Bob's Burgers Season 15, Episode 15 Review: The Casino Affair from Long Ago in Atlantic City | yahoo201027's Bob's Burgers Reviews

We've got a boatload of stuff to do. And by we, I mean yours truly when doing the reviews. With this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers and the double header of The Great North, it’s going to be a massive challenge for yours truly while hoping that I don’t get myself into the hospital, especially in the current state of the country that we’re in. So, I’d place the graphic showing when the three episode reviews should be out. The easiest way to find it would be on Instagram, where you can scroll through the page to check out the estimated ETAs for each review. So, the Bob’s one would be the first. Once this is out, like what y’all are currently reading, I’d already be working on the first of the two episodes of The Great North double header that is expected for overnight Wednesday going into early Thursday morning.

In this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers, the Belcher family pays a nightly visit to Atlantic City, and it looks like it’s more than just a single night out to gamble, as Linda learns a lot more about her family than she knows and who they might not be whom what they are in my spoilerific review of the fifteenth episode of Season 15 of Bob’s Burgers, titled “The Lost City of Atlantic”.

Now, I’ve never gambled in my life. I’ve never been to a casino. Okay, there’s some gambling, but that was when playing a round of loteria with the family. Hell, not even having to cross those slot machines at the gas station, and I was a wee lad growing up in Georgia. But this episode is not about the idea of someone who was to gamble their savings away, and instead, it’s more of the line of diving into Linda’s family history when paying a visit to the gambling town of Atlantic City. And we got some stuff from it, coming from Linda’s dad’s side of the family regarding her grandfather and his ties with the casino that they’re visiting, so once again, going to be sticking around in a new location that is not the restaurant or the apartment.

Especially the fact that uh... we’re getting a lot more than meets the eye if you’re Linda when having to visit the casino and find out there are some skeletons in the closet that haven’t been talked about until the visit. And something more when having to sandwiched into something much crazier regarding the casino itself later in the episode in what is pretty much the shortest, yet craziest family reunion in Atlantic City as if we’re treating this shit like it’s a weekend in Las Vegas. And that’s pretty much the main plot with Linda for this episode.

Similar to “Legends of the Mall” in Season 10 and “Gift Card or Card Trying” in Season 13, we have the Belcher family visiting one location and they divide into each plot of their own throughout the episode with one of them becoming the center focus while the rest do whatever the fuck they’re doing. In Season 10’s “Legends of the Mall”, it’s Tina who would be taking the spotlight with her creating a lie by thinking that the sleeping boy next to her is her boyfriend. In Season 13’s “Gift Card or Card Trying”, it’s Gene with him wanting to spend his portion of the $100 gift card before spotting his former friend Mitchell in the same building. And now, in Season 15’s “The Lost City of Atlantic”, it’s Linda who would be taking the mantle with the casino and her family ties to the location in question.

So, might as well, as the old meme said from last year that was off of everyone’s radar, let’s go gambling, though with the way I said that and you read that, it does feel like we’re the boomers even though I’m a Gen Z and I don’t even know that was even a meme to begin with. This is “The Lost City of Atlantic”.

The episode begins with the Belchers on an evening trip on the road to Atlantic City, just a few hours out of Seymour’s Bay, and if there’s one thing to know about the seashore town of Atlantic City, it’s gambling. A wannabe Las Vegas, and I saw local ads on TV promoting casinos out in Louisiana. Each town here is trying to be a tourist destination. And no offense, Atlantic City, and I’m sure you’re a lovely town, but you ain’t Las Vegas. Even if gambling is pretty much the industry to help make the area thrive, when attracting tourists to pay a visit. But other than that, the Belchers are on their way to Atlantic City with the kids, mostly Louise, thinking that it’s a trip for them to gamble because Atlantic City, much like Las Vegas, is known for casinos that are spread out across town. But that’s not why the family is heading to Atlantic City, just to burn away their savings and probably be going home walking if the account goes down to $0.

Nope, it’s because Linda found a bag filled with old casino chips that she found and plans on exchanging since it looks like it’s not going to be an overnight stay at the place. It’s just going to be a quick exchange, hoping for those chips to be good, so she can exchange them for cash and head out while getting a quick bite to eat at the Dumpling Garden. And this is where we get a flashback because the casino, let alone Atlantic City, has some ties with Linda, and it’s regarding her grandfather. No, not Burt, i.e., Grandpa Potato, it’s the other grandfather. Her paternal grandfather from Al’s side of the family.

