We have reached the final five spots of the Top 12 Countdown of the year. The year is almost over in a few days, if you can believe that. And it won’t be long until we find out which episode and series will take home the number one spot in this year’s countdown. And I can tell that some of y’all are giving me the stink eye as if y’all already know what might be taking the top spot of the year. Let alone what took this spot at number five of the countdown. Yes, another late entry to mix things up. And yes, it’s from Adventure Time with the most recent season finale, a follow-up to the number 12 spot, and that would be “The Bear and The Rose”.
A follow-up to the number 12 slot of the countdown that kicked things off with Fionna being transported back to her world to face the music, Huntress now having to find an alternative after losing what she needed to cure Finn, and speaking of Finn, Bubblegum had to make a drastic last ditch effort to save him by calling his mother Minerva to store his consciousness into a cloud. And this is exactly what is taking place to start the episode. Going inside the subconscious, or at least a flashback of Finn doing his mother a favor in getting rid of a few nuisances that are chewing on her servers that hold her subconscious mind. Mind you, that this Finn in the cold open isn’t the buffed version that we’re used to in the current timeline.
This leads us to the start of the episode, with how the process of having someone’s subconscious being installed into the cloud works. Jesus Christ, that’s how the process works? Just having the machine squish you into blood and guts for the process to commence? You think that the process would work would be having wires installed in your head, drilled into your brain, and then begin downloading the subconscious into the machine. Think of... well, the opposite of downloading someone’s mind into the machine, but more of the machine going into the person, like with Amphibia, with Marcy becoming Darcy. But, Jesus Christ. And that was when seeing an orange as a test subject before planning to use Finn’s soon-to-be corpse to do the process. They don’t want to do this, but what choice do they have left other than letting him die? And with Huntress racing against the clock to get the cure to save Finn, they waste no time doing just that. Especially with Finn’s friends and family, mainly the princesses across Ooo, and his nieces and nephews in attendance aside from Simon, Bubblegum, Marceline, Lady Rainicorn, BMO, NEPTR later in the episode, and Minerva on FaceTime. I did mention that all of his friends are there, even though it is just the people I mentioned. I don’t see Susan. Where the fuck was Susan in all of this, since she is her friend after all?
And the process was about to take place to store Finn’s subconscious into the machine when seeing the body about to be flattened like a pancake, that was, until it was interrupted right as the process was about to take place. That was before Huntress Wizard re-entered Ooo with the cure, finally got the Heart of the Forest to save Finn from dying. Which it worked... but the downloading process was interrupted, thanks in part to Huntress crashing into the transmission. Pretty much making Finn brain-dead. He is back in full strength, sure, but left brain-dead due to the process being interrupted. Just be thankful the death was short-lived, thanks in part to Fionna.
Of course, got to bring up Huntress’ side of things after losing her only shot to save Finn after defeating Witch Wizard in the previous episode. Now having to find alternative ways to connect to the Heart of the Forest, with the clock now ticking for her to get back to Ooo. And she tries it on her own for a bit, but each time she does that when tapping into the Heart, no luck in finding her way back to her home.
Whether it’s the baby world, the vampiric apocalyptic world, Farm World, which the kid saw that version of Huntress, thinking that it’s his mom returning, guessing that was one of Farmworld Finn’s kids, having the soul leave her body did give me a bit of a chuckle, to Ooo, but not the Ooo she is familiar with because it had Finn marrying Slime Princess, she was going nowhere when trying to find the Ooo where she comes from. It’s straight up a race against the clock moment for Huntress. Finn could die at any moment if she doesn’t get her head straight to make her way back to cure him. And she is trying her hardest to get back to Ooo. And it has been getting to the point where she plans on using her selves that she accidentally planted across the multiverses she visited for a bit to make a connection, arriving at Ooo, as a result of the downloading process being halted to make Finn brain dead, with the help of Witch Wizard to do the job.
