The business world can be a cruel and ugly place to tackle and it looks like the Belcher kids are learning it the hard in this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers where the ideas for their business club takes a sour turn following Jimmy Jr’s product getting picked as the hot new idea, all while Bob and Linda tries to capture the guy who ran off following not paying for his food in my spoilerific review of the Third Episode of the Ninth Season, titled, “Tweentrepreneurs”.
Like I said in the beginning of the episode, the business world can be a cruel place as the Belcher children has to come up with an idea for a product for their small business club. This episode was something to watch alright, Enjoyable to be the least. And what appears to be another episode of where the main plot does a good job keeping the viewers entertained and making the subplot now becoming the butt of the new season. But the subplot for this episode seems a bit…decent. Not that good. But not that bad as well. And we’ll get to that later on. And we’ll begin of course, about the main plot of the episode of where the kids takes on the business world.
So out of everyone of who has pitched their ideas for their small business club from Tina having a clown nose on a horse to Rudy with a baseball glove that has his inhaler attached to it to Zeke…carrying a bag that he deemed, and I’m NOT making that one up, a nut sack. But of course, Jimmy Jr’s idea for a product becoming the one that got chosen by the end of the session when introduced a board with googly eyes and a smiley face. In which he calls it the Wood Chuck. And when I first saw when the previews are out the Friday before the episode was out…
Guys…it’s Plank. It’s freaking Plank from Ed, Edd ‘n Eddy. Plank! That wood buddy that was carried by the hands of a character on the show called Jonny 2x4. Yeah. Ed, Edd, ‘n Eddy man. Good times. That show was classic. And I swear to whatever god you pray, Cartoon Network, do not, and I mean DO NOT try an attempt to do a reboot. Leave it like it is. But yeah, Jimmy Jr’s version of Plank is the one that got chosen. And it looks like Zeke, Tina, Louise, Gene, Tammy, Jocelyn, and Rudy will be the ones who will be working on the thing to make sure for a lot of things when coming with a product. Think of a product like…an art piece or a writing piece like a book or an essay for class. You need planning. You need ideas. But you also need people to help you out. Make sure there’s no mistakes. That’s actually what Gene, Tina, Louise, and Rudy are doing, despite suffering through the sawdust and potential harsh labor, have to make sure everything is similar to the original product that Jimmy Jr came up with. And have both Tammy and Jocelyn selling it in the playground. So Jimmy Jr’s idea…didn’t suck at all? Huh? Well I be damned. But of course, whenever we have a successful idea for a business, controversy comes into play. And no, this isn’t it from the consumers. This is from the workers.
While Tammy, Jocelyn, Jimmy Jr, and Zeke enjoy the high life of selling and getting money from the Wood Chuck, Tina, Louise, Gene, and Rudy have to suffer through the tough conditions and well…Louise ain’t having it. And decided to have Tina to go to them and talk to them for a better working condition. You know, how workers are trying to tell their bosses that they want a fucking raise on their paycheck or have the conditions not on the verge of the filing a major lawsuit for potential human rights abuse. That is until Tammy decided to come into play and decided to manipulate Tina and ends up giving her a promotion with a desk and everything and as for the rest of the peanut gallery, i.e. Louise, Gene, and Rudy?
Stayed behind. Watched Tina getting manipulated by getting a promotion. And make matters worse, conditions now got even more harsher. Man, where’s Bernie Sanders when you need him. Yeah, so the three got left behind and has to suffer more with the making of the Wood Chucks and decided to rebel for a bit by, let’s just say, creating collateral damage by replacing the smiles in with sad faces. Almost like the workers are telling the consumers, “Hey, you like this product? Well, we, the workers, are suffering with creating the thing that you like. Think of it like a message.” And…you know how in my past two reviews I think to myself if the show were to like prepare to jump the shark? Well, it looks like Jimmy Jr’s Wood Chuck product is about to make that move. If you don’t know what that means? You think of it like…anyone here heard of a show called Happy Days? Well, there was that one episode of the series where the Fonz has to jump an actual shark, I think it was a dare or something like that? Well, he did jump an actual shark. But because of that, the show’s popularity goes downhill and never to come back up. Ripe for failure. It happened to shows like The Simpsons or like I said Happy Days. Or in sports teams like the Detroit Red Wings or the San Francisco 49ers following Harbaugh’s firing. Or even in the business world like with Jimmy Jr’s Wood Chuck product not getting any sales from the students following Louise, Gene, and Rudy not taking anymore worker abuse.