We got a flashback scene with Linda when she and Gayle are young, guessing Linda would be around Louise’s age, and Gayle being a few years younger than her, but regardless, we got a flashback in this episode as Linda tells her kids about her time in Atlantic City and the memories she had with him during her visit. Especially with the casino that they’re heading to after taking a stroll through the boardwalk. From eating pancakes at the coffee shop there, which is on the house, as Linda remembers, because her paternal grandfather, Max, is a popular guy on the premises, to the candy shop to get their hands on the various candies in that section, especially the saltwater taffy, to even seeing a mermaid on display, rather, a employee posing as a mermaid, but aside from that, Linda has a lot of memories there at the casino that they’re heading and going back there, even if it’s for one night just to exchange the chips before heading back home, it does feels like it might as well be considered a trip down memory lane for her.

The Belchers arrived at the casino moments later, with the entrance happening to be below ground level, and the place is as Linda remembers. From the mermaid tube to the slot machines, it’s all there upon entering. Hell, the smell of old cigarettes is there, which I’m guessing this place is the go-to where you aren’t restricted from smoking a cigarette. Not a good thing, knowing what smoking, especially secondhand exposure, because the people who don’t smoke would end up inhaling that stuff. Especially kids, who would be exposed to that type of stuff. Oh, and gambling. Don’t expose your kids to expose like what Louise wants to do since the slot machines are for her to use to gamble, even though Linda forbids her, along with Tina and Gene, to use the slots since, again, they’re only here to make an exchange and that’s about it.

They make their way to the chips exchange section of the casino to do the transaction, still in good use to make said exchange, which got the Belchers a total of $250, no adjustments for inflation, despite being very old chips from long ago. And it looks like Linda’s visit got the attention of a few people who are currently running this joint, since Linda brought up that she is Max’s granddaughter, especially with the old guy who runs the exchange calling in an employee named Jerry, who runs one of the tables in the casino, before getting attention of the other employee of the building named Shirely, voiced by Maggie Wheeler, and they know a thing or two about Linda’s grandfather since he was an employee at the casino and pretty much a likable guy across the board. Though a little odd behavior from Shirley when talking about Max, as she passes the tickets for the family for them to use to roam around the casino, even though originally, it was supposed to be them exchanging the chips for cash and skedaddle out of here, but it looks like we’re staying put for the rest of the episode.

So begins the Belchers’ night out at the casino as we briefly check up on the kids getting free candy at the candy shop, to Bob and Linda walking around the place, with Bob spotting a buffet and the dish that he is eyeing that caught his attention, that being the prime rib that is being served to everyone, as Linda spotted something unusual that is going on between three people in suits and ties as if something important is going on as if the guy in the blue suit is being interrogated for something he did. So, something suspicious is going on as the Belchers continue to walk through the casino.

And it looks like Linda is about to get some answers, the first of many in this episode, once Shirley comes in and hands Bob and Linda a couple of drinks, which Bob has to give to Linda because he needs to stay sober to drive back home after a round of thumb war that Bob lost. But that’s not important. Linda asks Shirley what is going on between the three people in suits, and that’s where Shirley tells Linda what is going on. She tells her that the two people in suits are auditors and they’re for the building. And they’re doing this because the previous owner of the casino, named Charlie, died a few months ago, meaning that I guess no one is running the joint. It is pretty much vacant, and that got the attention of a Danish company, which bought the place that was supposed to be family-owned. As if the company doesn’t have a successor or does have one but doesn’t want to take control of it, and now, the place is in deep shit and a company from another country plans on owning it if the transaction is complete. And it’s going to be quite the shakeup if things go through.

At least we got the mermaid that should keep everyone company while a potential buyout is about to take place. It’s not the one Linda is familiar with, because it has been a long time since she last visited the place. So, we have one in the current time with a woman named Sharon, who happened to be Shirley’s daughter... who is about 65 years of age, so that would make Shirley at least in her 80s, you’d think that she and the others would at least be retired by now, but hey, we got a mermaid to look at that when being put on display for the tourists to see.

Especially since the mermaid, Sharon, does look eerily similar to Linda just by looking at her. And this is where we get a little revelation regarding Linda’s grandfather, Max, once Shirley leaves Bob and Linda alone after commenting on her that she looks like him, even though Max is Al’s father, and her memories about the guy that should draw some suspicious about more than what we got this early in the episode the more Bob and Linda continues to look at the mermaid before looking at Shirley before looking at Sharon again before looking at Shirley...

