Bob's Burgers Season 11, Episode 13 Review - The Not-so Great Mammoth Lie Charade of 2021 | yahoo201027's Bob's Burgers Reviews

We’re in March, folks. First official week of the third month of the year. And nearing the anniversary of when everything went to shit with the pandemic. Wow, a freaking year since our daily lives went down the toilet and never to return, and maybe this year could possibly be the light at the end of a very, very long tunnel and possibly return to normalcy...too bad Texas and Mississippi didn’t read the memo and decided to just throw stuff away. Unless you want this shit to continue until around 2023? Don’t do this. And if you think that it would be a good March than last year and ready to go for another title run for the championship for a trophy virtual trophy, you think that the Bob’s Burgers fandom, after two months of bad stuff happened from last year transcending into this year like a badly scripted sequel...

Apparently, a certain voice actor “allegedly” think that it’s a good fucking idea to storm a building on a cold, cloudy day in the middle of the pandemic with a very loud crowd...that finding out that crowd is full of Trump supporters who had fallen into the QAnon bubble and that building that they stormed is the fucking Capitol and trying to overthrow democracy. Just because their guy can’t take the “L” after an election that they think it’s stolen, but it’s not. And I guess that’s another one in the championship curse bingo card.

But hey, remember the wheelie mammoth from Season 9 that the Belcher kids and their friends won it as a consolation prize over the dune buggy? Yeah, it’s back in this week’s episode and finally find out whatever what happened to the giant plushie on wheels and why both Bob and Linda have to prevent heartbreak to the kids over how and why they got rid of the giant toy that Louise won two seasons ago while visiting the flea market in my spoilerific review of the thirteenth episode of Season 11, titled “An Incon-wheelie-ent Truth”.

Let’s talk about sequels in the entertainment industry. Each form of industry, whether being movies, TV shows, or book series, in most things went off to be one-offs. As in, most of the stuff that you read, watched, or listened to are mostly stand-alone and don’t need a sequel to continue on with the creator of that medium feeling just fine the way it is. However, there’s some in the entertainment where a standalone was so good, whether from the fans or the executives for whatever reason, that there has to be a second part in the same serialization, but skeptics have some concerns on where it would be going. Honestly, I don’t blame them. Most of it was mostly due to the hype that was built up that it could be the benefactor of what lead to the downfall. That and also the writing, the direction, the execution, and so on in hopes for lightning to strike twice.

The same goes for each episode in shows because...well, continuity. Something that you don’t see every day when it comes to sitcoms, most importantly, animated sitcoms. And Bob’s Burgers is no exception, whether being a return of a character that we haven’t seen in a long time or a plot point from one episode in the previous season that hasn’t been touched since, finally been answered for the next one. Most examples being “Beefsquatch” in Season 2 and “Family Fracas” in Season 3 when it comes to continuity and bringing some characters, like Chuck and Pam, to come back. Or with Josh in Season 3 in both “Lindapendent Woman” and again in “Two for Tina”. But of course, the one where people have been asking questions on forums and other sites that they hope one day can finally be answered is, of course, the wheelie mammoth from Season 9. And it looks like this week’s episode can hopefully put this sucker to bed. The keyword is “hopefully”. Yeah, I can imagine see the look on y’all’s faces and think that something bad happened. So, we might as well get this out of the way to begin a...very long and interesting take on the episode. This is “An Incon-wheelie-ent Truth”.

The episode begins with the family arriving at the flea market and still in their coats...cue the “where the hell does this episode set in” comments much a grin of last week’s episode with the photoshoot. Though it is early March, where some parts of the country where it’s still cold out that jackets are required. So...there’s that when it comes to the timeframe of the episode with the setting and all. Linda gives the kids money for them to buy at least one item they could get in the market...well anything that costs less than the money that they got so they don’t overspend and require any of the two adults to step in and help out.

