casting department or even in the writing department, just be glad that Mort got a speaking role. And it was glorious. But yeah, Linda asks Mort once entering the restaurant if he could have a piece of sweet potato pie like what Teddy is about to eat, giving it an I don’t know as an answer and when Teddy took the first bite with that pie, he noticed something seems wrong with the pie, mostly coming from the taste and stated that it tasted terrible, which concerns Linda because she thinks that she got everything right when it comes to the pie making process. But Teddy doesn’t think so and thinks that she’s missing an ingredient in the form of sugar but Linda thinks that she doesn’t need it because it’s a sweet potato and thinks that adding sugar in the sweet potato pie doesn’t blend well. Oh and found out that she didn’t mess up one pie. Let’s try…ten in total. Ten pies that she messed it up in the making. When someone say the phrase easy as pie…yeah the person who came up with that idiom is pretty much a fucking liar and should deserve to kicked in the nuts.
On to the pie tasting with both Linda and Teddy in anxious panic mode and trying to eat each and everyone of the pie by eating the current one and of course, the horrid taste is there and have the bottle of whip cream to at least add the flavor for the pie but even that didn’t work. So uh…if you think that the subplot with the pie thing would’ve like go a little while longer with let’s say if Linda found the right pie and think that she could like remember the ingredient of that pie and would use that to sell it to the customers and come an instant that there would something going wrong, mostly in the cooking process, with one of the pies being burnt and probably cause the kitchen to be lit up in flames. But instead, it looks like the subplot of the episode decided to merge with the main plot like with the example I could think of is with “Wharf Horse” with having two plots of the episode with Bob trying to convince Mr. Fischoeder to sell the Wharf while Tina protested the removal of her favorite carrousel ride and Tina locking herself on her favorite carrousel horse grab the attention to the whole town that grabbed the attention of both Bob and Linda, thus having the two plots merged into one to close out the episode.
That’s pretty much with this episode when the radio got hijacked in the hands of Clem in an attempt to get his job back following the failed negotiations and when Speedo Guy comes in and tells Linda and Teddy that Bob is with them in the whole hijacking the radio situation, the pie thing has to wait, despite that Teddy took one of them with him for the ride, to the radio station and not noticing that the van parked in the lot is not there due to everyone has taken it but noticed the car there and of course, tying in to the final minutes of the main plot with Linda calling Bob to let it go when it comes to the whole list thing. While I think that this subplot was rather be called as a waste of time and whatnot, but there were some fine moments in there, mostly with the whole taste tasting thing before being cut off and of course, Mort having a speaking role again, which is something that we got and for the love…of dear Christ, have him have more speaking roles in future episodes.
Reaction/Thoughts:
So all and all, what do I think about this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers? Just to keep it 100 here, I think this was an alright episode. It’s not that bad, but it’s not that good either. Probably in the middle as the safe ground. It’s not like in the form of “Lorenzo’s Oil”, which was, let’s face it, a total disaster, this one doesn’t look like a disaster, more in the line of to if I were compare it to an episode this season alone, I would say more or less in the line of…possibly either “UFO No You Didn’t” or “Bed, Bob, and Beyond”, yeah let’s go with that.
The main plot was alright in my taste with the whole Bob helping his personal hero out trying to get his job back. You could say it almost looking like “Bobby Driver” with Bob helping someone out to do a little task only to be fallen into a little scheme that could disrupt anything and anyone, either if it’s with Edith and stealing quilts or with Clem barricading himself and hijacking the air, out of these two episodes, don’t know which one of those two have Bob like he needed a breather from all the drama, all the nonsense? Just be lucky that it’s April now and the season’s almost over with.
Of course, got to give Clem some credit in this episode because he’s the type of person who after not following the rules of the changes that the heads over at his old stomping grounds, who later lost his job over that. But at least his pride didn’t get shredded away after being let go and was offered a gig over another station but ended up in a bowling alley. And of course, Nick Offerman as the voice, getting almost reminders of his Parks & Rec character, also someone who live by his own rules and something like that, don’t why I brought that up, we’ll be gone for three weeks so you won’t be hearing from me at any given time until the end of the month. But point is, Offerman did a good job voicing Clem in this episode and hope he can do more roles in future episodes despite they may end up being one-offs and never to return again.
The whole Bob being mad over the whole sweet potato thing, yeah, pretty sure that was there not as a plot device or some shit but could also possibly be there as a plot drift. Well…more or less of that but it was there for measures and provide as a comedic relief for the main plot of the episode because let’s face it, the dude is not a big fan over the whole thing with sweet potato because his restaurant didn’t make it on the list. Again, agreeing with the guy, having sweet potatoes as fries is pretty much a stupid thing to come up with and now I think it should be a criminal offense. Should probably run for office and do that. That’ll do America a favor.
And of course, the subplot…yeah, you could say that the thing was somewhat of a potential waste of time though there were some moments that didn’t somewhat downplay the thing since it was merged into the main plot, mostly with both the taste tasting scene with the pies. You could say that this is Linda’s first bite of the cherry when it comes to making pies because…let’s face it, making pies isn’t as easy as it looks like. Mostly with finding the ingredient to get the flavor to kick in, well in Teddy’s case, sugar. And then of course, Mort. Finally got a speaking role for the first time this season after having one last season nearing the end of Season 8. And let’s face the facts here, everyone really need Mort to have a speaking role for once and I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes but please…for the love of…dear loving Christ…start giving Mort some love. Fuck, give him an episode. I’ve been saying about having Jocelyn an episode in the past reviews, and it looks like she’s not going to be alone in this one, time to give Mort one as well. Oh and Darryl too. Cause…he also needs some love. Give my boy some love damn it!
So all and all, I think that this episode is not that bad, but there were some flaws in the mix. But of course, the flaws somewhat downplay the whole episode. And I think it’s mostly of how the episode was executed coming from the main plot with Bob trying to help Clem get his job back. And the subplot, almost sounded like a broken record, a possible waste of time but there were some moments, just gonna leave that there. So I’ll give “Long Time Listener, First Time Bob”…
…a 7.5 out of 10. Well, normally, I would say tune in next week but the show’s on hiatus for the next three weeks but we’ll be back on April 28 with the kids try to escape leg day, running day over at the school, to score some free ice cream while Bob and Linda try to score some tickets to an event in the twentieth episode of season nine, “The Gene Mile”.