Max and Shirley fucked. Max and Shirley fucked that led to Sharon being conceived. We end the first act of the episode and go into the second act, and it looks like we've got some closets to open for some skeletons to be pulled out. It turns out that Shirley is a homewrecker, at least according to Linda, and she can blame Shirley for her behavior for that, pretty sure Max isn’t all that innocent either, since he is pretty much a homewrecker himself for cheating on his wife, i.e., Linda’s paternal grandmother and having to be kept quiet until the day he died and it took until right now with Linda finding out after putting two and two together. And now, she wants answers about what happened, and she plans on walking towards her because she is not going to let this one slide before the night is over. Of course, this leaves Bob in his lonesome when carrying both drinks, but we know where Bob wants to go later on in the episode.

We check up on the kids for a bit at the tank where the mermaid, now revealed to be Linda’s half aunt, which makes her the kids’ great half aunt, but they don’t know that yet until we check up on them again once they come across Linda. Getting somewhat of a show from their Great Half Aunt Sharon, with her blowing a bubble towards the glass where the kids are standing before having to pretend to have a phone call by picking up a prop shell as a phone. But it’s her design that got her attention, along with wanting to see the attraction on display because, yes, Sharon does look like Linda, or what Linda will look like in the not-too-distant future. That pretty much sums up the kids’ first meeting with their now newly discovered long-lost great half aunt from the comfort of the casino. And speaking of familial affairs...

Linda walks up to Shirley and demands some answers about what is going on regarding... well, everything. Mostly the spoinking between her and Max that have her pretty much put a dent in her paternal grandparents’ marriage that had been secretly kept for a really long ass time. Especially since Linda connected the dots that Shirley, before becoming a waitress, was the mermaid before her daughter takes the role that is holding on currently, and that alone is where we get an explanation for what is going on, from Shirley’s point of view.

In the form of a flashback of Max and Shirley in their younger days, adults, to be exact, when Shirley was once the mermaid and was looking across the building towards the bar where Max was working, oh yeah, Shirley was the mermaid when Max took Linda and Gayle around when they paid a visit to the town back in the day, but that’s not the point. The point is that Shirley saw Max from her tank and might’ve developed some feelings for him since he was a gentle soul in the building who treated everyone with respect, especially Shirley, which made her fall in love with him, even if it was for a short time, and having to put a baby inside of her for nine months that ended up being Sharon. But Shirley has to make sure that she shouldn’t blame her grandfather for cheating on her grandmother, because Max still loves her and would never do something like that. Staying committed to being exact because of what happened between Max and Shirley was brief, and I don’t want to say the phrase happy accident because that brief stint got the two spoinking that ultimately led to the birth of Sharon.

Especially once Shirley brings up Bill, her husband, after falling for a bit for Max, and uh... she did have to tell her husband about the whole thing, especially with, I guess, during or after Sharon was born, when she had to explain to him once being presented. Yeah, what was supposed to be a normal nightly visit to the casino for the Belchers in what was supposed to be a quick exchange and leave to head back home has now turned into an episode of Paternity Court, and there’s more later on in the episode as it progresses. And that’s just one half of the craziness throughout the trip if you’re Linda.

We check up on the kids after getting their bag of candy from the candy shop and seeing the mermaid tank that holds their now great half aunt, and, of course, since they’re in the casino in what was supposed to be a simple exchange before things spiral out of control, it’s only fair for the kids, especially Louise, to try out the slot machines at a casino no less. It’s pretty much the same as... well, wanting to try out a slot machine at a gas station. We all had that feeling growing up after getting bored... no? Seen these spotting around while I was living in Georgia back in the day, and still around when I stayed there throughout last Summer. Y’all wanted to try it, y’all might as well admit it... or not, because of the current state of the country. Louise was about to insert a coin into the slot, much to Tina’s dismay because it’s bad and they’re young, that it could have led Louise to develop a gambling addiction...

Only to be stopped by the security guard, who asks the kids to step away from the slot machines. Telling them that they have to be at least 21 to gamble, though it might vary in most states for casinos and sports betting, but you’re fine with stuff like bingo and the lottery once you turn 18. That should be enough for the kids to get the message and step away from the machine- yeah, they ain’t going to give up that quickly. We've got plenty of time for them to try to gamble as if it’s an arcade game at an arcade, even though the prize isn’t a stuffed animal or a novelty toy, but instead, it’s money, and hoping you don’t get caught by the feds. Especially in the current state of the country. And especially as we’re on the verge of a recession.

