Bob's Burgers Season 12, Episode 7 Review - Three Belchers and the Big Bed Construction of the Night | yahoo201027's Bob's Burgers Reviews

So I don’t know how to tell y’all about what happened with last week’s episode when it comes to certain things that needed to be addressed. Or rather, one of the many things that needed to be talked about from last week. I’m talking about how the kids were screwed over with that deal that Louise made with Fischoeder or Teddy having a mustache and make it all about him. But no, that focus from last week that is now going to stick like glue, until the items fall off from the wall, going onto Mickey. I mean, sure, Mickey’s voice last week threw everyone off, myself included. That left a lot of viewers being dumbfounded over what happened with Bill Hader since he was originally cast in the press release. Bouchard did state that it was already too late to write Mickey out and didn’t even notice that Hader would be busy at that time. He even stated that once we’ll get a second airing of the episode is where the issue will be patched up. Yeah, the comments over at Twitter and Reddit, mostly over at Reddit, didn’t take that lightly. They’re treating the issue as if Hader were accused of something or decided to leave the show. It’s only a one-time thing. It’s just one episode and y’all treated it like if your favorite actor not appearing on the show and think to yourself that it’s the sign of the end times. Hopefully, once this review is posted is when we would expect this little rubble to quiet down. Just tired of it. Just tired of hearing about it.

In this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers, the Belcher girls, consisting of Linda, Louise, and Tina, are building a bed for Louise with Linda hoping to build something without abandoning it and try to defy the rules of sitcoms as Bob and Gene host a game night with some people in what is pretty much the show’s version of Dungeons and Dragons in my spoilerific review in the seventh episode of Season 12, titled “Loft in Bedslation.”

So I’m just gonna put this out there when it comes to this week’s episode...this pretty much exceeded some expectations. It has pretty much exceeded some expectations when coming out from last week’s episode where, how should I put this lightly? Oh right, a potential snoozefest. Though not in a harsh way to saying that. The last thing the show needs is the cast and crew committing a cardinal sin. They averted that for this week’s episode whether being the main plot with Linda, Louise, and Tina building a new bed for Louise in her room or Bob and Gene watching a game night in their eyes while the host of the game somehow starting to experience some anxiety issues in losing a crowd.

Sure, it has some issues from here to there as the episode dragged on from start to finish whether being the construction of the new bed or Bob and Gene watching a game night collapsing onto itself with someone who is pretty much a nervous wreck over wanting the night to go smoothly without any of the players jumping ship, but it’s not enough to downplay the episode. And I thought at first that it would follow the script of Linda, Louise, and Tina to build a new bed for Louise in her room, have things to fall apart once we get to the final few minutes of the episode, and then decide to abandon it after patching things up. The latter didn’t happen and we got ourselves a new bed for Louise to enjoy and I do hope that gets to stick around. Also, I was hoping for Bob and Gene to at least give the game a try. Try out new things despite you’re only there to cater to the group for a night. Let their imaginations run wild while I’ll talk like an idiot because I don’t know anything about D&D. So let’s get our tools and build up this review by breaking the episode down piece by piece, this is “Loft in Bedslation”.

The episode begins with Bob and Linda going through a box of receipts that they received in the past month with Linda, being Linda, singing in a joyous tone when singing about collecting piles of paper as for Bob on the other...yeah, that doesn't sound like someone who is happy about receipt collection day because it looks like the business for the past month...is going through some issues on its own. Mostly due to the burger of the day not selling well. A lack of customers coming into the restaurant in each passing hour throughout the day in the past month. It mainly comes down to the Belchers not making enough money to meet ends meet and that’s not the current issue regarding the economy talking with inflation and supply shortages. Causing some concerns for Bob when it comes to the financial issue regarding the sales, but let’s not talk about that and instead have a conversation about random photos from Linda’s past that somehow got mixed into the box filled with receipts.

