Bob's Burgers 2022 D23 Expo Panel Recap and Breakdown | Fandom Update

A shame that we didn’t get a Comic-Con panel back in July. Oh yeah, that happened unless anyone were aware that leading up to that unfaithful July 22 day is that everyone was getting ready for the panel from the Bob’s Burgers crew and what to expect from the show regarding the upcoming new season. Fresh coming out from the release of the movie in theaters and streaming...only for last minute changes had to occur and what happened to replace the panel was, of course, reshowing the Some Like It Bot two-parter to the masses. Though some who were in attendance were lucky enough to get pins of both Jimmy Jr and Zeke in Blade Runner get-up. Those lucky sons of bitches but yeah, kinda suck that they had to postpone it. Mind you that I was in Georgia when that happened and was hoping to recap it but we didn’t. At least Loren Bouchard over at Twitter was vocal about what happened and hopes that they’ll be back in next year’s panel.

Luckily, there’s the D23 Expo panel that Disney hosted this past weekend where each and every property that Disney owned would showcase new stuff to the public whether being in-person or like yours truly, watched it on stream while scrolling through Twitter. From Star Wars to Marvel to any random film that they can conjure up...including some animated films that are set to be turned into live-action, it’s like they learned nothing from the mess that was almost every live-action adaptation to each of their past films, it’s all there for everyone to talk about and creating a lot of hype surrounding it on what is about to come. And this is one of them coming from the 20th Television Animation department and that is, of course, Bob’s Burgers. Set to premiere at the time of posting...two fucking weeks from now. Great googly-moogly, time has flown by so fast that it has gotten over the speeding limit.

So I guess we got a lot of stuff and looking at the panel, there’s some to inhale, but not too much. Reminder, still in a pandemic, to unwrap on what we’re about to expect from the show now that we’re in the post-movie era series following the release of The Bob’s Burgers Movie. You know, the sidewalk being patched up and the restaurant being saved and whatnot. And speaking of that, the one thing that has gotten into everyone’s mind since the release of the movie and that is, of course, the intro. What will the intro be like going into Season 13? Will they include the sinkhole? Will they speed it up? Will the patched-up sidewalk be there? Well, it looks like we got our answer at the start of the panel.

Right off the freaking fracking bat, the intro has been updated for the upcoming season of Bob’s Burgers. Looking at the intro, yes, it’s the same ol’ intro from before. The second version because the first version, Seasons 1-2 had the Belchers just standing there whereas Seasons 3-12 have Gene pressing a note to let out a dog noise and Louise…well, being Louise with Seasons 11-12, going into Season 12 where the sidewalk is about to crack open like a walnut or drilling for oil deep into the ground to cause some fracking. So it was nice that now that we’re in the post-movie era of the show that the sinkhole and the banner that read “Grand Re-re-re-re-opening” hovering over the restaurant, as well as the patched-up street and sidewalk a week after Grover’s arrest and the sinkhole erupting due to...well, America’s crumbling infrastructure. Mind as well state the comparison between the sinkhole in the intro and the actual sinkhole from the movie.

Because the updated intro from the show for Season 13+ has the Belchers standing in a portion of the sidewalk when the sinkhole erupted from the street but looking back at Season 12 and portions of Season 11 where the sidewalk is showing signs of crumbling, not the street. The movie, of course, took out the sidewalk where the Belchers stand from the updated intro. So they would’ve either separate because of the size of the sinkhole or gone inside and have them go through the window. But besides that, we got an updated intro for the show. Though I could imagine some who watched the show and never saw the movie going to be confused once they decide to binge-watch the new season. My guess, the people who often watch the show through YouTube where you have those animated watermarks at the corner and often zoomed in on certain scenes every 5-10 seconds. Though Loren did jokingly state that pirating is okay as a jokey joke. My guess is that he got that idea from Owen Dennis following the shitshow that was the Warner Bros Discovery animation purge of August 2022.

Now we got some clips from the upcoming thirteenth season of the show. One fully colored version, almost a fancy way of saying the finished product, and two storyboard animated clips. Here’s the first one from the upcoming season premiere episode in “To Bob or Not to Bob” where you have the Belchers and Fischoeder over at the empty Store Next Door with the family rehearsing their lines for a play that Fischoeder cooked up. And the synopsis did state when the press release came out that they cooked up a play to get Felix to confess something he did. More on that on the first review of the new season. You have the Belchers, primarily Tina, Gene, Louise, and Bob doing their lines to impress Fischoeder with Linda as the director and boy...knowing that it’s the rehearsal, yeah, you can sense that something is about to go down south before the big day arrives. I mean, you have Tina wearing an eyepatch to resemble Fischoeder but can’t see without her glasses in one scene before transitioning to the next with her glasses back on. At least Louise became somewhat professional in bringing in her melted Kuchi Kopi as a prop for the show. “To Bob or Not to Bob” airs on September 25 and you bet your sweet bippy that I will live tweet/blog over on Tumblr and Twitter pages with the review coming out the Tuesday or Wednesday of that week.

Now to the animatic, storyboard animated clips from another upcoming episode that is set to air around the winter. Around 2023 it seems since it will be a winter episode based on the two clips and this is one of them being presented. You have the Belcher kids ready to develop cabin fever during a snowstorm. You have Tina being upset over something that is preventing her to go outside. Mostly because she’s been accused of being a cheater by someone at school and wants to clear her name but can’t because school is canceled due to a winter storm. Did you know that New York City just canceled having snow days for the upcoming winter season? It’s crazy, I know. But that’s not going to stop Louise and Gene from doing something to prevent them from getting bored. They tried to go out in a middle of a blizzard... a massive mistake for them to do that. So that leads to them wanting to create a small fort out of cloth and ready to use the couch cushions. As for why they’re wearing their coats even though they’re inside? That’s where the next clip comes in to tell you what happened.

Where you have Bob contacting Teddy about a broken heater that causes the house to be unable to warm up the house. Well, at least the Belchers can at least use electricity to power up the house during a winter storm. Unless you’re where I live where if the temperature drops, the city has to shut down. And also abusing the heater can cause a statewide blackout. It was not pleasant. Don’t think that going through almost 36 hours in the dark in the coldest week in history was considered a happy time. So you have Bob contacting Teddy to come over to fix the heater but it looks like Teddy might be taking a rain check because of him having job after job in the middle of a snowstorm that he has to send out someone to fix it. Though you think that the most obvious answer when having a broken heater would be to buy those small heaters you find in stores but knowing winter storms, those selves would be g-damn empty. Also, fears of a potential power outage if the grid can’t handle it.

Oh yeah, and it looks like Bob got a new phone, and finally, he’s living through the sign of the times in a form of a smartphone. Yes, I know that flip phones are often making somewhat of a comeback, mostly for the elderly and people who can’t even either afford a smartphone or can’t be too trustworthy to go it and must serve as an emergency phone. Of course, by now y’all should know why Bob has to get a new phone. And that’s mostly because of what happened in the movie where Grover threw Bob’s old phone into the ocean following Louise suspecting him of the murder of Cotton Candy Dan. So it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise that during the summer months is when he has to get a new phone, with an affordable plan of course, and thus...here we are with this scene. But other than that, that’s all that was presented from the panel other than random stuff from the Q&A before it was cut off by the expo. Shaking my freaking head on their end of the event.

We’re less than two weeks until a brand new season of Bob’s Burgers and of course, we got a long season ahead now that we’re in the post-movie era of the show.