See that! Right there! That is where Jimmy Jr’s product has finally hit the turning point, jumped the shark, and now the product has to deal with potential failure. The business is now in deep doo-doo thanks to the trio now rebelling and adding the sad faces into the Wood Chuck. But it looks like the decline is getting worse by the moment when the guys decided to put even more harsher conditions to Louise, Gene, and Rudy and that resulted in Rudy having a brief mental breakdown.
That right there is where Louise, Gene, and Rudy finally have to say to Tina, Jimmy Jr, Zeke, Tammy, and Jocelyn…
With Louise, Gene, and Rudy now out and the business now going to shit, it looks like it’s all up to Tina to go on and save the day. She decided to have a backup plan in place following the whole Wood Chuck product begins to fall into the shitter with…
A miniature version of the first Wood Chuck, Wood Chuck Jr. Oh man, the Wood Chuck business has really jumped the shark. I knew it was bad when it comes to the teens treating Louise, Gene, and Rudy unfairly from them having their time of making the product shorten to Rudy having a mental breakdown with all that sawdust, seriously people, someone please protect that asthmatic boy. But introducing the Wood Chuck Jr…Tina…at least you’re not Donald Trump. Alright. Thinking that you have a successful business despite declaring bankruptcy five times and outsource your jobs overseas. Speaking of outsourcing…
Tina and Jimmy Jr have to get some help from the outside with Harold and Edith if they can step in for the ride and she threatens to take her shop and help to a rival art store over at Bog Harbor, which is something that both Harold and Edith don’t want. People taking their business to the other shop. Even if the shop is in another town. And because of that, Edith and Harold have finally decided to make a deal with Tina and Jimmy Jr. Will the deal work?
No. Things got even worse than before. No sale. No one is excited over the second version of the Wood Chuck. And…god, you really jumped the shark there, Tina. And when Mr. Frond comes in to see how the sale is going, she asks what would’ve happen if the sale isn’t going well, like what they are right now. In which Frond describes that if the thing would’ve gone horribly wrong with the consumer not being interested in the product, the business will go into Chapter 11 Bankruptcy a la what happened to every other businesses in the past. Most recently, Toys R Us. Did you know that it might be making a comeback just in time for the holiday season? Key word “might”. Oh, and people who are in part of the business might get an “F” and probably takes a major gunshot wound into their permanent record. But hey, that’s just a probability. Oh god Tina, what have you done, girl?
Tina then decide to have an emergency meeting and brought everyone back to the room following Tina’s fuck up and asks them how they should fix this. However, no one wants to partake in Tina’s problem since she started it, even though it was Jimmy Jr’s idea and he should be the one to blame, okay, I could probably see some comments attacking me on hating on Jimmy Jr once the review is uploaded. Anyway, running out of ideas to save the company from total collapse like a sturdy building ready to be demolished on demolition day, Tina decided to do another business move to save the company, in which Tina has already caused enough damage for the week, is to sell the company to another individual. And the individual that wants to be part of the company that she will be selling to…of course, it’s Teddy.
Tina wants to hand over the business to Teddy, but of course, both Louise and Gene told Teddy not to fall in line and buy it mostly due to Tina’s failure clouding over the said business. But of course, Teddy doesn’t mind. So Tina decided to accept the fact that under her control, things went totally downhill and let’s just say…she went full Fiorina. As in Carly Fiorina, who, before running for President in the 2016 Election in the Republican side, she was the former CEO of HP and uh…yeah, the company under her is pretty much a tire fire, only except the fire is inextinguishable. Tina tries to cancel the deal, but Teddy kept on trying to get the deal through. Mostly because she’s a Belcher. And Teddy’s a friend to the Belcher family. But Tina still refuses to take the money. And which Teddy refuses to take no for answer and even thinking about doubling the money. I mean Jesus Christ, Tina don’t want to sell the company, but you end up raising the price like you’re trying to buy an item that is up for auction. But after that little fiasco that was taken place over at Fro-Yo Momma, Teddy really don’t want to let go of his money. So I guess the deal was canned. Now leaving them with no glimmer of hope open in the wings for the three Belcher children. It’s like watching a house fire at the last stages before the home comes crashing down while being engulf in flames. Mostly because the house was getting old. But it looks like there might be some glimmer of hope left in the open for the three when Tina noticed a pair of googly eyes stuck on Gene’s butt. And that’s where Tina finally found the solution to fix the problem that she started, and it involves with googly eyes. And no, we’re not gluing them in people’s butt like with Gene.