One of which is a picture of her when she was young, around 10-11 years of age, with braces attached to her mouth while having a ribbon, guessing that she won something without hurting Gayle’s feelings, in her time growing up in Hunkawtaway alongside Gayle and also Gloria and Al. And not gonna lie here, Season 12, despite that the episodes that he had so far have been hit and misses as of late, I do have to give it some credit when it comes to character backgrounds. Mostly onto Linda because out of the two Belcher adults, being Bob and Linda, Linda’s an interesting case because whenever she mentions her past, it’s just a mention coming out from her mouth than showing flashbacks unlike with Bob a few times in the show’s history with the most being “Father of the Bob” in him having a bad childhood and had some tensions with his dad. Whereas Linda, other than “Purple Rain-union” and “The Pumpkinening”, we only get mentions of her past like her throwing rocks at passing cars or mentioned a dead dog with a bouquet resembling it with some photos like we’re seeing it right now with her at the age of I’m guessing 10-11 years old because the quality of the photo screams 1970s. Not to mention, the images of the projects that she and her dad were supposed to build but never got the chance to finish. It almost feels like we’re setting things up to what this episode has in store later on. I do hope that we can get more diving into Linda’s past in the future...hopefully once and for all, we can get a freaking fracking maiden name for once. Because we ain’t waiting for the movie to drop for when we finally get a name. It has to be revealed sooner or later and we ain’t leaving our seats until we get a name. Speaking of fantasizing over things that we all want to see...

We switch over to Tina’s erotic friend fiction where you have both her and Jimmy Jr as members of the bomb squad in what appears to be a war-torn city, which is pretty much anywhere on this planet, as they make their way to a nearby car that somehow has a bomb inside of its trunk and set to explode unless those two need to think of something quick to defuse it. And normally, when it comes to these types of things, whether being in the police force or in the military, it comes down to either doing it in-person to cut the wire or deploying a robot to do the handy work. Not in Tina’s story because while they’re going with the in-person route when trying to defuse a bomb, rather than using your usual equipment like a pair of pliers to make sure the pipes don’t go boom, they instead go for some lip action to defuse like it’s goddamn Lady and the Tramp, only with the fate of what is left of life in the city hanging in the balance. You know people touched the wires when making the bomb, right? Dirty hands. Dirty hand...we’re still in a pandemic. Though to be fair, this was closest the Tina/Jimmy Jr shippers will get from them kissing. So I guess that’s number 10.5 for the time being. However, that fantasy gets cut short because...

Louise barged into Tina’s room as we head back to reality with her stuff in tow, interesting to see that Louise has her supplies but also carried Kuchi Kopi along for this small trip to use the desk. And already there are some tensions that came out of nowhere for no reason when it comes to who gets to call dibs in using Tina’s desk. And if you think that because it is Tina’s desk and it’s in her room, she has the full right to use it. Except that’s not the case because unless you didn’t know, Louise doesn’t even have a desk because of her having a small ass room to do some work. Especially some homework for a class project on her doing a report on dinosaurs for “dinosaur week” in her class. Her writing an essay, making a poster board, and write a letter to her favorite dinosaur, which reveals to be the Spinosaurus. And she has to do it because there’s a prize at stake in a form of dinosaur donuts, which is pretty much just regular donuts just to fool the fourth-graders into doing their work. Though not having a desk in your room because it’s too small in size when trying to convince you that her room isn’t a walk-in closet when she came into the world. But besides all that, Louise has no desk in her room and uses Tina’s room to get her work done and forcefully kicked Tina out down to the restaurant. Though you’re probably wondering how come Louise doesn’t use either the dining room or living room to do her work, but okay, Tina’s desk it is.

And this little issue regarding the lack of having a desk in Louise’s room and also the lack of spacing gets brought up into the next scene with Tina being upset that she got upset for being kicked out of her own room for Louise to do her project. And the rest of the Belchers are aware of this little issue that has been going on since...well since Louise was born and decides that now is the time to give Louise’s room a bit of an upgrade. Rather, a makeover by getting Louise a new bed. A loft you might say. Well, technically a bunk bed, just get rid of the bottom portion of the bed out and keep the top part, but a loft wouldn’t be that bad. Causing the family to come to an agreement to get the room a makeover by getting Teddy to come in and build the loft for her room...there’s just one little issue when it comes to the planning process for the construction of the new bed once Linda gets back upstairs and tells Louise that she’ll be getting a new bed...