Of course, we have to bring in Gayle into the episode and you’re probably going to say, “Oh, here he goes again. Him shitting on Gayle.” Yeah...no. This isn’t me shitting on Gayle, so stop. Yeah, so the episode didn’t just put Gayle into the episode because...they have to do it for no reason. Oh no, something is about to happen once we get to the later part of the episode regarding the situation that is about to take place. But for now, Gayle calls Linda over a tangerine and questions if it’s dangerous to eat with a carrot...mostly because they’re orange. And...is she really planning on eating something with the carrot? Like the carrot that Mr. Jim Business licked when walking about the counter before jumping off during the phone call? God, she...uh...really needs some help. Mentally, sure. But mostly with how the crew is handling her character as a whole. Bob and Linda make their way into the flea market and walk about for a few stations of the general area, only to end up finding something that is long believed to be extinct.

It’s the return of the wheelie mammoth. The giant stuffed animal on roller skates that Louise, along with Tina, Gene, Zeke, Jimmy Jr, Darryl, Andy, and Ollie, won as a consolation prize against Fischoeder after failing to get the dune buggy following the heist that they pulled...that somehow disappeared after the events of the episode is now in one of the vending stations of the flea market that has Bob and Linda shook. And we found out that Bob and Linda accidentally gave it away when thinking that the kids stopped playing with it. So, let’s get to the backstory to the newbies who don’t even know what’s so important with the wheelie mammoth. And it all began...in the Fall of 2018.

In the Season 9 episode, titled “The Taking of Funtime One Two Three”, Louise had set her eyes on a certain prize which was the original target item for that episode in the form of the dune buggy, but unable to get due to...well...bullshit. Lots and lots of bullshit. Hoping to get the prized vehicle, Louise, along with Gene and Tina, form a little alliance with Mr. Fischoeder to pull a heist to earn the dune buggy from Family Funtime. Which of course, they can’t do it alone and grab the help of their friends, being Jimmy Jr, Zeke, Darryl, Andy, and Ollie. Get some practice for the big day, know the ground rules in not getting caught, and win the buggy for good...too bad that Louise didn’t read the memo when she tried to do it for herself, which landed herself to be banned from the place. Putting a dent into the whole heist, except...not really. Because when Tina, Gene, Jimmy Jr, Zeke, Darryl, Andy, and Ollie were all caught red-handed and Fischoeder reveals to be the mastermind who laid out the mousetrap and making things even harder for them to get the buggy, surprise! Louise enters the room, despite being banned from the arcade, in a calm manner and reveals that when she was getting her picture taken for the ban wall, she noticed that Fischoeder is buddy-buddy with the executives of the arcade and alerts her friends that there’s no way they’re going to get the dune buggy with Fischoeder being the one who keeps on putting obstacles on their route to the vehicle. Thus, leads Louise to win something over at the Wharf. Something that Fischoeder had his eyes on like with Louise had hers with the buggy...that something being the wheelie mammoth. The wheelie mammoth that Louise won, thanks in part to Fischoeder fallen into the trap himself, and the giant stuffed animal on roller skates have fallen into the possession of the Belcher kids...or it was until we find out about what happened since the end of that episode.

Because after the events of “The Taking of Funtime One Two Three” took place, apparently there’s no room to store the giant stuffed animal that Louise won and like Bob and Linda said, thinking that the kids may have stopped playing with it with each of the members of the family having issues when it comes to putting away the giant mammoth on wheels, either being in the living room, the kitchen, the hallway, and in the bathroom. Like...is the option of putting it in the basement not there? Pretty sure the basement would’ve been the safe bet to put away the wheelie mammoth. Hell, a storage unit would’ve been a useful thing to do but apparently, you have to rent it in order to put away the thing. That and also the whole thing with the kids. But how it even ended up in the flea market? Well...the thing was outside and didn’t even notice the truck coming in and picking the thing up. Bob and Linda were not bright when it comes to the whole issue with the wheelie mammoth and didn’t even notice that the mammoth was gone until just now to realize that it’s no longer there. Having no choice but to break the news to the kids. But would let that slide because...well, they’re kids. They think that playing with the mammoth would be a one-time thing and do something else the next day. Pretty much sums up internet trends these days where you one thing and then go do the other and let the old one die out. That’s what Bob and Linda were gunning for with the Belcher kids...except that they’re the Belcher kids. They’re different from the other kids that made out the almost 8 billion people all across the planet.