And by helping out, I mean doing it by force since Witch Wizard had no other choice but to help. Even if it means being pulled out of the Undergrowth, as she has remained her captive. But it did help Huntress to gain re-entry into Ooo, and about to use her other selves from different multiverses that she planted from her attempts to do the job. While it did get Finn to have his strength back after dealing with the injury throughout the season that nearly took his life... the interruption of the downloading process did make Finn, well, brain dead. So, uh... whoops. So much for celebration from everyone in the room, because it was in the midst of the process. And if you know anything about technology, you might as well compare it to having to download a new game on Steam that everyone is talking about, and the moment you are excited about playing it once the download is complete... whoops. The computer crashed. The hard drive became corrupted. Besides, we can’t end the Huntress side of the season just yet after attempting to cure Finn without having to wrap up the Fionna side of the aisle.
And oh boy, it looks like Fionna’s side of things isn’t looking too great once returning home from the Undergrowth. Especially since the first thing that she sees upon returning is Gary and Marshall seeing the wreckage caused by Fionna due to her crashing out. They thought it was Queenie already making advancements on demolishing everything before Fionna confessed to them that she was the one who did the attempted demolition out of frustration. And, oh boy, that didn’t sit well for the two after hearing what happened.
The same goes for Hunter and Fennel when coming across them, having to hide behind the trash can to overhear the conversation. Especially with Fennel being upset over what just happened a few episodes ago when catching both Fionna and DJ Flame making out, which was a bad move and terrible timing to come across. Because Fennell was hoping for her and Fionna to become good friends after that little high adventure they had not too long ago, but she thinks that Fionna was using her to get to Flame. And that right before they too saw the damage that was caused by Fionna. So, it’s pretty much collateral damage gone terribly wrong for her to the point where whatever she is doing, it spirals out of her control to the point where it’s hurting her relationships with her friends. Yeah, this season was uh... it was something, alright. It was something.
At least Fionna finally tells Flame, going into the next scene, that whatever is going on isn’t going to work. Mostly because of their past relationship history, which was not a great one. And with how things spiraled out of her control as of late, that nearly cost her friendships with the others, along with trying to save the spot from Queenie, it was for the best to go their separate ways. Mind you that this is nothing in comparison to... okay, if Fionna is this world’s equivalent of Finn and DJ Flame/Felix being the equivalent to Flame Princess... yeah, they are not the same when it comes to that relationship. I know that Finn did fuck up his relationship back in the original series, which cost him his relationship with Flame Princess, which, later, was reconciled with Finn apologizing for his actions in a mature manner. Fionna and Felix, on the other hand, it's clear that their relationship was not good. And the part where those two kiss, a few episodes ago, which upset a few people, but especially Fennel, who was in a relationship with him... yeah, you could see why it didn’t work. Like, bruh, the second relationship between Star and Tom, before calling off the relationship by the end of Season 4, was at least better than Fionna and Flame. At least that chapter comes to a close, but Fionna is still feeling guilty for everything that spiraled out of her control. Just hoping for things to be behind her and go back to the way they used to be.
Of course, that’s going to have to wait because she is being called by Cake via Huntress’ request to go into Finn’s mind because the situation back in Ooo looks dire with Finn now being declared brain dead. Which she did as the last step to bring Finn back from the dead fully. Going into the subconscious with some help, of course, from a worm on how to enter Finn’s mind. Which, she did, and it wasn’t too hard to get in when seeing a hole in the wall with a piece of paper taped over it, the same way a prisoner builds a tunnel to make their escape.
It took a while, which involved her going through a few falls, to find where Finn was hiding, which was all the way in the basement. She noticed a blanket inside a treasure chest, revealing Finn's hiding place. Though not the adult Finn that was shown in the current timeline, but instead, it’s instead the young Finn that we know from the original series. Hiding himself from the world in isolation. Guessing this was mostly of him reeling from having to experience Jake’s death firsthand. Pretty much fucked him up when saying to Fionna that no one loved him more than Jake. As he pretty much views Jake, not just as a brother, but as the only friend that he has.
