Fandom Update: Another Bob's Burgers Emmy Nomination, Season 15 Premiere Date, and Current Season Dilemma

So how’s y’all’s week? Since the Fourth of July holiday, the news kept on dropping to where we are now inside and out of the entertainment bubble. A hurricane hitting Texas, tornadoes in the midwest, record-breaking heat, elections being held in the UK and France, celebrities dying from left to right, an assassination attempt on a former president, and the only way to apply for rehab is to sing the national anthem while drunk that would give Fergie a sigh of relief on who had the worst time singing the national anthem. And then comes this week. We have a lot to cover here for this fandom update from the Emmy nominations that were just released to the premiere date for Season 15 of Bob’s Burgers...and some other stuff that needs to be taken care of regarding the previous season...or rather, unfinished business regarding what was the previous season of both Bob’s Burgers and The Great North. God, I hope the latter gets cleared up once we get to Comic-Con next week.

We begin with the most recent and fresh out of the oven, this being the nominations for the upcoming Emmy Awards. And once again, Bob’s Burgers made the shortlist for Outstanding Animated Program. And the episode that landed them the nod and hopefully get the win come September, to no one’s surprise, it’s “The Amazing Rudy” from Season 14. Y’all can say that the episode is now overrated as fuck as if the show just found its golden ticket, but it was well deserved. This was expected that the episode was going to get the nomination and I did say at the near-end of my review of this episode back in October when it first came out that it’s likely going to get the nomination, whether for an Emmy or an Annie. “The Amazing Rudy” didn’t get the Annie nomination, that goes to “Amelia” from Season 13. So Emmy nomination it is!

What else to say about “The Amazing Rudy” that the episode deserved much praise from the community when it first came out. A lot of hype building this episode leading up to the premiere and the hype didn’t kill it. What was an experimental run in giving a side character like Rudy his time in the spotlight and the main cast, that being the Belchers, being pushed to the sidelines, even if it’s for the first half of the episode, that in the world of sitcoms, especially animated sitcoms, that it would be considered quote-on-quote “entertainment suicide” but did it anyway and did a bang up job. This was number one in the year-end countdown last year from yours truly. Number one on the list for 2023...over the series finale of The Owl House. This might as well be the Molyneux sisters’ magnum opus when writing this episode to have an emotional episode, one of the most emotional episodes in this series, and having one of the most popular characters in the show to take the lead in his very own episode, and on the topic of divorce when having to go and attend a dinner between parents that haven’t lived together in years and having to bring their dates to make things even more awkward. And the fact that it got the nomination for the upcoming Emmys slated for September should be a crowning achievement to get the nod in one of entertainment’s most prestigious awards and should feel honored to at least make the shortlist.

Going against the likes of The Simpsons (to no one’s surprise), X-Men ‘97, Blue Eye Samurai, and Scavenger Reign for the award for Outstanding Animated Program...if there’s any time for Bob’s Burgers to win the award with an episode of their choosing to get the nod, it’s this one. It’s been a while since Bob’s Burgers last won an Emmy and that was “Bob Actually” back in 2017. After that, we fell short of crossing the finish line between 2018 and 2023. I did not forget the moment where at the 2018 Emmys, when “V for Valentine-detta” got nominated, lost, and “Pickle Rick” from Rick and Morty won. Lost to a meme. Don’t get me wrong, “Pickle Rick” is a pretty good episode from Rick and Morty, surprised that “The Ricklantis Mixup” didn’t get chosen that year, but the episode was meme’d to death when it first came out, rather, when the trailer to Season 3 came out leading up to the April Fool’s prank from Adult Swim to show the season premiere on a loop.

So, fingers crossed for “The Amazing Rudy” to win the award and should be most deserved. And if not...well, hopefully, the next episode that did well be the golden ticket to get the award and not stage a freaking coup attempt towards the awards. Pretty sure we’re past that and hopefully, we take our loss...well, knowing the current political climate, let’s hope it doesn’t come towards the entertainment community when it comes to who won the award over the other. And speaking of Bob’s Burgers...