That leads to the breakfast table with Louise, Gene, and Tina asking their parents on where they put the wheelie mammoth so they can play with it, mostly with the fire escape, which...really don’t want to know why but I feel like it could possibly resulting in them playing what stunt doubles would do. And that’s where Bob and Linda, rather than lie their way to escape, they told about what happened to the mammoth and reveals that they donated the stuffed animal, which upsets the three kids. And it took freaking months to now find out about it. Yeah, months?! Months since the events of that episode from Season 9 and now it’s a good time to bring it up?! At this point, you might as well say that time is pretty much an illusion in the Bouchard-verse. The Belcher kids are not happy over what Bob and Linda did with the wheelie mammoth, thus leaving the two adults to lie their way out of the argument by telling the three kids that it was donated to the roller rink out of town to go skate with orphans. And the three Belcher kids bought the lie. They bought the lie made by their parents with Bob and Linda having a sigh of relief and finally go on their day and let that whole mess be nothing more than a bad, bad memory...until now over at the flea market.

Now in panic mode, Bob and Linda have to think of a way to prevent the kids from finding out about the wheelie mammoth over at the station that they’re at. Feeling like they’re out of options in preventing each of their kids to find out that the mammoth was not donated and ended up at the flea market. Sure, they could say that it’s probably another wheelie mammoth like that one because it is a stuffed animal, pretty sure they made like dozens of these things. That would’ve been a decent choice to not have their offspring being mad at them for lying. But other than that, they’re out of options to prevent Louise, Tina, and Gene to see the mammoth on display. Not knowing that...

Tina is about to meet up with her parents after buying her end of the bargain in getting a horse figure, remember when she was all about horses? Not just boys? Yeah...way to tone that shit down, huh? Tina was about to meet with her parents with the horse figure, alarming to both Bob and Linda now that they found about what happened to the wheelie mammoth, and must find a way to prevent her from being the first to break through Bob and Linda’s lie about what happened. With Linda making the first move by...carrying Tina away from the area and into the western edge of the flea market before meeting with Gene and Louise over at the toy car station and telling them that it’s time to head on home for the day, despite that the kids still got enough money for them to buy. Well...Gene and Louise because they haven’t spent theirs with Tina only have $1.50 left in the bank over her spending on the horse figure with Louise now beginning to think that something is up with her parents like they seen a ghost. Yeah, they saw something alright. And pretty sure it’s not a ghost. But it is something that is haunting them since the day began.

As Linda distracts the kids with a nearby weapon station. Yeah, there’s a station that has weapons on sale and has the kids looking at it and maybe planning on buying it. What is this? An episode of South Park? Sure, there aren’t some of your usual ninja tools like shuriken or kunai but sure, let the kids have a play with a weapon station that could possibly poke their eye out or lose a limb or two. As Linda distracts the kids with the knife table, you have Bob ready to head out and do something to prevent the kids from finding out about the wheelie mammoth...

By heading back to the station where he and Linda first found the mammoth and wants to buy it from the owner of the shop. And you think that in your usual flea market, the price would be like at the range from a dollar to...less than at least $50 unless it’s a car or computer parts, well the mammoth that Bob was planning on buying cost $100. $100 for the giant stuffed animal. Something that Bob can’t possibly afford and even he said it himself, can’t afford that shit...which is odd because you normally have like the hundred dollar bills for like emergency use or whatever, so the fact saying...I can’t tell if this pretty haunting to say the least. Leaving Bob at a standstill and must think of something to lower the price. Fucker needs to know how to hustle to get that mammoth.

And while Bob is trying to do that, here comes another phone call from Gayle as the kids continue to look over at the weapons in Linda’s request, though surprising that no one even bothered calling her out for letting the kids play with actual weapons. Linda gets the call from Gayle...who then leaves her hanging for a phone call with Bob about the mammoth situation. Do the writers hate Gayle? Why do I get the feeling that this could be their way to shit on her. Beginning to think that might be the case but...eh. Linda gets a call from Bob about his end of the whole preventing kids from the mammoth issue regarding the price he has to pay in order to get the mammoth and telling her that they can’t afford to get the mammoth back to the Belchers’ hand and want Linda to come over and try to negotiate to lower the price. Not knowing that Louise is starting to get suspicious over what’s going on with Bob and Linda, not knowing that it has something to do with the wheelie mammoth but the time for the whole lie about the whereabouts...the wall is starting to crack. The wall of lies is starting to crack.