Fionna tries to reassure Finn that someone does like him in her attempt to cheer him up by telling him that Huntress likes him, before having to fuck it up. Which makes the matter worse. But reassures Finn that Huntress did fight tooth and nail to save him from death. As well as Fionna realizing that just listening to her friends when dealing with a dilemma should have been a better idea than having to go for it on her own. Something that she plans on doing as she prepares to make amends with her friends that she hurt throughout the season, as she prepares to pull Finn out of the chest. No longer making him brain-dead from the disrupted downloading process that was supposed to take place, and fully revived in front of everyone and in front of Huntress. Finally putting an end to that chapter as Finn gets to live to see another day. Because, otherwise, it would make the death in “Together Again”.
But yeah, the rest of the episode after that was a full-on apology tour for Fionna upon returning after saving Finn from death, and realizing that she was in creative mode and now has to patch things up with the people she hurts the most throughout the season, that being her friends. But not before Cake had to go and visit M-Cron and reveal herself as a magical shapeshifting cat instead of who she is not when shapeshifting into a woman, in which M-Cron accepts who she really is and decides for the two to stay as friends. So, that’s one chapter from this season coming to a close. The rest is pretty much an apology tour from Fionna after getting her head straight. And while the apology cake she made wasn’t enough to make it water under the bridge right away when making amends with Gary and Marshall, it is a start for the healing process for her as time progresses. Just not with a cake that is made out of hot dogs, but just be thankful that Fionna has to be the one who has to make Gary food after seeing his flashback through an orb in the previous episode.
And we saw that as the episode was coming to an end, to wrap up a roller coaster of a season with the corner of the intersection back in their possession, along with, back in Ooo with Huntress teaching a class about magic and having to live in the same roof as Finn, and yes, still having Witch Wizard as her hostage, whether it’s Gary having host a baking class, Marshall doing a street performance with Ice Queen, or Fionna making amends with both Hunter and Fennel, as well as her getting the last laugh at Queenie, just be glad that this season is coming to a close with everything back to normal and for Fionna to be relieved that no one is no longer mad at her for the collateral damage she caused throughout the season. And Season 3 should at least be interesting for the show, if we do get a Season 3, with how the season ended once Fionna knocked the fence down. Revealing a whole new world outside of town to show an empty field with mountains in the back that looks similar to Ooo, and should be interesting to explore. Giving Fionna World some worldbuilding going into the show’s third season.
But then comes the post-credits scene. What the fuck is Hunson Abadeer doing here? No, seriously, what the actual fuck is he here?! How the fuck did he even get here?! What are his intentions with Marshall to close out the season? Like... okay... that was a pretty big what the fuck to close out Season 2. Because one makes you think when looking at this scene is how he even got into Fionna World in the first place? You need some sort of portal or a wish by Prismo to get into another multiverse. So, the fact that Hunson even got into Fionna World in the first place and came across Marshall while he was street performing... the only way I could think of is that he stowed away in Fionna’s bag when escaping the vampiric apocalyptic multiverse back in Season 1. Either that or it probably has something to do with the Nightosphere. Or he could just say he can travel across the multiverse because he is a demon after all.
This is pretty much the equivalent of what the hell a polar bear is doing in Arlington, Texas. And who knows what Hunson has in mind for Marshall going into the third season, because he is this world’s equivalent of Marceline. And knowing that Marshall has a striking resemblance to Hunson’s only daughter, well... we know he can’t turn him into a vampire because remember, it was the Vampire King who turned Marceline into one. It would feel more like a I guess sell your soul type of deal, but let’s see how Season 3 would play with this encounter... if the whole merger thing with Warner and whoever the company is, either Netflix or Paramount, doesn’t result in this getting cancelled first.