Linda walks up to the kids once they leave the slot machines and decides to drop a bombshell on them regarding everything she picked up so far in the family’s casino visit. Telling the three that the mermaid they came across earlier in the episode was their great half aunt, which the kids are not that surprised by, is not what Linda intended to be their reaction, because they took a look at her when looking at the display and the similarities are there between their mother and their newly discovered great half aunt. Just by facial recognition, as if they would imagine what Linda would look like in the future. The kids question how Linda even got the information, to which she replies that she got it from Shirley and the affair she had with Linda’s grandfather, Max.

But once Linda spots Shirley again, this time rubbing her finger on someone’s face, treating the gesture as a flirt as she’s hitting on the guy, and thinking that she’s some sort of... word I can’t say because I don’t want this blog post and probably page down, and I need the money to make a living. But Linda thinks that Shirley is up to something as if there’s something more about this regarding her behavior and decides to after her again as she tells the kids to go get Bob because it looks like this little stay at the casino is going to be cut short. Spoiler alert, the kids aren’t going to do that, and instead, they want to get on the slot machine again and hope they don’t get caught by that security guard from earlier. The kids don’t want to go home empty-handed. I mean, they got the candy from the candy store once Linda takes a bite, and it’s not the taste that she got from back in the day. Tasted like something coming out of a retirement home.

And speaking of Bob, we check up on him at the buffet line as we set up his plot for the episode. Yes, this late in the episode for a plot to set up, despite being short, since most of the attention is on Linda. So, we have Bob at the buffet line as he waits for the main course of his dish that is being served to everyone, a prime rib. And you can tell that Bob is getting turned on just by looking at the meat, pause. And how juicy and tender it is, another pause. And that is pretty much going to be the plot for Bob as he continues to wait for his turn. Treating this as if he’s about to be turned on like it’s an episode of Food Wars.

So, we finally reached the end of the first half of the episode with Linda once again coming up towards Shirley as she once again asks her for answers that she needs, two to be exact, as we are about to enter the second half of the episode The first, of course, being Sharon since she is hers and Max’s offspring and asks if her grandfather abandoned her as if he was never there in her life because she was a product of the small-time affair. In which Shirley answers Linda with an “it’s complicated” answer before truly answering that Sharon is indeed Max’s kid, which we already know now that she’s Al’s half-sister, making her Linda and Gayle’s half-aunt, and yes, making her Tina, Gene, and Louise’s great half aunt. So, we got that answer out of the way, despite the whole idea of whether or not Sharon stayed with Shirley when getting engaged with Bill, or after, and could make Bill the adoptive father or step-father throughout her life.

And then comes the part where Shirley lays her finger on the guy’s face, who happened to be an auditor. Turns out that the auditor that Shirley came across happens to be his grandnephew, who pretends to be an auditor, and this is where we switch over from an episode of Paternity Court in the first half of the episode to now something coming out of Ocean’s Eleven or whatever movie or show this next part is going to be as we enter the second half with Shirley planning on doing for the night that Linda might not be getting out of this would-be rabbit hole. Yep, Shirley plans on robbing the casino. She plans on robbing the casino that she works for as we enter the second half of the episode, and her reason for doing this: she doesn’t want the place to be sold to the Danish company. Mostly because anyone who works for a long time would get a bonus in their paycheck in the event the place gets sold in the event the old owner, Charlie, retires. They didn’t expect Charlie to die and for the Danish company to step in and take over the place once the sale becomes finalized. The place was in serious debt since the passing, and with no one succeeding to take the role since it is a family-owned business, the Danish company might get its way unless something like a planned robbery were to disrupt it and pay the auditors to make sure the place isn’t going into debt. Sounds complicated, I know.

So, we might as well check up on Bob for a bit, just to clear our heads with him finally getting his prime rib. Getting really excited over the dish as the thing was made by a Michelin-star chef, even though it’s from a casino, and who knows if the prime rib that is being served is either the bestest of the best or is going to taste like donkey balls. But it’s how it was carved that got Bob’s attention, and he is getting really excited over how perfectly cut the prime rib is when a piece is being placed on the plate, along with how the thing was cooked. Medium rare, to be exact. And Bob is likely going to hold the line for a bit. I’m not kidding, the next scene after checking up on Linda with Shirley telling her about the heist, he is holding up the line when talking to the employee who is cutting the rib, hoping to let him cut at least one slice of the meat. Just one slice before heading off to his table and eat his dinner. And maybe hoping Linda and the kids join him there, as if they plan on eating at the buffet rather than at the Dumpling Garden as originally planned.