Bob tries his hardest in trying to negotiate to lower the price to get the mammoth to go down below $100 by pretending to be someone he’s not, only for that to fall flat on its face. And even brought up burgers on the house. And I mean, who wouldn’t want to turn that offer down, even if it’s for something like keeping a little white lie from the kids from being mad at them like a free round of burgers and not paying a single buck. That enough for Bob to finally got the mammoth into his hands and calling Linda the good news about the progress of the whole situation...only for Louise, Tina, and Gene to eavesdrop on the call and found out about the wheelie mammoth situation and also finding out that they’d been lied to all this time. And...there goes the wall of lies. It’s now reduced to rubble.

Bob pushes the wheelie mammoth to the corner of the intersection and places a note attached to it as he rejoins Linda and the kids with the kids...well, heard about what happened and are now upset over what happened with the mammoth and decided to somewhat retaliate with Louise using that doll that she bought with her money as an allegory of what happened with the mammoth. Pretty much making a trip back home a very long one with the idea of having their kids scolding towards their parents over what happened. You think that this should be Bob and Linda’s time to make things up with them and at least try to make things right with them to let this whole issue be nothing more than a memory for the second half of the episode?  That would’ve been the way to go. Kinda like with what happened in “Bob Belcher and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Kids” when the kids had to go through that after coming out clean of accidentally burning the kitchen. That hast to be it, right?

Nope, the cycle of lies continues. You thought that once the lie was revealed, Bob and Linda have to make things up with the kids over the whole mammoth issue? Nope. Bob and Linda have to continue the lie despite the kids already finding out overhearing Linda’s phone call with Bob about the wheelie mammoth by having her staying with the giant stuffed animal and calling Gayle for her aide and take the thing to the roller rink down in Bog Harbor with Bob now being the distractor by taking the kids to that same roller rink, hopefully after Linda and Gayle do the dirty deed and dropping the mammoth off at the roller rink. You know, I wanna say this when I reach the reaction/thoughts section of the review, but I might as well say right now, the lies ruined the episode. The whole lie charade with what happened to the mammoth downplayed the episode. I mean, with one lie, that’s fine, mostly in the first half, because you would have set up Bob and Linda’s attempt of trying to win back their kids’ trust after the whole situation that fell flat onto its face in the second half. But nope, you gotta keep the lie going. Keeping the lie alive. Jesus Christ, even Donald Trump can lie better than you two and the fucker twist his words like a snake that came out of nuclear waste being dumped to the ground.

Linda finally got her ride with Gayle...in a turtleneck that happened to be pants...turtleneck as pants. I’m now beginning to sense why southern states like Texas and Mississippi want to lift all Covid-19 restrictions. That was pretty much peak quarantine throughout the early months of last year with the lockdowns. Becoming like Gayle. And pretend that whole shit with the power grid and water supply following the deep freeze back in February was nothing more than a fuck you. While that is happening, Bob takes the kids out of town to the roller rink in another town to prove that they’re not lying, despite that the kids already knew what’s up and pissed at them for what they did to their beloved wheelie mammoth, but that won’t stop Bob to make sure the lie lives on...and hoping for Linda to do her side of the bargain in beating him first in dropping the mammoth off over at the roller rink.

Despite that the lie almost fell flat for the second time with Linda and Gayle using the same road as Bob and the kids and driving on by with Gayle somewhat yells through her car and into his like something you see in Anime where you have two or more characters in the battlefield despite that you have one character, the enemy of the fight, being far away from the scene, either over at the cliff or high in the sky a la Dragon Ball Z. Have Bob to distract the kids by telling them to look over to the right side of the road and not look over at Gayle’s car with the mammoth taking all of the space of the backseat. And that was after getting a quick pit stop over at the nearest ice cream shop...aka a nearby gas station...possibly a Racetrac gas station. No wait, they’re in New Jersey...the nearest Wawa.

Linda and Gayle finally arrived at the roller rink in Bog Harbor with the wheelie mammoth and gets the manager of the building to donate the wheelie mammoth to the place...mostly for him to fall into the whole situation and have it be on display as the mascot and have the kids who are currently skating in the rink as the orphans. That enough for the manager of the roller rink to finally be on board...