Yep, at the wrong possible time to call him to get to work on their behalf, Teddy is out of town. Or rather, out of the country because believe it or not, Teddy is out of the states and already in Canada, presumably in Quebec or Nova Scotia knowing the direction of the highway, because his mom ordered a scooter over at eBay. Not our eBay but the Canadian eBay to get his mom a scooter online that it almost feels like you would find it over at...I don’t know, Craigslist. But I would never expect for something like a mobile scooter to be placed for order. Though normally when it comes to online ordering, you find the item you want from the site, being eBay, Amazon, or any other shopping site, place your order, wait a week for the delivery person to visit your neighborhood, and you pick it up after it was placed by the doorstep. So I’m guessing that because Teddy got the scooter from a Canadian eBay site, doesn’t know how international shipping works when it comes to packaging, he had to go and pick it up from I guess an undisclosed location somewhere in Canada. Presumably around Montreal and have no time to make a U-turn to help the Belcher girls out to make a loft for Louise. So they’re pretty much without any help whatsoever and with little to no budget to get another contractor, they’re pretty much stuck in a pickle. Well, that was before a lightbulb decides to shine over Linda’s subconscious and decides that they don’t need to wait for Teddy’s return and plan on doing the project together. Hoping to go toe-to-toe with a little narrative that’s been stuck with her for a while that leads back to the start of the episode with her and Al not able to finish what they just started. So when the loft idea gets brought up and with Teddy now be listed as limited in the starting roster, this might be Linda’s time to shine to finally put that narrative to bed. And also for putting the other narrative to bed in whether or not the newly constructed bed will be kept once this episode is over with.

Although much to Bob’s dismay because while he agrees to the notion that Louise should be getting her room a makeover and giving it more space by building a loft, he rather not have the girls to bullrush their way to get the loft being built without having Teddy around and instead, wait for him to return the following week to do the dirty work. Which would mean to have Louise and Tina to possibly rip each other throats off like you and your sibling were to fight over who gets to call shotgun in riding the front seat on your way to a McDonald’s. And also telling her to at least help out because again, going back to the beginning of the episode with the family unable to gain any money to make ends meet. And no, don’t even consider twisting Bob’s words on him not liking the idea of Linda building the loft and wanting Teddy to do the work once the next week comes. Bob doesn’t roll that way. Though that’s not going to stop Linda, along with Louise and Tina, from building the loft bed even if it kills them. As well as leaving Gene to be with Bob just in time to set up the subplot with them hosting a game night with a game master and her group. More on that as you scroll down in this review.

Of course, you can’t have your construction for the bed without the proper tools and items that you need and normally when it comes to building a loft, you usually go to stores like Walmart, IKEA, Target, any of those stores that contained those DIY setup kits with a manual that can pretty much piss people off when getting each part wrong. Which would be something but that thing was averted because they’re heading down to the hardware store to get some supplies. And sure, why not. Gotta give some pointers to Louise for what to imagine what her loft bed would look like in her head by displaying what appeared to be a military-grade loft with weapons on the top bed and weapons down by the floor where the desk is at like if she’s ready for a possible invasion. A potential Red Dawn situation you might say. But what do you expect coming from a nine-year-old that still has a truck full of imagination ready to pop out with weapons she can find from the black market and technology that pretty much rivals the CIA. Though I really want to imagine each pilot’s reactions to that dream sequence with Louise firing missiles across the sky whether the plane traveled north to New York or west to Philadelphia. I know it’s only a dream sequence but those pilots take the skies seriously. So I have to give the episode some brownie points for that sequence.

Too bad that the moment once arriving at the hardware store gets a reality check when Louise’s little dream sequence of having her dream bed gets shot down by store owner Mr. Kim over certain items that are not available for Louise to have. Mostly because...well, they’re impossible to get and unless you’re either a CIA agent or a seller from the black market, you’re pretty much out of luck. Just stick with your imagination once your new bed is set for completion by the end of the episode.