We got a date for when Season 15 of the show will be dropped. September 29 is the date for when the new season will be airing alongside Season 36 of The Simpsons and Season 2 of Krapopolis. Remember folks, Season 5 of The Great North and Season 2 of Grimsburg are slated for the winter line-up along with Season 23 of Family Guy, so don’t fret about why those three have not made it to the Fall schedule. With Season 15 set to air in about a few weeks, or two months at the time of posting, the big question about the new season comes down to the number of episodes the new season will have, especially when entering a new production cycle that the cast and crew are working currently behind-the-scenes. Season 14 was a shortened season courtesy of the strikes affecting production that came to a screeching halt. Whether or not we go back to the full 22-episode season or go below that like with what Season 14 has, and we’ll get to that if you scroll down to the September line-up, I do hope that things will be cleared up once we get to Comic-Con.

But at least we know that Season 15 is coming, and this is according to the FoxFlash page from its release page on the 2024 Fall season schedule, we got a few synopses for three of the episodes as seen above this text regarding the upcoming season. One episode titled “Boogie Days” shows a Bob and Louise episode with Bob needing to overcome his fears when tagging with Louise to partake in a father-daughter boogie boarding class. I would say that Bob’s supposed fear comes down to his childhood experience though it might as well be like the pigeon thing from Season 6. It’s any given Sunday though knowing that it’s a Bob and Louise episode...might as well wait and see what it holds.

You also have the synopsis for “Advice Things are Ad-Nice” where Tina joins the school newspaper and becomes a columnist for the “Ask the Eighth Grader” column. That one might go either way of how the episode will be stretched out. Mostly two options on what the episode will be about. It’s either Tina becomes power-hungry with the column to the point where I think she abuses her power as a columnist or it might as well be another episode where Tina and Tammy beefing against each other. Though wouldn’t rule out her wanting to help a random student or something that we know who had appeared before and wants to use it for good to help that random student out.

And then the third synopsis for a future episode and this one, when the script cover came out from one of the table reads, this has a lot of people jumped to their feet and it’s “Mr. Fischoeder’s Opus”. And the synopsis from this episode reads that the Belchers have to cater for a very important event that Fischoeder is hosting if it means getting two months of free rent. What kind of event that Fischoeder is hosting that is deemed important that he wants the Belcher family to cater the event? Who knows. But I have seen some hype being built up for this episode, mostly because Mr. Fischoeder is involved, and you think that hopefully, and I mean hopefully as a keyword, that it’s going to be a good episode but we’ll see the judge of that once a release date for the episode comes out. Other than that, looks like we got some snippets of what to expect for Season 15. Comes down to what will be the first episode of the new season will be. Either one of those three or one of the episodes that I guess there’s some hype being built up and that is “The Big Stieblitzki”, meaning we’re going to have ourselves yet another Rudy episode. However, there might be a chance that those episodes that were mentioned or any episode from the table read or the EIDR site might not be in Season 15 and instead...

I’m gonna have complete and total burnout before we get to Season 15. I’m gonna have complete and total burnout before we get to the new season at the end of the month. So uh...remember in my review of “Butt Sweat and Fears” back in May that there were questions if whether or not that episode was going to be the season finale despite feeling like one? We ain’t done. We ain’t done with Season 14 of Bob’s Burgers and the same goes for Season 4 of The Great North. How? How and why?

Aside from saying the 13 episodes for Season 14 and 15 episodes for Season 4 are deemed as “short” to their liking, apparently, rather than having some episodes either hold over to the new season or scrape it all together, this was supposed to be the fall or spring lineup for last AniDom season if the strikes didn’t happen or I guess when we thought that Krapopolis was going to have 10-12, maybe 12-13 episodes only to have 23 episodes in its deck in their first season. It looks like early September before we get to the official start of the 2024-25 AniDom Season kicks off come September 29 rather than putting it in the summer but FOX decided to air the Copa America tournament in its place and after what happened with the likes of Duncanville and Housebroken...summer might not be a good fit.