So Tina have another meeting with the kids where the googly eyes plan finally come into fruition in hopes for a lot of things to do with the money they need. Mostly on paying off the debt that Tina owns for creating a deal with both Harold and Edith. And it looks like everyone has to get some work to do. And guess what? They did. Wrapping up the main plot with the Belcher kids telling both Bob and Linda that everything has been settled. The googly eyes have been sold. The debt has been payed off. And the grade that they got, a B-minus. So the kids, just like everything they just went through time after time, got the situation under control. The business almost fell but it looks like the solution has been found, thanks to the googly eyes. I don’t know if this is the writers’ way to tell the viewers that capitalism is freaking evil. Mostly on the whole Louise, Rudy, and Gene working while Tina, Zeke, Jimmy Jr, Tammy, and Jocelyn enjoy the high life despite that the business may have jumped the shark following them rebelling against their bosses. But it looks like the Belcher kids aren’t the only ones who are dealing with a problem of their own, cue…the subplot.
The previous two subplots so far this season was a time killer and disappointing with the first episode of the new season with no conclusion and last week’s being a time waster, but this week’s subplot seems rather…decent. Not that good. But not that bad as well. Well, technically around…79:31 bad over good. It mostly Bob and Linda tackling the issue of catching the one customer that ate his food but didn’t even pay for it. That’s right, we’re dealing with a dine and dasher. And Bob and Linda are having trouble trying to catch the perp. Time after time after time after time. Three times the duo got duped by the same guy. It’s like you’re watching the Wiley E. Coyote and Road Runner cartoon, minus the usual Coyote getting majorly damaged following being outsmarted by the Road Runner. The coyote got duped by the road runner. Bob and Linda got duped by the dine-and-dasher. Whether it’s him acting like a different person…
Or him pretending to be his brother, despite that the viewers already sense the smell of bullshit coming that guy when in disguise, thinking that his so-called “brother” has decided to learn the error of this ways and decided to pay him back. Of course, Bob and Linda ain’t buying that and thinks it’s the same person. So it looks like they might be getting ready to trap the perp by serving him lunch and pay. In which they found out later that he’s the real deal…only to end up founding out after leaving the money behind…it’s the same guy.
Three times. Three freaking times you guys been duped! And by the same guy. And you were that close to finally trap the guy into your hands but nope, you fell into the trap yourselves. You guys have now bungled your way into now, the third week of bad subplots and we’re only three episodes in. At this rate, sooner or later, we might have the perfect moment in the show where it finally jumped the shark. But that’s all in speculation land. The dark abyss that is. But it looks like once the episode is about to wrap with both plots now coming together, guess who decided to come back?
Yep, Mr. I Don’t Give a Fuck about Paying decided to come back yet again. But this time, for reals this time, he wants to pay for the damages that he did. Turning a new leaf. And wants to be a regular here at the restaurant. And you think that after being duped three freaking times, you think that Bob and Linda aren’t gonna play this charade anymore and just permanently ban him or call the cops or both? But nope, they decided to accept this apology. But they’re not gonna let him slide. No sir or madam or whatever, because while yes, he accepted his problems and want to repair the damages, Bob and Linda, along with Gene, Tina, and Louise, decided to take matters into their own hands…by tying his hands behind his back with tape, same goes for the legs. And for the wallet, have to use his mouth to give it to Bob and Linda to get the money for the food, that he promised he would pay. Like I said, the subplot was decent, not that good, but not that bad. But it feels like for the third week in the row, we have subplot after subplot after subplot that either been a time waster or going nowhere. This one seems a bit off nowhere, but hey, better than last week’s, am I right? Oh, next week’s subplot better not be wash, rinse, repeat, I swear.