And so we begin what could be a very long night for the Belcher girls as Linda, Tina, and Louise are prepared to grab their tools and about to put this puppy together with Linda bringing out both a saw and power drill which looking at the drill that Linda was holding looks a bit out of date. A bit broken when it comes to the wires attached to the drill, but seems to be good to go when ready to attach the pieces together. Though...I’m just going to let put it out there when it comes to one little issue, Tina. You could see that Tina was acted a bit odd when the idea of the girls building a loft for Louise like if she probably don’t want to do it. I mean, whether if it's because there’s going to be fuck ups where it could result in an injury, thinking that Linda might abandon it like what she had gone through in the past, the tools being outdated and be close to being broken down, or maybe...and this is just a maybe, the girl wants to storm back to her desk and continue writing on her erotic friend fiction with her and Jimmy Jr playing bomb squad. I’m guessing the latter but I just wanna know. I just wanna know what was Tina’s little deal with her attitude as of late?

Of course, we enter montage mode with the construction of the loft as the girls already entering the building phase of the project with a YouTube video of how to build a loft playing in the background and not once getting distracted by whatever is recommended you in your feed. That’s pretty much YouTube in a nutshell and if I were to have a YouTube channel and this review was in video form, you would probably have video recommendations based on your watch or search history and whatever shit the algorithm likes to throw you. But other than that, you have the Belcher girls measuring each plywood and saw it into pieces to make sure it attaches to the other piles to build one of the parts of the loft bed. You also have Louise messing around with one of the tools with what appears to be a measuring tool. Linda doing the sawing despite accidentally being hit in the head for a bit caused by Louise and Tina carrying one of the plywood to cut it themselves. Surprising that when getting the supplies for the construction, hardhats, gloves, and face masks aren’t one of the supplies that they got for them to use. I mean construction is one of those jobs where a single fuck up could create some problems.

Going into the next scene with the construction still ongoing into the overnight hours with the bottom portion of the bed that carries the mattress still not yet completed and again, I may have some issues with what Tina is doing with her trying to push Linda and Louise to have a short break or call it a night so she can rush back to write on her journal. Like jeez Tina, calm down. I know you are anxious to head back to your desk and continue writing on your erotic friend fiction while hoping for Louise to not get to her desk to continue working on her project, but calm down goddamn it. But it looks like Linda and Louise aren’t going to sleep just yet because they still have a lot of energy into their system and could have the loft to be completed before the sun rises. I mean, what could possibly go wrong...if I weren’t to be a total dumbass for saying that.

Because it looks like Linda is going to be out of commission due to a sprained arm after tripping on a piece of plywood when not seeing where she’s going. Putting a dent into the girls’ project to give Louise a loft. Tina wants the project to hit the pause button and have Linda’s arm to be checked and get Bob to come over, but Linda ain’t a quitter. She treats her broken arm like she’s the Black Knight from Monty Phyton and the Holy Grail whenever he deals with damage when losing his limbs, “tis but a scratch.” She’s not going down without a fight but she’s going to be limited throughout the night and leave the dirty work for both Tina and Louise to do all of the work. And you do have to give some credit to Linda for what she’s doing when dealing with what appears to be a broken arm. She doesn’t want to repeat history where she was building something and then abandons it before she even started. She ain’t a quitter. She is not a freaking fracking quitter. She is battle-tested; even more battle-tested than the Tennessee Titans this season. Hell, when Bob called from the restaurant to see what’s going on with the loft construction, she lied to Bob that things are going well. No fighting, no issues, this close to describing how bad is her injury while trying not to create a panic. Boy, this hasn’t gone really well for Linda, Louise, and Tina since the start of the construction with Linda having a broken arm and now to make things worse...

You have Louise and Tina, while doing all of the work, ready to misuse the drill when trying to screw the nail into the pieces of wood together for the loft bed that is still incomplete from fearing that we could have ourselves an injury worse than Linda’s sprain or Louise ready to use the drill as a potential murder weapon onto Tina. That’s enough for Linda to just throw in the towel and call it a night. Wow, all that and you’re just gonna do that? I get that the script said that this would end up turning into a disaster and this would be the episode to potentially put an end to certain narratives. But with Linda hurt with a sprained arm, Tina and Louise getting into some conflicts during the building process, Tina acting impatient, Louise missing an hour to work on her project, and now getting sleepy-eyed with Linda and later Tina crying themselves to sleep while Louise had to suffer through the noise for crying and snoring in one in what appears to be the holiday weekend from Hell where you have to share a hotel room with one of your annoying relatives. However, the long-needed rest gets interrupted into the next scene to close out the main plot with Linda now waking up to hear the noise coming from the house, not to mention Louise and Tina absent from the bed, and lo and behold folks, we got ourselves a miracle...