So it looks like the episodes that have yet to air in the current production before we jump over to the new production going into the new season that the cast and crew of both shows are currently working behind the scenes. New episodes of Bob’s Burgers on the weeks of September 8, 15, and 22 and The Great North on both September 8 and 15. But if you look at the image above, Bob’s Burgers will have one per week while The Great North will have back-to-back weeks of doubleheaders. Hence, why y’all better pray for your boy that I don’t get burnt out before we get to the start of Season 15 at the end of the month.

However, here’s what is interesting about this little situation regarding the two shows when it comes to the current season following the supposed end of a strike-ridden 2023-24 season. I mean, Bob’s Burgers I get because when Season 14 began back in October 2023, we thought that originally it was going to be 17 episodes. We have 13 episodes following the airing of “Butt Sweat and Fears” back in May and the three episodes slated for September 8, 15, and 22 would go up to 16, one episode short from the supposed 17 episodes that we originally thought.

But The Great North is what interests me regarding their situation. Because you have, as of this moment, 15 episodes in Season 4 with “Fifty Worst Dates Adventure” as the latest episode to air back in May. You’d think that Season 4 would be done after the May 19 date and just call it a season. That was until Fox decided to release its schedule last night and have The Great North slated for back-to-back new episodes in back-to-back weeks as if they’re telling you as if we’re not done with Season 4 just yet. And what’s funny about this little situation, aside from the fact that the episodes regarding the production code have been scattered throughout the season, take a look at the preview from The Great North’s official page back in January...

All of the scenes from the preview are there from any of the fifteen episodes that aired between January and May are there. So you’d think to yourself why do I have to bring this embedded tweet with a video attached when bringing this up? There’s one scene in the video in question that is omitted from any of the first fifteen episodes of the season and it’s a shot of the Tobins and Jerry (sans Dirt) at Maude’s in their summer outfits with Honeybee and Jerry having foam fingers attached to their arms. That scene was not there in the first fifteen episodes of Season 4 and with the four episodes that are slated for September, at least that shot from any of the remaining episodes shouldn’t be omitted because otherwise, you might as well treat it as some of the film industry would call it “trailer fodder”. But that’s funny to say to the fans as if Season 4 isn’t over-over just yet despite a few sites and profiles having listed it as the season finale alongside Bob’s Burgers leading up to the May 19, 2024 premiere date.

A promo from a Canadian TV channel leading up to that date has “Fifty Worst Dates Adventure” as the season finale. A channel called CHCH up in Canada showed the promo for The Great North and have it labeled the episode that just aired as the season finale despite that the official Animation Domination page on Twitter and Instagram the weekend of the season finale listed only The Simpsons and Krapopolis having their finales listed, not Bob’s Burgers and The Great North. Even though...

Take a look at the Instagram story from Wendy Molyneux that said Season Finale even though, to repeat myself, the official Animation Domination page only has The Simpsons and Krapopolis listed as the season finales on the night of May 19th. Hell, if you look up the FoxFlash page and go through the release tab, the one that said “Fox Gets Pumped for Summer” with the release date for March 4, scroll down to the editor’s note, the second editor’s note that has the season finale dates listed...May 19, Bob’s Burgers and The Great North. And now, we have the dates of September 8, September 15, and September 22 for Bob’s Burgers and The Great North to air new episodes alongside the premiere of Universal Basic Guys as if we’re not done with the current seasons of the two shows...God, I hope this whole mess gets cleared up at Comic-Con for both The Great North and Bob’s Burgers (the D23 panel and Comic-Con for Bob’s Burgers) because this past season has been more questions than answers regarding the scheduling and the number of episodes and I do hope that things will finally be cleared come next week at Comic-Con or we get to the press release for September 8th.

This is going to be yours truly around the September timeframe leading up to the start of Season 15. Wonder if the premium feature on Twitter is worth it...probably not since it’s pretty much a scam to be honest. So, let’s hope that everything will at least be answered at the panels come next week. But what do you think about the whole news that dropped in the past 24 hours? Are you surprised or not surprised about “The Amazing Rudy getting the nomination for the Emmys?