Reaction/Thoughts:
So all and all, what do I think about this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers? Wash, rinse, repeat. For the third episode in the row for the new season, we have a main plot that is good while the subplot looks like if you ride the bus only to end up realizing the that bus has some mechanical problems along the way to your destination and crash midway. To be fair, I did not expect the writers telling the viewers about the horrors of capitalism following what we went through following Jimmy Jr’s product of the Wood Chuck being the chosen product that the students have to make and sell. It’s like you’re trying to say…take the Democratic Socialism route and treat your workers fairly unless you want your head to be on the platter.
This episode seems to be Tina’s test of keeping the business going as it looks like everything that’s been going on ever since that little promotion by Tammy a la manipulation and making Tina look easily gullible when now being in charge of the company and it’s like each and every time she tries something to fix the hole in the wall following the departure of Louise, Gene, and Rudy following the harsh working conditions and Rudy having a mental breakdown, the damages gets worse and worse each time that happened. Trying to sell the second version of the Wood Chuck, not good. Making a deal with both Harold and Edith to get the sale pitch going, not looking good. Thus putting the company in total turmoil. Heck, she tried to sell it to Teddy until Tina got some sense back into her thanks to Louise and Gene telling Teddy that the company has gone fully into the crapper. And it almost looks like Tina is running out of ideas to save the company from full destruction, that is until he saw a pair of googly eyes stuck on Gene’s butt and decided to sell the googly eyes, thus saving the company and of course, getting at least a B-minus for the grade. This was the hardest task that Tina has to handle. And other than a few episodes ago when Tina was trying to not fall in love in a lot of boys when trying to reach to Damon, this really is something that Tina has never faced. Thinking that it’s gonna be a total cakewalk, turned downhill until the end of the episode where out of nowhere, she ends up saving the company from collapse and of course, saved the people who partake in the said business from getting a failing grade. It wasn’t easy. And for every business owner out there, you probably felt through what Tina went through. The business world is not an easy place to tackle and the business world can be a cruel, cruel world to enter.
The subplot of the episode, like I said, it was decent. Not the good, but also not that bad. It’s mostly on Bob and Linda keep on getting duped by the same guy who kept on dine-and-dash. And I thought the subplot was gonna be all wash, rinse, and repeat but it looks like optimism meter has risen up a bit to a…let’s say 5%. That’s about it. Bob and Linda were that close to catch the guy when pretending to be his brother, bullshit by the way, but then they believe and just he was about to pay, ran off and left the money, not his money, the money from the register at the counter. Knew that they got duped again. And when he came back, he decided to fix the damage that he caused and decided to become a regular. But have the kids to tie you up to make sure he doesn’t do that again. Let’s hope next week’s subplot isn’t a total shitshow. So all and all, I think this episode is Tina’s hardest test to face and wash, rinse, and repeat but with a sudden rise in the optimistic meter for the subplot. I give “Tweentrepreneurs”…
…a 7.5 out of 10. Like I said, this episode seems more of line of being a Tina-centric episode, mostly because of her trying to save the business following the decline of sales of Jimmy Jr’s Wood Chuck idea following the departure of Louise, Gene, and Rudy following the harsh conditions they had to encounter when making the product and Rudy’s breakdown being the final straw. And Tina trying to save the business and not let the group get a failing grade, that’s not an easy task and it looks like Tina has finally pulled it off. And for the subplot…like I said, decent. And let’s hope next week…please don’t be the same. And speaking of next week, it’s Halloween and the kids, consists of Louise, Gene, Tina, Rudy, Andy, Ollie, Darryl, Jimmy Jr, and Zeke, track down who’s responsible for stealing their treats on Halloween night while Teddy takes things a little too far when facing competition with the rival handyman in the Fourth Episode of the Ninth Season, the Sixth Overall Halloween episode of the series, “Nightmare on Ocean Avenue”.