Louise and Tina working together nonstop to get the loft bed project going and they even got the bed portion of the loft built...sorta. I mean, it’s a good attempt at the Belcher sisters’ part in making sure the show goes on during the overnight hours with Louise telling Linda that she and Tina can’t sleep. As for why they couldn’t sleep and decided to get back to doing the work for the bed is I’m guessing they can’t bear with the disappointment that’s been going on during the construction with earlier in the night turning into a disaster from the strained arm to tensions between the two sisters so I’m imagining during the process where they built the bed is where you would have Tina and Louise apologize for what happened earlier leading up to the construction of the loft regarding the use of the desk in Tina’s room by hugging their problems out and get on working that led to Linda waking up from her sleep. And I was worried that we’re about to follow the status quo where you have someone planning to do stuff, they do the stuff throughout the episode, and then have it abandoned and pretend that never happened. That didn’t happen. It didn’t follow the same old narratives you find in episodic series like this one. And I have to give my applause to this week’s episode for what they’re doing. Sure, things were going well for the Belcher girls in constructing the loft bed, despite that Tina was acting a bit pushy in trying to sneak her way out to continue writing her friend fiction before having the process to hit a snag with Linda’s sprained arm and Louise and Tina ready to turn on each other, but they hold it off. The narrative has somehow finally been put to bed for once, even if it’s only for one episode. So I have to tip my hat to the episode for that as we close out the main plot with Louise and Tina finally getting some sleep. Finally getting some long-needed rest after working on the bed and Linda telling them that they’ll get Teddy to do the finishing touches and for Louise to finish with her homework. Well, Louise has to finish with her homework first before we get to Teddy to do the rest of the work.

Which thankfully we get the process during the credits with the construction of the loft with each passing time as the credits roll of the loft being constructed with Teddy picking up the pieces that Louise and Tina made. Which speaking of Louise, she helped. She helped Teddy out in making with the loft rather than just waiting for the thing to be made much like with...well, almost everyone who called a contractor, plumber, or electrician to work around the house while you are busy fucking off and man, this episode has already exceeded my expectations and, again, I tip my hat for what they’re doing. Sure, there are some flaws hurdling in the episode’s way like speed bumps but it didn’t ruin the episode. It didn’t ruin the enjoyment out of it. The episode did improve from last week’s. Finally ending the episode with the loft bed now complete with Louise’s room underwent through some reorganization and also giving her more space like you don’t even see Louise’s room as a closet anymore and more like your usual room...well, a room without a view, but it still feels like your typical room with the loft now in place. Now, this is where some concerns are about to take place. Mostly on the loft bed that Louise finally got once this episode is over with. That is the question of whether the loft bed will be here to stay as the show progresses or we press the reset button and the old bed will be sticking around. Because knowing this show, continuity is pretty much as sparse as trying to find a gas station with a cheap price during the inflation issue for the upcoming holiday travel. Sure, you’ll get some callbacks and flashbacks in an attempt to tell the viewer, “Oh yeah, that happened.”