So, back to Linda and her plot and what Shirley is doing with her grandnephew and the other person dressed up as “auditors” to avoid the sale from happening. It’s fraud. What they’re doing is fraud. They’re not even the owners or interim owners, and what they’re planning on doing is likely going to have them on RICO and the IRS’ radar. You don’t want to fuck with the IRS, folks. You don’t want to fuck with them. Even the Joker don’t want to fuck with the IRS. You thought I was making this up, but nope. That’s actually a thing back in the 1990s with the Batman animated series. The government might be out for blood if the plan goes into action and fumbles if the plan goes south.

Okay, so according to Shirley, when explaining the plan to Linda on how to “rob a casino”, in GTA, there’s a cash counting machine where they count all the cash they collected to see if the place would be either be good to be left alone or will be in debt and have a for sale sign be placed on their doors. The cash counting machine that is about to be used to count the money for the casino, it’s rigged. It has been rigged with Shirley’s grandnephew Joe and his girlfriend, who happened to be an engineer who likes theater, messing with the machine so that there’s extra cash added to the pile. No, really, some bills get peeled off to serve as the extra cash to go down the compartment, and next thing you know, it’s pay day. And it appears that everyone is in on this because they want to get paid for their hard work. Well, not everyone, because Shirley’s daughter and Linda’s half-aunt Sharon don’t know this was going on. She thinks that it’s wrong and illegal, which could land everyone in jail. She’s pretty much the Tina in this establishment. And regardless of that, as the second half of the episode progresses, the plan will go into action, and for Linda, she’s pretty much fallen into the rabbit hole of what is about to happen. All this because she still wants answers regarding her grandfather and his affair. Once again, going from an episode of Paternity Court to Ocean’s Eleven going into halftime.

We go check up on the kids for a brief period as they continue to make it their night’s mission to get on the slot machine and gamble because once again, they ain’t going home empty-handed aside from the candy they got that it feels like something coming out of a retirement home minus the butterscotch candies they usually have. The kids thought the coast would be clear and would gamble the night away. Too bad that, yes, the security guard found them again and asked them to step away from the machine and keep on moving.

Transitioning back to Bob at the buffet section of the casino, with him ready to give the prime rib a taste that he'd been eyeing since coming to this place. Ready to chow down, and his facial expression screams as if he’s a kid during Christmas in getting ready to open his gifts. But just as Bob is about to take a bite, one bite, everyone knows the rules, it looks like him wanting to get a bite of the meat is going to have to wait never because he gets a text message from Linda that he should get the kids and meet her at the entrance so they can make a break for it in response to what she heard about her grandfather and that Shirley is about to pull as if she just became a witness of what is about to come. This leads Bob to text back at Linda to extend their visiting hours to 5-15 minutes just so he can go back to the buffet line and hope to ask one of the employees, named Glen, to hand over the carving knife and let him due the carving like it’s a Thanksgiving turkey. Because just like the kids with the slot machines, he doesn’t want to go home empty-handed.

We go back to Linda as we are about to close out the third act of the episode, as, yes, still upset over every revelation that she picked up from Shirley about her paternal grandfather to the point where she had to send out a text to Bob to get the kids and meet her at the entrance so they can leave the building for the night. Guessing by now, she got the response from Bob to wait a little while longer because he just got his food and wants to get the experience of carving a prime rib. So, before planning on leaving the building for the night, and right as Sharon decides to leave the tank as she swims her way up, it seems that now is the right time to come face-to-face with her long-lost half-aunt.

Which she does, going into the next scene in her locker room, once Sharon starts wearing the robe as if she’s done for the night for doing mermaid duties. Meeting for the first time as if they’re looking at themselves in a mirror, as if, in Linda’s POV, what she would look like a couple of decades from now. But yeah, it’s the first meeting between lost long relatives, rather, half relatives in this... I wouldn’t say fucked up, more of complicated when it comes to the Genarro family tree where you think you see a normal looking tree until you spot something odd like a mushroom or a weird looking bump you see in images that you’d probably think it was AI-generated. Other than that, things were going somewhat well between the two, with them talking about the affair between Max and Shirley and that their family isn’t all that perfect. Especially Sharon, when it comes to Shirley, because of the things that she is keeping quiet from her, like... I don’t know... a secret heist that is about to take place just to trick the auditors into taking the money. And speak of the devil...

