Fandom Update: A Quiet End to Central Park (The Show, Not the Actual Park)

Not the news that everyone wants to hear on this Sunday. With the new episode of Bob’s Burgers on the way and the Final Round of the 2023 Battle of the Week Voting Tournament already underway is where the news decided to take a stake and stab it into the hearts of certain fans regarding one show that hadn’t made any news in over a year since the end of the previous season. I’m talking about Central Park here.

It’s a show that hadn’t been on everyone’s radar since no one heard of the show and I don’t blame them because they’re on Apple TV+ and not on well-known streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, or Disney Plus, but it’s a show that you wish could’ve watched and you should...just had to go to...a streaming site. The show ended its third season back in November of 2022 and right after the season finale, which to me when watching the episode when it came out feels like a series finale if I had to be honest here, and then came the fears of silence from the show since that day. The silent voices came from the background saying that the show might be done for. People who worked on the show went on to greener pastures. I guess the writers and actors strike even though it may have nothing to do with the situation. Oh yeah, you can feel the atmosphere from the fandom filled with fear and uncertainty on what is going to happen with the future of the show despite that little rumor on Twitter about the show being “in production” and well...that rumor is dead. And this is why...

That’s right, folks. Your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. The show is officially canceled. Or done...whatever you want to call it but it’s the end of the road for Central Park. And it’s not a good feeling for the fanbase who were highly invested in the show. Central Park fans, I hope y’all were prepared for this moment since the end of Season 3 and it looks like that moment has arrived. The radio silence from the social page on the show, primarily the show’s Instagram page and Apple TV’s PR page, and its official page not bringing up the show would be the dead giveaway as time progressed to where we are now. That was not a good sign and I saw this movie before regarding everything that’s been going on since the end of the show’s third season.

Final Space had gone through that back in 2021 after the show ended its third season and after months of not having any news of a potential fourth season throughout the summer season until we got the news that the show had officially been canceled. At least the series is getting a conclusion in the form of a novel set for next year despite the bullshit call from WBD of calling the move a “tax write-off”. Mind you that it didn’t take long for the U.S. government to potentially step in and go after WBD for the tax write-off jamboree, especially once the news of Coyote vs. Acme made headlines as part of the “write-off”. God, I hope Central Park doesn’t fall into the category of “write-off” from Apple.

And I guess you could throw in the narrative that the show got screwed over like some animated shows in the past years that deserve better treatment. Sure, it was trying to be a serialized show with the storyline of a park manager and his family and you have the antagonist wanting to buy Central Park for her to build her estates and try to play koi with the city government to make sure things go her way, before turning into a sitcom though some storylines are there but having to treat it as if you’re watching an anime made by Shinchiro Watanabe. And whether you like having the show being the animated version of Broadway with an average of four musical numbers per episode in the first three seasons, it’s there. I mean, most of the actors on the show had a Broadway background. I know that Kathryn Hahn didn’t have a Broadway background but man, she can sing when taking the role of Paige. But it’s a show that is totally underrated and it did give us solace when it came out during the lockdown.

It just sucks to hear that a show was under people’s radar, during or after the lockdowns, it got us through the lockdowns. And as a fan of Bob’s Burgers, I gave the show a shot the day it came out and I enjoyed it from beginning to end with the three seasons that the series had. The show deserves better. Let’s just put it out there, the show deserves better. And sadly, with the show’s cancellation, it’s about to become...well, a lost piece of media over time. Especially once Apple decides to pull the series from its site. You can still find the three seasons on a random video streaming site, y’all already know where I’m going with this as the last source, but it just sucks to hear that it’s the end of the road for the series and of course, it ended through the whispers of the air. At least it didn’t end in a cliffhanger, but that would’ve sucked balls. But yeah, it’s the end of the road for Central Park...the show deserves better. I would say that I hope there would be a second chance in life but knowing that some who used to work on the show had moved on to do other projects, that might be a difficult task and it would come down to whoever wants to take the show from Apple. Disney Plus? Maybe but that would take a lot of convincing and I mean A LOT. So until then, go in peace. Guess good things come to an end, even if it’s by whispers in the air and the lack of news that lasted for a year and a few weeks. At least y’all made the playoffs recently in the voting tournament, so there’s some silver lining. But I swear if this happens to The Great North, ooh boy, we’re gonna have problems.

Follow me on Tumblr, Twitter, Mastodon, Instagram, Threads, and Bluesky for updates and behind-the-scenes stuff. The review for the latest episode of Bob’s Burgers, “Fraud of the Dead: Zombie-docu-apocalypse”, is in the works and should be out either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning during the overnight hours. The final round is here between Jolyne Cujoh and Louise Belcher, so the poll is available on the social sites. And, of course, y’all should know the drill by now...