With this show, it’s pretty much them following the rules of sitcoms and other tropes you would find from episodic series where you’ll find some continuity though it’s pretty much going to be the equivalent of finding a blue ball in a ball pit filled with red balls. It’s there, it’s just it’s going to pop out whenever it gets mentioned from the previous episode. And I guess the same goes for certain items that were introduced in earlier seasons. Take the ice cream machine that Bob introduced in “Synchronized Swimming” from Season 2. It was undamaged throughout the show until Season 3 with “The Deepening” following the mechanical shark attack caused by the kids with a dent and stuck around to this day. The same goes for the bathroom that was redesigned by Felix to replace the old one since the events of “Ambergris” or getting rid of Louise’s old bike by having it run over by that juice truck driver that resulted in Louise trying to learn how to ride a bike and also seeing her riding with a new bike once we get to “The Gene Mile”. As for if we’ll get to see the loft bed after this episode? I’m sure the show will have that bed kept for good. And no, this isn’t the false hope in me talking regarding the loft bed that was built for Louise. I do think it's high time to have some changes for once, even if it’s a minor one like replacing the old and going for the new like with the loft bed that Louise now has. And especially once we get to the movie where we’re about to have bombshell after bombshell ready to be dropped, hopefully, whatever happened from the film once it hits the big screen, especially with stuff we don’t know about each character, could potentially affect the overarching canon of the series. I mean, not by a lot but a person can dream. So I hope the new bed gets to stick around as the series progresses and the main plot pretty much exceeded my expectations for the episode. By the way, you do know that Millie mimics Louise’s room by turning her own room into an exact copy, right? So imagine if Millie were to see the loft bed that Louise got...yeah, she would totally go for it and get one for her own to match exactly like Louise’s even though she got more space than hers. So yeah, think about that while hoping for the bed to be stayed put.

So while the Belcher girls are gearing up for building a new bed for Louise to sleep in, we hit the reverse button back a few moments in the episode by going back to the exact moment where the girls come into an agreement to build the loft themselves with the Belcher boys, being Bob and Gene, getting a visit from a one-off, named Shirley, and asks Bob if it’s okay with him to host a game night over at the restaurant as reveals to be a “game master” for a roleplaying board game called Mages and Monsters, which to no avail is the show’s version of Dungeons and Dragons. Which to be fair, I have never even played a single game of D&D. I mean, I heard of it but never exactly played it. It almost feels like I had an easier time in high school...well other than enjoying things like cartoons and anime, but you get the gist. Especially since D&D is becoming more popular than ever and...well, it’s been around the 1980s but I feel like it didn’t resurface back into the limelight until the last decade in the mid-to-late-2010s where it’s becoming mainstream. You have your game nights and online chatting. Hell, there’s even a show about it in the form of Critical Role if you heard or watched it. Again, I don’t know anything about D&D, so I apologize to anyone who is an avid player for offending...well almost everyone. So Shirley asks Bob if it’s okay with him to host a game night over at the restaurant, just for one night as it looks like she’s going through an anxious state because she wants things to go as planned since all of the responsibility as the “game master” is all on her. The closest you would get to a potential anxiety attack from Shirley. That is enough for Bob and Gene to accept her invitation in having game night here at the restaurant but it would require the two boys to cater for the group once the night hits.

Speaking of which, we transition to the big night as the Belcher girls begin constructing on the bed is where you have Shirley assembling her group and ready to get the game rolling with everyone getting their game face on with the players writing down some stuff on paper, presumably for their characters that they’ll be playing. Again, I don’t know anything about D&D, so don’t call me out on this, aight! Of course, since the game night is being held at the restaurant, there has to be some catering with Bob pulling out his notebook for each of the players’ order, though not one person isn’t interested in ordering...well except for Shirley who went in to order the burger of the day. And when looking at the synopsis for the episode regarding the subplot, I thought to myself that this would have Gene and Bob do something. I mean sure, they’re pretty much catering since they’re hosting the game night, but I was hoping for more in the line of either of those two trying the game out for once. You know, try out new things to pass the time. Sure, they’ll probably not going to get a hang of it at first, but hey, it would be nice for once to at least give Bob and Gene some leverage. Something to do for the subplot to pass the time while the girls are busy building the loft. Not knowing that during that time is where Linda is about to suffer through a sprained arm during the construction of the bed. But at least give Bob and Gene to do something other than just sitting around and doing nothing.