We end the third act of the episode, where what was supposed to be a quiet little meetup between long-lost relatives gets interrupted by two of the fake auditors, Joe and his girlfriend, named Susie, about their cover being blown after the machine they were supposed to rig decides to backfire. Yeah, quite the family reunion we got here, especially when Linda has to meet her next long-lost relative, Joe, as her cousin... well, half-cousin to be exact. But that’s not the point, at least, not anymore, since it looks like the heist operation has now been blown, even though Joe says to Susie that there’s time to fix this before they get caught.

Not unless you’re Shirley is going into the final act of the episode with Sharon now knowing about the plan after what just happened with the machine that spilled the money from the storage compartment, and for her (Shirley) to enter and try to put the money into the bag. Of course, Sharon is mad at her mother for keeping this hidden from her because she knew that what she is doing is bad and illegal that could put her be sent locked away and rot for the rest of her life. The easier answer would be around 2-20 years at best and a hefty fine, but knowing that Shirley is, well, old, yeah, she is not going to survive that long behind bars. So, Shirley has to be quick in hiding the money before the auditors, the actual auditors, find out that it could trigger RICO and could have everyone here become a headline story. And I’m pretty sure Linda can’t get out of this one since she heard, knew, and saw what is going on as if she’s a key witness and could hold them liable in the event there’s a court hearing, by trying to find the thing to hide. No bags available, so she spots the next available hiding spot for her to stuff the money, and that would be the mermaid tail.

It’s pretty much a back-and-forth argument between mother and daughter over what Shirley is doing with the money, because the money would’ve gone towards their retirement that was originally going to be sent out if Charlie retired before he died, and that put everyone on edge with the potential sale of the casino. Sharon asks Linda to back her up by telling Shirley what she is doing is wrong, but Linda is too busy having something else that is clouding her mind, and that is, of course, her grandfather, i.e., Sharon’s father, because she still needs answers for what is going on. And hoping that her grandmother doesn’t find out about this. Spoiler alert coming from Shirley, she did. Linda’s grandmother found out about this, and rather than the usual reaction of feeling devastated and angry at him to the point where a divorce would have to be filed... spoiler alert, Linda’s grandmother was devastated to the news of the affair... but it was a brief reaction because she ends up forgiving him afterwards because Max is an honest person and would never keep things in the dark from her.

So, at least there’s some closure for this paternity situation for Linda regarding her grandfather, but, of course, we've got this going on because Sharon is still arguing with her mother over her actions and the consequences that come with it. But it didn’t take long for Sharon to change her mind and help out for once, thanks to Linda’s little speech after deciding to forgive her late grandfather for what happened a very long time ago. Now having to swallow her pride and decides to help her mother for once by having to hightail with the money, hoping for the money inside the tail not to get wet, because as much as she doesn’t want to do it for moral reasons, it wouldn’t be right to have her mom to be locked up. And here we go, going into the two-minute warning of the episode, Sharon decides to help her mom out in getting the money out as much as she doesn’t want to do it as if she was planning to take the fall or something, thanks in part to Linda as her side of the story, her learning about the “dark truth” of her grandfather. Let’s just say that the next time Gloria and Al pay a visit or the Belchers decide to visit Florida, it’s going to be an awkward conversation between Linda and Al with her having to bring up that he (Al) has a half-sister and his father once spoinked a waitress who was once the mermaid.

Entering the two-minute warning of the episode and we check up on the kids once more, where they have to come up with a new plan to bring home some stuff of their own before leaving the place for the night. Since they’re not allowed to come near the slot machines and play the device on their own, they decide to find someone to do the job for them. And lo and behold, they spot an old man who is planning to gamble. And that is exactly what happens once the kids and the old man come to an agreement, and the old man presses the lever. And wouldn’t you guess it, the old man won. Well, the old and the kids, but still. They got their money. Now comes the hard part. But before that...

We go back to Linda and Sharon, with Sharon now having go and swim her way to get the money out of the building as the two prepare to part ways. Hoping that their first meeting didn’t involve a would-be crime scene waiting to happen, but at least we got somewhat of a family reunion, and the one that neither of them would expect to spiral out of control like a planned heist at a casino. So, that’s pretty much for the Linda side of things with her learning a lot about her late grandfather than what she knew when he was still alive, as Sharon swims away as the two bid their farewells.