Thus, we see Bob and the kids entering the rink and sees the wheelie mammoth on the rink with the kids skating along with it. Finally have the Belcher kids, who found out about all of this bullshit since the second act when eavesdropping on Linda’s call with Bob over the whole pricing issue with the mammoth with Louise being the first to somewhat see through this bull-bull after months of not being in the house ever since she won it as a consolation prize in Season 9, just accepts that aren’t lying despite the suspicion all throughout the day and now that they have seen it, it looks like things might be going in favor of both Bob and Linda after al...

Of course, the lie won’t stick the landing at any given time. Bob and Linda almost had the game-winning goal in the final seconds of the game with only a point or two behind the opposing team and Linda fumbled. So after the kids accept the lie to be true when witnessing the wheelie mammoth skating around with the kids on the rink, Linda decided to be “Miss Big Mouth” over the whole lying thing. Which ending up pissing off Gayle over the fact that she had a pet fish in her childhood that her parents, both her and her parents, lie to her over what happened to that fish, in which Gayle thinks that it’s an immortal being and all. Must a grin to the usual lie of the pet went to a farm upstate...which happened to be heaven...unless you’re one of those people in the religious right that think that animals don’t deserve to be in the clouds. Seriously, where in the bible does it say that? That angered Gayle after being lied to for decades. Decades! You thought the Belcher kids had it bad with the lie that was chained onto the family for months with the mammoth. Oh no, Gayle had it worse. And I get why because...let’s face it, Gayle’s a mess. She is a mess. But the fact that they kept that from her for decades until now to bring it up after successfully lied to the kids about the whole wheelie mammoth issue, yeah...she ain’t having it. And how would Gayle retaliate after the whole bombshell to...well, pretty much didn’t even bother rivaling the bombshells from the Harry and Meghan interview...how does Gayle get Linda back in return?

By ending the lying issue that both her (Linda) and Bob had created with the wheelie mammoth by taking it away from the rink and telling her nieces and nephew that they fucked them over for months over them being that dangerously stupid over the whereabouts and status of the mammoth and that whole “mammoth being donated to the roller rink in another town” thing was nothing more than a big fat lie. Remember kids, hold your parents accountable for lying like they're politicians. Also, remember that the person who stopped the cycle of lies wasn’t either the kids or Bob or Linda...it’s Gayle. An episode with her that have a low rated score last year started the pandemic and it looks like an episode with her that might have a low rating on the scoreboard, results may vary, could possibly end the pandemic. Think about it. I think we cracked the code.

Louise, Gene, and Tina now felt betrayed over what their parents had done over the whole wheelie mammoth issue that they’d kept hidden for months until Gayle comes in and tore it down and would say have that idea come into place but knowing that it’s the final 5 minutes of the episode, might as well throw that into the trash now. Thanks for ruining that assumption. Now that the lie is finally broken and looking like they’re back to square one in having issues in storing the wheelie mammoth, Bob and Linda are now forced into taking the giant stuffed animal back into their hands, only for the manager of the rink refusing to hand it over, despite that the whole charade is over with, thanks to Gayle, and have to fight over it on who gets the rights of the giant stuffed animal that was once extinct until...

You have the kids decided to say that the mammoth should stay in the rink. After all of that. All of this bullshit that engulfed the episode into flames throughout the whole day after being kept in the dark over the whole wheelie mammoth issue that been missing for months ever since winning it from Fischoeder two seasons ago...now decided to say that they should give it away. Am I against the idea? No, I don’t think so. Sure, they’re kids, not monsters. While they can have their cake, they can’t possibly eat it too when it comes to the wheelie mammoth. Am I against the idea of that? No. Am I against how it was handled after countless lies after lies after lies and in the most rushed and confusing manner possible? Possibly so. But yeah, rather than taking the wheelie mammoth back to their house, Louise, Tina, and Gene decided to just let the mammoth stay at the rink and think that the mammoth may have found its new home over at the rink. And the kids in the rink seem to be enjoying it, so might as well keep the mammoth in another town, so it looks like the wheelie mammoth will be staying at its permanent home in Bog Harbor and serving it as its mascot. Thus, ending the episode with the Belchers having one last fun with the prized mammoth that will no longer be living in the household, so enjoying playing with it for the last time, Belchers. Because we won’t be seeing it for a long, long time after this...very much a trash heap of an episode.