Though there’s one role that Bob has to do something for the episode and that is being the supportive role when both he and Gene noticed that the game night is slowly turning into a disaster with how the storytelling is going with one of the moments of the game have the players turning into goblins when opening up a chest. Which almost feels like something where you noticed something might be off whenever you watch shows like Supernatural or Doctor Who or any of the live-action shows that you saw during your downtime where there has to be some random bullshit popping out because why not. Speaking of Doctor Who, this week’s episode was pretty much a confusing cluster-flux with multiple plotlines in one episode. But despite all of that, Shirley is slowly losing some people’s attention with her anxiety returning to bite her and went over to Bob on what to do to make sure she doesn’t lose the crowd. It’s already turning into a disaster and doesn’t even know what to do next while hoping that the game night doesn’t end in a disastrous way possible and could potentially lose her role as “game master.” And yeah, I could see why. Being in charge of something takes huge responsibility to make sure you don’t lose your target audience. Because the last thing that Shirley need is for the night to be cut short and lose her crowd due to her having poor storytelling skills like if you’re back in English class and you have to write an essay that goes towards your grade for the semester and you don’t know what the fuck to do when trying to produce something to write onto the paper, or rather on a Word document.  That is pretty much what is going on with Shirley when losing her group’s attention and she needs more time to at least pull something out of her magician’s hat to get the attention back by requesting Bob to go into overtime just as he alerted the group that the restaurant is about to close for the night.

Of course, Gene doesn’t want the place to close down because he somehow gets interested in the board game but at the time, slowly getting bored and tired and that’s not him missing his bedtime doing the talk to have the Gene Bean feeling all tuckered. I don’t know why Gene would want to listen or see what’s going on with the game but I guess since he has nothing to do for the whole night rather than helping Linda, Tina, and Louise to build the bed but to listen through that just as he is ready to go to sleep next to the table where the game is. I mean, it’s no RoboWizard Quest but I won’t be surprised if Gene were to listen through in his sleep and the next time he and Alex play a round is where he would give some minor tweaks to it. Oh god, imagine if Wagstaff were to have a D&D club; that would be hilarious.

But Gene isn’t the only one who is failing at the try not to sleep challenge because it looks like Bob as well is taking a nappy nap and seven episodes. It took seven episodes to have our first musical number of the season where you have Bob, hoping for the Gandalf approach when dressed up as a wizard, wandering through a forest filled with produce with a giant pea in a pod and trees that carried what appeared to be giant pairs of grapes before abruptly waking up by Gene. And look, I’ve been somewhat ripping on the show when it comes to its musical numbers as of late. Since last season ever since...well...that infamous controversial episode regarding the car crash with the recent being the one episode where Bob sang about an online cucumber. With that episode, I feel like it shouldn’t even be there. And while it’s somewhat better than that damn responsibility song that I’m surprised that the US government didn’t use that as a torture device to get some intel. But with this week’s episode regarding this musical number, I’ll let this one slide. I mean, it’s short but it’s not bad. I’d say tolerable at best. The visuals are good, not going to lie. Again, I’ll let that one slide. It’s tolerable at best. But we still have a long way to go for the current season.

So Gene wakes Bob up and noticed that the game is still going on but not as long as that tie between the Lions and Steelers earlier this week with the game now coming to a close with the final roll of a few dice onto the board is enough for the game to end with the players’ characters turning back into humans. Which almost feels like something coming out from a piece of fanfiction than something from the actual game. Although knowing the internet, it’s possible to find some D&D fanfiction. Though don’t take it from me. The game comes to an end in what is really a very long and stressful night for Shirley as the “game master” with her group wanting to go back to the same old, same old the next time around. Causing Bob to intervene and decides to give Shirley’s group a piece of his mind and say to them that she worked her butt off in attempting to shake the game up for just one night, even if they showcased that they’re not keen on the idea of Shirley mixing things up with the board game because she didn’t want to follow the script. But Bob did show during those countless hours of him and Gene spectating that the players, while yes, they seem to hate the idea of the rules being flip-flopped, they did seem concentrated in what is pretty much a challenging session to the point where they had to chew on straws for each passing time during the game. Okay, I’m feeling to lose all of y’all here, so I’ll get this out of the way: give Shirley credit. She knows what she’s doing. I know you don’t like change, but you don’t seem to mind as the night progresses. So this is pretty much Bob standing up for Shirley in what she is doing with making some minor tweaks to the game and it looks like the players of the game may have to give her a proper thanks and maybe an apology for hating on the small change before we wrap up the episode with him telling both Shirley and the group to pay up because she did ask Bob to host the game night. As well as catering as the game progresses. Again, money is tight and he really needs it. Especially now that we’re entering the holiday season.