Of course, we got to check up on Bob for a bit, with him finally getting his shot at slicing the prime rib. Once again, he’s feeling like a kid on Christmas opening his gifts. Finally slicing the piece of the prime rib because why not? I mean, the look on his face speaks for itself in this scene. Looking all happy that he’s cutting a piece of the meat as if he never cut this never in his life that is not a Thanksgiving turkey. And remember when I said that the hard part has come in for the kids once we get back to them?

Yeah, this is the hard part, but not really, as we check up on them again before going into the final scene of the episode. And both the kids and the old man argue over the percentage of the guy’s winnings since it was his at the slot machine and was supposed to be for him before the kids stepped in. 10% is what Tina is suggesting because that would give the old man 90% of the earnings, or the other way around with the kids getting 90% of the earnings and the old man getting at least 10%, apologies because I’m not great at math, but the old man wants 25% and wants the kids to accept the offer or he’ll call the guard on them for what they’re doing. And that’s where Gene comes in to come up with a somewhat reasonable offer by bringing up 20% and a Christmas card to his mailbox, even though they don’t know his address, and that old man could be anyone’s grandpa. And thus, we got ourselves a deal.

And into the final scene of the episode, with the kids getting the money, probably the winnings they got, and not the money that was kept from exchanging at the start of the episode. So, at least we know that the kids won’t be going home empty-handed. Though you noticed that they don’t have the bag of candy with them at this scene and we see them with the bags throughout the episode. So, if I were to guess, they probably either threw it in the trash, it’s not a waste since it was free, but the shipment cost... yeah, that’s got to cost a pretty penny, or they gave it to the old man just to accept the deal. Oh yeah, it looks like the casino will be left alone and the plan ending up working and succeeding. And thus, we finally reached the end of the episode with Linda rejoining the episode and meeting up with the rest before heading on out for the night, and thus, on their way home, ends up telling what happened from earlier tonight. And yeah, the moral of this story: well, the only advice I can think of would be to not gamble, and if you do, gamble responsibly. But also, if you’re a relationship, don’t cheat on your spouse because otherwise, it’s going to be your ass on an episode of Paternity Court.

Reaction/Thoughts:

So, all and all, what do I think about this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers? Well, this was an interesting episode to say the least, but I wouldn’t say it’s the greatest, like what everyone across the internet is saying. I mean, it’s a good episode, but I wouldn’t call it amazing. But it’s not boring if you follow the Linda plot of the episode, because each time she wants to know more about her grandfather, it is when we get slapped by a revelation about the guy and a heist that is about to take place.

Yeah, the Linda main plot was the highlight of the episode. We got some lore out of her and her ties to the casino in Atlantic City, and what we know about her paternal grandfather as a former employee who was a nice guy to everyone. A little too nice towards Shirely, even though Shirely hit on him first and ended up getting knocked up to the point where she would be pregnant with Sharon. But it was interesting that we got some lore out of her with this episode, and how things had to be shaken as it progressed from talking about the affair Linda’s grandfather had to an employee plotting to rob the casino just to prevent the casino from being sold to a company from another country. At least the art in the credits was something to paint everything that we know about the heist, as if the style is coming from the 1950s.

Both plots with Bob and the kids separately were fine. I mean, we know that those four aren’t going home empty-handed handed whether it’s Bob wanting to try out and cut the slice of prime rib or the kids wanting to gamble but keep on getting stopped by the security guard before spotting the old man who plans on using the machine. If I were to guess which of the two I like, it’s probably Bob. It’s probably Bob because even though it was short, you just can’t help by look at him wanting to cut the slice like, again, a kid at Christmas when opening his presents. Oh, and the kids’ plot was okay. It was okay. Not a lot to say other than the kids just wanting to gamble and such. So, I’ll give “The Lost City of Atlantic”...

An 8 out of 10. But that’s my opinion, and I want to hear yours in the comments below. No new episodes this upcoming Thursday for Bob’s Burgers and The Great North on June 26. In fact, no new Great North episodes until the rumored July 17 date, but we have to wait and see, so follow me on the socials for any news on that. But we got a new Bob’s Burgers episode on July 3 with another Fischoeder episode in the sixteenth episode of Season 15 in “The Shell Game”.