Reaction/Thoughts:

So all and all, what do I think about this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers? Okay, what do I have to say about this episode? After witnessing an episode where it feels like you’re driving in the middle of the road during a thunderstorm out on the highway with no street lights and don’t even know where this is going. I guess you could say that this is pretty much my take on the episode.

I've seen a lot of people giving this episode a lot of praise in the most positive take despite the massive amounts of flaws that were mixed into the episode. I’m not calling these people stupid. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. And what I said with the breakdown of the episode is my opinion. If you agree with what I said about the episode, that’s fine. If you don’t, that’s fine as well. And what I said about the episode is...yeah, there were a lot of problems and had some trouble trying to understand. Gave it a rewatch. Wrote down the notes/outlines leading up to the making of this episode and...wow, this is debris spilling at its finest.

It’s mostly on the whole lying thing when it comes to Bob and Linda trying to keep the lie alive when finding the wheelie mammoth over at the flea market and trying to prevent the kids from finding out. That lie that played out throughout the episode pretty much downplayed the whole thing. And you think that Bob and Linda, after the lie was revealed, or rather, the walls ready to break with Louise being the first to think that something is up with her parents regarding the mammoth, say if they found out early at the end of the first half of the episode. You would’ve seen both Bob and Linda do a little apology tour in trying to win their kids’ trust back following what happened. That would’ve been the decent case for this episode over what happened. But instead, the lie had to continue on all the way to the final minutes of the episode where Gayle have to end it over finding out something that was kept from her for decades. But in my opinion, the countless lies may have downplayed the episode altogether that you could be having trouble trying to at least find a positive or two about it. Speaking of positives...

The return of the wheelie mammoth. A lot of people were questioning ever since Season 9 on what happened to the giant stuffed animal since then, now that it’s been over two years since we last saw it and now we got it. I mean, we did get our answer on what happened to it though...eh...that may be because of what Linda and Bob did in not looking over what’s going on outside when it was being picked up by a donation truck, only to be seen later over at the flea market. At least we got some continuity in what is pretty much a sequel of the episode, but much like most sequels, this one did not somewhat stick the landing.

And I got to give props to Gayle in this episode. Because at first, I thought she was only there for...well, just there because the writers or directors say so with her calling Linda numerous times during the visit to the flea market and dealing with the wheelie mammoth issue to prevent the kids from finding out. I thought they were going to waste her in the episode with the phone calls...until she somewhat saved the episode in calling Bob and Linda out on their bullshit over the wheelie mammoth to the kids. And that was after finding out that her pet fish died and was kept by her parents. So again, after countless lies that were thrown onto the episode, Gayle did somewhat of a favor for everyone and just saved the episode, one turtleneck sweatpants at a time.

So final thoughts, while it was nice to see the wheelie mammoth again after a two-season absence and finally got some answers on what happened to the giant stuffed animal on wheels. Not to mention having Gayle to do some justice for once in saving the episode in ending the cycle of lies...the whole lying charade regarding the wheelie mammoth is what downplayed the entire episode. Ultra-predictable because we all knew that the kids were going to find out because they’re not just every kid who just enjoy the toy one day and then stopped playing with it the next. The Belcher kids don’t roll like that. Not to mention how rushed it went with the episode and how clumsily handled it when it comes to the execution. So I’ll give “An Incon-wheelie-ent Truth”...and don’t know if this might come with an asterisk when it comes to the final rating...

I may have to give it a 5 out of 10. Though torn between giving this episode a 4 out of 10 or a 6 out of 10. Again, might come with an asterisk on this one, so I may have to give it a 5* out of 10 as the final rating of the episode. But that’s my opinion and now I wanna hear yours. Tell me what you think about this week’s episode? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Do you think this episode would’ve been handled better or fine the way it is? Are you glad that the wheelie mammoth is back? And will you be willing to wear your turtleneck shirt as pants? All that and your mini-review in the comments down below. Hopefully, next week’s episode is better than this one with Gene being home alone as the rest of the family is out doing their own thing in the fourteenth episode of Season 11, “Mr. Lonely Farts”.