Reaction/Thoughts:

So all and all, what do I think about this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers? Well, there were some concerns at first for this episode and thinking that we would be following the same old narratives with the main plot of the episode regarding the loft bed. Thinking that they’ll be building the bed, getting into some trouble during the process which would result in some tensions, they make up, and then straight up abandon it. It didn’t and man, oh man it has exceeded some expectations once the episode first aired earlier in the week. Honestly, this was an enjoyable episode and sure, there are some flaws and certain issues to the state coming from both plots in the episode, but it wasn’t enough to downplay the whole experience from start to finish. And I have to give some credit where credit is due to the cast and crew with what they’re doing with the episode.

The main plot is what took me by surprise when it comes to the direction it’s taking. And again, I was worried that it would be following the same old narratives that most sitcoms would follow since the beginning of time, but it didn’t. This was the enjoyable one of the two plots with the Belcher girls working on the loft bed for Louise to have and I do think that it was high time for Louise to get some additional space and all it all took is a dinosaur project, fighting over the rights of using the desk, and Linda going through old photos and mentions that she never finished something that she just started. Which I have to give this season some credit so far in handing out some stuff regarding Linda like it’s a goddamn bargain sale. And I do hope we can continue with that. Give some leverage to the characters with the countdown to the movie begins to tick as May of 2022 draws near. Tina, I had some issues during the construction with her being somewhat pushy in my opinion with her wanting to press the pause button so she can get back to writing on her erotic friend fiction in playing bomb squad with Jimmy Jr enough to cause some tensions between her and Louise. But besides all that, the main plot pretty much blew me out of the waters when it comes to playing with expectations, and hopefully, the new bed gets to be a permanent thing on the show than going back to the old. By the way, I heard that we might be going out of order when it comes to the production code for next week’s episode, so if you see Louise’s old bed if we were to get to see Louise’s room, that’s all on the production order. That’s pretty much what it’s going to be and the last thing I need is fans going angry mob mode on the cast and crew.

The subplot to the episode...I guess there should be some work but it’s not a bad thing to look over with Bob and Gene hosting a game night that turned into a disaster but somewhat averted by the time the night came to an end. I do kinda wish that Bob and/or Gene get to do something other than just being there spectating and catering to the group. Sure, Bob is pretty much there as a support service for when Shirley is dealing with her anxiety over fears of her group hating with what she is doing with the rules and storytelling of the game, but still, kinda wish they get to do something other than watching over things. And yeah...the musical number in the show...this one I’ll give it a pass. It’s not bad and I’m not saying on whether or not it should belong in the episode, but I’d say it’s tolerable at best when Bob passed out due to the spectating and not getting to do anything. But besides all that, I do have to give some brownie points for Bob for at least doing on what’s he doing whether being trying to serve the gamers some stuff to make some bucks or trying to ease Shirley’s anxiety. Still think he or Gene needs to do something like at least try the game out for once.

So final thoughts, I had some concerns when the press release came out but then it exceeded expectations once the episode aired. Out of the two plots that I enjoyed from this episode, I may have to tip my hat to the main plot because that alone blew my expectations out of the water and even if there’s some flaws and also some issues along the way, it didn’t ruin my enjoyment. Which I liked and again, I do hope that the bed will be a permanent thing despite that again, next week’s episode is where we might be going out of order when it comes to the production order. The subplot was alright, just kinda wish that Bob and Gene get to do something more during that. But other than that, this was a good episode and I see that everyone was going at 8 or 9 in the 10-scale for the rankings. But for Moi, in my opinion, I’ll give “Loft in Bedslation”...

A 7 out of 10. But that’s pretty much my opinion and now I wanna hear you guys and gals out about this week’s episode. Do you like it? Do you hate it? Will we get more of Linda’s past in future episodes? Will Louise’s new bed be a permanent thing? Would you want to play a D&D game with a different storyline than the usual like what we saw in the episode? Let’s discuss this in the comments below along with your mini-review of the episode. And of course, since we’re in November, Thanksgiving is right around the corner with a Thanksgiving episode coming up this upcoming Sunday with the Belchers for this year’s special going to do some volunteer work over at the nursing home in the eighth episode of Season 12 in “Stuck in the Kitchen With You”, set to premiere on November 21.
